Blue screen'd a third time, once again when I left the computer on while leaving the house. Someone I know mentioned that the blue screening might have to do with my computer entering sleep mode. Not sure I buy the explanation since my first blue screen wasn't happening while I left it on, but when I tried turning on an application that was being deleted without my knowledge.

Either way I was going to run a Memtest but when I plugged a USB stick into the front port the device doesn't stop disconnecting and reconnecting. It's a tiny USB stick with about 16 GB of memory that I usually use to move things between computers. I tried plugging it in from one of the regular USB back ports and it worked just fine there.

For reference, the front panel is USB 3.0 and my 1TB external works just fine on those ports. Do some USB devices have problems when put into ports like those?

Interesting.. The ITX5? Looks very nice and cheap

I was also told I would want Quad-Core...why did u opt for the G3258 ?

It's quad core if you're going AMD. The Pentium G3258 is Intel and the same CPU I suggested in a previous build for you as well. The Intel CPUs have a much higher IPC (instructions per clock) than the AMD CPUs so you can get away with fewer cores in a budget build. The G3258 is also great for overclocking.

It's GPU won't be as strong as an APU though, so I had only suggested it along with a separate GPU (The R7 260X) as you were concerned about being able to throw what you wanted at it.

@Durante

Some more info about the ASUS Deluxe that you might find interesting:

For expansion it looks like you have five PCI-Express 3.0 x16 slots and a PCI-Express x4 slot. The x4 slot can be used for the optional Hyper M.2 expansion card. It looks like there are 8 SATA 6GB/s ports and two SATA Express ports. Along the bottom of the board we can see power and reset switches along with a debug LED. There are four different dip switches, which we assume are for the BIOS, EPU and TPU. It looks like the rear I/O is made up of 10 USB 3.0 ports, two USB 2.0 ports, dual Ethernet, a CMOS reset switch, audio and antenna connections for the external antenna.

Are we expecting the 880 to come out soon?

I'm getting reimbursed (minus taxes, thanks Corsair) for my 780 ti sc that was damaged by the H100i pump leaking.

Should have the refund in about two weeks, how long of a wait do you think I'll be looking at for a nice 880 TI SC ...?

I was under the assumption you were using the PC for HTPC and not gaming. The G3258 is enough power to play 1080p24 and 1080p60 videos whilst decompressing any HD Audio stream.

If you want to game on the system then it would be a bit different. Then id recommend an ITX case like a Node 304, or cases like the Silverstone RVZ01.

That price? How much of a performance gap is it going to be between 870 and 880?
Going by a similar comparison, it should be something like the 670->680 or 760->770. Probably about 15%.

We're unlikely to see that.

To give you some background information, Kepler was released through two different # generations. The mid range Kepler chip was used for the GTX 680, where the high end one was only released as a workstation card at first. Then that high end chip became the Titan, which is the same one used on the 780 and 780 Ti.

The reason why there can be a Titan, 780, and 780 Ti is that they're all using the same chip, but with certain parts of that chip disabled (SMX clusters specifically). This results in different performance.

However, with the 880, they are again going to release the mid range chip (this time Maxwell) as the high end card. The high end Maxwell chip will probably be released at first as the Titan 2, and then later on down the road as a GTX 980, perhaps a GTX 980 Ti as well.

Honestly, I think the only reason the 780 Ti was released was due to the fact that AMD came out with the 290X, which was a total powerhouse. They had to respond to try and reclaim "most powerful gaming card" from AMD. Maybe I'm wrong, but that's certainly what it felt like.

So, the 880 that is going to be released will in some ways be technically inferior to a 780 Ti, especially when it comes to compute performance. It will, however, be a more competent gaming card that uses less power. Estimates say anywhere from a 15-35% performance increase over the 780.

Release should be within the next 2-3 months.

Thing is, i'm so misguided, i'm sorry. For now I just want to focus on my projector and video/audio quality.. Right now i'm running movies off my laptop which struggles and has frames issues and its the WORST. I want a machine that will run my media buttery smooth.. but i'm a big gamer (competitive games so I stick mostly to desktop) and i'm sure eventually I'll want to do some ROM gaming and some casual PC gaming on it as well...

this is what I have so far..

Would I be able to add on a GPU to this build later on if I wanted? I'm such a newb =[
just chose some random RAM =[

Thank you!

Seems like my plan will be to just rebuy the 780ti sc for now and then possibly use the step-up program.

Someone mentioned the problem with that being that you could only get reference cards...
Does that mean like no EVGA/ASUS/MSI etc versions... is that really a problem?
Worth waiting another few months with no rig?

I might just keep it if there isn't much difference.

Yeah, I saw this on computerbase. Strange position on the M.2, but at least they have it!

Anyway, I'm generally shopping far below "deluxe" level for MBs. (I don't really need what those offer over the "base" enthusiast models, I mean I even have a dedicated sound card!)

I hear you, I'm honestly at the point where all of those features are a knock for me. I've had such poor experiences with them, that I just want a standard chipset that has really high build quality. Thick PCB with high copper, quality MOSFET, and nice caps. Plus an intuitive UEFI/BIOS.
Thank you!

