This is what I have here, and like this I can't get it to fit. What should I break?

Oh looks like they're already separate. I was talking about the little one (2 pin). How many squares do the connectors on your card have? The clips should be facing away from the gfx fans when you plug it in.

Edit: I just had a quick look at your previous posts. Is your card the Asus Strix 970 with a single 8 pin slot? You need to connect a 6pin & small 2 pin cable to the card.

Bottom left square of the cable should go into the bottom right square of the card if you're looking at it from above (like in the pic).

The squares and rounded connectors are in different places. My 7970 plugs just fine.

So I just got my PC from DHL which they transported from Albania to England and it doesn't work. HDD cages are all broken, CPU cooler is ruined, some cables were torn apart. I'll probably get a refund (not 100% sure) but in the meantime I need some parts as fast as possible. What motherboard would you guys suggest for a small case? I'll keep the 2600k so what's a good LGA1155 small motherboard? I'm tired of transporting my huge PC so I really need a small one and I have no idea what motherboards are good for LGA 1155 that are small.

Does anyone have experience with nvidia surround? I picked up a third monitor for cheap for another build, and I'm trying to make it run.

Monitors are all different, but share size (22"), resolution (1680x1050), aspect ratio of course and refresh rate (two 60hz and one 120hz).

I'm setting them all to 60hz yet still nvidia control panel say all monitors should have at least one common timing.

The issue seems to be my 120hz monitor (since enabling surroun with just the other two works well).

Build a MiniITX machine, if you can get your hands on an Asus P8Z77I Deluxe that would be the best option. They seem hard to come by in the UK though.

Case would be Fractal Node 304, Silverstone RVZ01 or Coolersmaster Elite 130.

Lets build this bad boy. Never assembled one myself
Boot or fry

Last month I put together my first PC. Took me around 3 hours, few times I froze up got scarred stress out, but I pull through and it was a very rewarding experience seeing it boot up for the first time.

I finished my build in like 4.5hours. Probably 1 hour of it was me tryibg to find better routes for my wires lol. Heck, up until now im still not done on my cable management and i built my rig also a month ago. When i booted up the first time and nothing exploded, burnt or got fried i was elated.

I had to cut a bit of plastic that wouldn't let the two pin cable connect. I got it now and it's working flawlessly. It didn't make sense to me that I had to connect some other cable than the labeled PCI-Express connector, which was what I was using with my 7970. Well, thank you a lot for the help!

What, mate?

That's actually NVIDIA looking out for you. They don't want you to go back to the 60Hz slums. Drivers doing you a favor.

The +2 connectors are always on the right side (as in when you are plugging it in with the card in front of you), with the clips on the bottom.

How many exhaust fans should I have in an Enthoo Pro? I have 4 extra fans to add to it but I was wondering what would be the most ideal airflow? I was thinking about putting one at the bottom to pull air up, 2 at the top to pull down and 1 more to put somewhere else in the case. Should I only use 1 exhaust that comes with the case? The extra fans I have are Corsair SP-120 High Performance I believe.

SP are designed for radiators and heatsinks, not airflow.

But, it really depends on your system. If you have a single GPU then you probably wouldn't see much if any benefit over the stock configuration.

If you have two GPUs, you'd benefit by having one fan blowing directly at them either from the front of the case or from the bottom. You likely wouldn't get much benefit from adding more beyond that.

Aftermarket fans aren't as much about improving thermal performance, but rather improving the ratio of Noise:Thermal Performance. Moving more air with less noise.

That little bit of plastic on the two pin connector that you see on that pictures was avoiding it to fit. I had to cut it just a bit and now it's working perfectly. I think I didn't do something wrong with that. On my previous 7970, like I said, it fits just nice, which was the reason for all my troubles plugging my new GTX 970.

Again, thank you all

Agreed, either the ASUS P8Z77-I or the ASRock Z77E-ITX would be perfect - plop it in a CM Elite 130 and away you go.

Holy crap I didn't know good the Sandy Bridges were on Overclocking. My previous PC (giving to my nephew for his birthday) had the 2600k and I manage to get it clocked from 3.4 to 4.5 GHZ at great temp and performance. Funny considering I can only get my Haswell around 4.6/7 :(

Well, can't complain, right? xD

I managed to get it to work with a third party software, L4D2 looks pretty good in 5040x1050, even though a single high-refresh monitor is better anyway.

Just built my PC - having the weirdest issue, though.

It POSTed just fine. In BIOS, I see the right RAM, CPU and SATA drives (one ssd and one optical drive).

The optical drive, however, will not open when I press the button. I can manually open it using a paper clip. so I went out and got another one. Same issue, the light just keeps blinking.

I've swapped out SATA ports to no avail. I've attached both DVD drives and they both have the same issue.

Any thoughts on what it could be? are my SATA ports configured in a way that could be causing this issue and/or are they broken?

Try using a different power cable from the PSU.

I'm really enjoying my upgrade to a 970. I have never played games like this before. Everything is on ultra and buttery smooth. I have been converted almost overnight. 60+ FPS for games is awesome.

Now go out and get yourself a 120/144Hz monitor. :p

you get adjusted to 120 fps and don't notice it as much, but then you go back and use a 60 Hertz monitor and you feel like someone went at it with a bat or something because it never felt that slow.

hah one of the drives just smoked up. i'm using a corsair ax860, I'm making the assumption that each port doesn't really matter. Is that wrong?

It shouldn't matter, but it's just something you could try. But the optical drive just burned out? Probably just a drive failure, though I might check the PSU if you can just in case.

Even throughout normal use, going back is a nightmare. At work, my monitor is 60hz. It's a terrible experience, that I wouldn't subject my worse enemies to. Of course that's only after using 120/140hz. Before that I had no clue what I was missing.

You know what? On this subject, help me out. I've been chatting with Smokey about monitors/builds and such and I continue to have my eyes set on the LG 34UM95. The Superwide monitor from LG. After deliberating... spending that much on a monitor is pretty pricey. I can make myself jump for the Asus ROG Swift, but the damn thing is never in stock anywhere. I want to give this high refresh rate thing a shot. Are most of them 1080p or are there other 1440p/144hz monitors on the market worth a darn?

The 970 being my first ever GPU, and having it at 144 Hz....It's amazing. I should have tried PC gaming sooner. Lol

So - mixed around cables, that worked. one of the drives now opens / closes. I don't think it's reading though, because I'm constantly booted into UEFI BIOS, even with a win7 dvd in the DVD rom drive.

The QNIX Evolution II can frequently be overclocked to 100-120Hz. There's some 144Hz 1440p AHVA Panels on the horizon, but won't be out for a bit.

But the QNIX is so cheap (given the budget range of what you're looking for), I'd really suggest picking one up just to try out.

aaaah fuck, the reset sw cable is too short. can't connect it to the mobo.
which is stupid because the cables from the front panel go into the same location, why can't they be the same length.
luckily there's a hardware button on the mobo, so I can at least try it for now.

everythings connected, hope I didn't mess up the +/- pins when I connected the front panel.
damn that was though, was looking back and forth from the instructions to the mobo to make sure.

welp it's assembled, lets turn it on

If anyone was interested in just how gigantic the Zotac Amp Omega cards are, here's a better picture to replace my terrible cell phone pic way earlier in the thread.
