Are you using any monitoring programs?
See what the clock speeds are at, are they overclocked at all?
Try to downclock Core and Memory by 100Mhz and see if it helps, even if you havent overclocked.
Check in nvidia control panel that the 3D settings are set for adaptive power, not performance mode.

It is a Asus Strix 970, factory OCed to 1329MHz boost, I'm currently on completely stock, power mode is adaptive, clock speed remains at 135MHz idle. I'll try downclocking first.

Cross posting from the BST: I Need a stock/ACX 780 heatsink and fan. Or an Accelero (two fan or more variety) for cheap if possible. Got a pair of 780s for cheap, but they came without heatsinks. I thought I had a solution, but it didn't work.

Hey all living in canada land so prices are not the friendliest. Would you recomeend trying to get a used 970 for the 250-300 range or wait for the 480? I prefer nvidia but am considering making the switch...
Thanks for any insight.

Doesn't hurt to wait.

Personally I was looking at 970s, but then jumped on a $150 780. I've seen 780 Tis listed for 200-250 and they are about the same or better than a 970.

Is Microcenter a recommended seller?
I would save so much money with one of their CPU/Mobo bundles, even after their single piece discounts.

I keep thinking there must be a trick to it lol.

Hoping someone can help me out here.

I'm getting a weird ghosting / red/blue blurring on my monitor with quick movement.

I have a Samsung U32D970Q 4K Monitor connected to a Titan X.

Any ideas what this could be?

I've only bought from the twice, but never had an issue with them. I'd go a lot more if the closest one wasn't 2 hours away.

Is it worth upgrading my Monitor to a Freesync Widescreen monitor right now? I'm looking at a LG 34" 1440p w/ Freesync for about £300

I'm about to get my CPU/Mobo through them. Saves me about $50 over Newegg even after tax.

No trick. Consider yourself lucky if you have one close to you.

I have one 10 minutes away and have always saved money with their cpu/mobo deal.

They have the 6700k for $290 right now. Pretty sure that's the lowest I've ever seen it.

$290?! Shit I bought it from them two weeks ago for $310. Any idea if they have a price match window like other stores so I could go back with my receipt?

Yesterday my Zotac GTX 970 (dual fan) started getting really loud as if the fans were on 100%. I checked and noticed that the fan towards the IO was spinning at full speed while the other one is at ~300 RPM. Does anyone know this problem? Sometimes they normalize and spin at the same rate again but that only lasts for a short time. I clean installed the drivers again but I'm not sure if its a software or hardware problem. Any ideas?

Anyone? Otherwise I'll have to exchange it. Just wanna make sure its actually a defect.

Nah there are none near any of the fans. I was just talking to Amazon, they will issue me a full refund once I send it back in. Think I will just put money to it and get a 550w G2 PSU. Think they are tier 1 so should be better, only have a 600w bronze evga one atm
Oh, I meant inside the PSU. Is it mounted with the fan facing up or down?

Probably not the best thread to ask this but I figure you guys will know. I'm getting a 1070 and I have a 1080p monitor at the moment. Most benchmarks seem to be able to handle most games at 1440 60fps even with high AA. Is it better to downsample my games from 1440 with little AA to 1080p or just jack up the AA at 1080?

I've been thinking its time for me to get a new PC, my old one isnt really cutting it anymore when playing games like Fallout 4 and such having around 45fps at best on descent settings. I only use my computer to play games and surf the web, so my aim is set on 1080p with good stable 60fps with the highest possible settings and to finally being able to play Skyrim with a good collection of mods and a ENB (finally T.T).

At first I was planing to do a build with a GTX 1080 but it costs a bit to much and I think that I wont be able to utilize all the power just playing in 1080p so I decided on a 1070 instead. My question is if the processor is a a overkill? Will I bee able to use most of it? I'm never been fond of having to upgrade every few years, except maybe a new graphics card. So I thought that having a strong CPU might give me longer time before having to buy a whole new system. How does my set-up look? All advice is welcome.