The step up program is EVGA only. You have to buy the reference version of the card, which means this:

and not this:

No SC, no extra memory, no anything outside of the base level card.

What would be reasonable asking prices for the following

2600k
P8z77-i

3220
Gigabyte h61n
8 gigs random 1333 ram

Thinking of shifting my home setup around a bit

The microphone on my Sennheiser PC360 headset has stopped working out of nowhere. I tried the front panel from sound card, motherboard directly, a laptop etc. Ports are all fine, the mic is dead.

It's almost 3 years old, warranty is 2 years. Of course!

The RMA fun
expensive
time begins now.

I think they do a flat $60 repair fee. That's what it was when I was looking at getting my PC-350s repaired. Though, that was my fault the mic broke on those.

From what I've read it seems like it's £54 in the UK. This is still massively cheaper than buying a replacement, it just sucks that it went so suddenly. No idea what I did wrong.

It's probably been asked quite a bit before, but does RAM speed make much of a difference for gaming? Say, 1333MHZ to 2400MHz? Will the answer be different with DDR4?

My Corsair Vengeance M65 was working fine, but after attempting to install the drivers, it got stuck on the highest DPI setting and continuously pulsates.

After finally getting my hands on a XL2411Z, to say I'm underwelmed is an understatement. I literally went after this screen after seeing it in this thread... Why is it in the OP? The colours are horrendous. Like seriously, I've tried to calibrate it all evening, tried a number of ICC profiles along with fiddling with the contrast settings. The blacks are too deep and have no detail. The whites are too bright and literally hurts to look at. What's the point of great motion if it can't display the most basic of colours?!..

Try disabling their strobing utility perhaps. Sounds like hyperbole though :P

*edit*

Try using this as a reference point for getting the settings correct: https://pcmonitors.info/reviews/benq-xl2420z/

Found in this thread where the user says the same thing as you: http://www.overclock.net/t/1485523/benq-xl2411z-adjusting-settings-and-problems

That was the first thing I did! The screen is incredibly dark when it's on.. But not flickery at all though which was impressive.

I'll have a read of those links. I've literally just had to lower the brightness of the screen because the link page was white with black text.. This is beyond a joke.

I've downloaded the ICM files and been switching between them the past few hours. It's just really bizarre, my previous monitor was a 2010 Viewsonic, not top of the range by any stretch, a bog standard TN panel. The colours on it are awesome compared to this. I mean, what the fuck? Has the quest for less motion blur really come to this?

I've seen one in person (at my last LAN), and I didn't notice any of that. I'll ask my pal to see if they've done something to calibrate it.

Hey guys, not too sure if this is the best place to ask. How do you install origin games on 2 different locations, I want bf4 on my ssd and crysis etc on my hdd. I've checked the options and it by the looks of it you can only specify on location.

I am really bummed about this ROG Swift having AG coating. I have removed AG coating twice once from the asus 144hz $280 monitor and once on a 30" Shimian PLS 1600p $600 monitor. However even with how brain dead easy it was to do and easily it went on both, knowing that I'm going to buy an $800 monitor only to pop it open and mod is is scary only because of the price tag.

Once I get one of these swifts I don't know what to do with my 30" screen, it seems weird to have a bigger screen for my second monitor, maybe I'm just being weird about that.

need some advice on whether to jump in and get a new build. I had one of these "gaming laptops"
I know, what was I thinking, but I needed something strong for college, zbrush maya and of course gaming
with:

a first gen i7 720Q
radeon 5870
8gb ram

Now that I don't need to drag it to college anymore I've been thinking of putting together a proper gaming pc as this is starting to show its age. Its served me well with over the years though and maybe I should ride it to the end?

Should I just chug along with this (currently newest game I have is black flag and it gets 30 fps, can't imagine it'll do any better with arkham knight and any game going forward) or bite the bullet and move forward.

Any advice?

Can anyone give me some advice with replacing a faulty GTX 580? What would be comparable nvidia card(s) on the market currently, or the current best bang for the buck?

So I think my HDD is on its way out, even though it's only two years old, but then, I don't know how long they are supposed to last. I've started having weird freezes which seem to result from the computer trying to write something to the disk in question. When I took a screenshot in a game for example, the game froze for a few seconds. Sometimes in Windows Explorer, trying to do something with files on the HDD will cause the whole thing to freeze, and other odd happenings like that. If anyone would like to offer suggestions as to alternate possible causes I'm all ears because I'd love an easy fix but..

If not, I'm gonna buy myself a new one. I was looking for something affordable with a good amount of space and came across this: http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B008YAHW6I/

Thoughts? :)

Hi guys just wanna ask if Ben 10 GL2460HM is a decent budget monitor? My budget is around 185 USD, any recommendations?

Edit

End of page...... Dang it

Loving the Swift. The AG coating doesn't even really bother me that much. 144hz @ 2560x1440 prepare yourself brehs. It's a revolution.

Tomorrow I resume troubleshooting the stupid nvlddkm bs error. Doesn't happen when doing anything else but gaming. Going to record how long it takes before it crashes on me. It seems like it happens around x amount of minutes...but that could just be in my head.

From your post I thought you'd be coming from years of using a non-TN panel (since it's pretty much what I think about the VG248QE). As that isn't the case I don't really know what's going on.