CPU: Intel Core i7-6700K 4.0GHz Quad-Core Processor
CPU Cooler: Noctua NH-D15 82.5 CFM CPU Cooler
Motherboard: Asus MAXIMUS VIII FORMULA ATX LGA1151 Motherboard

Video Card: MSI GeForce GTX 1070 8GB Video Card

They have the best deals with their CPU and motherboard combo discount. Absolutely buy those from there.

Downsampling is cool, but sometimes it's easier to just use AA. Some games don't even give you the option to do AA beyond "yes or no." It all just kinda depends on the game.

The 1070 will be an awesome card for playing at 1080p with all the eye-candy on.

GTX 1070 is about $120 CAD too expensive. Yes, it improves the performance over the GTX 970, but it also pushes the price up an entire tier.

Way to poop on your own launch, nVIDIA. :/

A question for all of you fine people:

Last night when I shutdown my computer I noticed a very faint, higher-pitched noise coming out of the back of the case. I went to sleep and when I woke up it was still going so I turned off the power bar and it stopped. I've been told that this is probably coil whine but I was under the impression that coil whine only happens when the computer is on and under load.

Anyone have any ideas?

Really need some help.

I'm looking to upgrade to 8gb of ram and I'm a little confused as to what kind of ram I need. I have a 0nwwy0 motherboard , would a DDR3 ram be compatible?

Do any of you upgrade your casings? I'm thinking my Silverstone FT-01 isn't quite doing the job

There's some awesome cases out there depends on what you're looking for.

I just ordered an Ncase, but that is a super specialized case.

What CPU does it have?

When I google that I see a pre-built Socket AM3 Motherboard which was DDR2.

Post a screenshot of CPU-z for us http://www.cpuid.com/softwares/cpu-z.html

EDIT: Oh boy

If you have a local microcenter, 100% jump on their specials. :p

I picked up a 144hz monitor tonight, and I've run into a very strange problem. The only time I can get a game to run at 144 fps is when I first start up my computer. If I quit a game and load it up again, it will be locked to 61 fps. This is occurring with every game I've tested, at all settings.

Has anyone encountered anything similar?

Vsync on?
Forced off in NCP, and turned of in every game I've played.

I restarted my computer and loaded up Overwatch. It was running at 144 fps, no issues. I quit the game and restart, and it is locked at 61. Fullscreen, borderless windowed, regular windowed. Nothing I do or tweak will uncap it after that initial session.

I can't find anyone else having the same issue in all of my searching.

EDIT: Ending every Nvidia process through task manager bumped my cap up to 127 fps for Overwatch. I hate to uninstall it and lose Shadowplay, but it's going to be a pain in the ass to do this every time I want to play a game.

Realistically speaking, how much availability can we expect on the 29th for AMD's new card? My brother is looking to upgrade so he can play Overwatch and I wanted to recommend a card for him. He's looking to spend $200, and I figured if the launch is big enough, prices for budget cards should drop, right?

Making a new PC for the first time in like a decade and just nabbed at GTX 1080. I got about another $750 remaining in my budget for parts, what are recommendations for a good build for gaming? Are there any parts, like motherboard or power plant that the 1080 specifically requires?

I'm finally looking to update my PC. My last build is from 2011 and while it still runs respectfully it's definitely starting to feel dated. I feel like my i5-2500k is still decent, but I run into a lot of issues with my motherboard and someone is offering me a brand new i7-6700k for $300 (is this a pretty good deal?). Here's my specs:

Current Specs:

Motherboard: ASUS P8P67 Pro (REV 3.0) 1155 Intel
CPU: Intel Core i5-2500k Sandy Bridge Quad-Core 3.3Ghz
RAM: PNY Optima 8GB (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM
PSU: Corsair TX Series CMPSU-750TX 750W
GPU: Sapphire Radeon HD 6870 1GB
Case: Old beat up Antec case that I want to get rid of
Storage: 128GB SSD + 2TB HDD

Budget: Less than $1500 for everything preferably, but flexible. I plan on waiting slightly before purchasing the GPU (to see if 1070-1080 prices come down with the 3rd party versions).

Main use: Heavy 1080p gaming with the option to move up to 1440p and maybe 4k. I also do animation, 3D rendering, and video editing.
I've always wanted a very nice emulation machine as well.

Resolution: I currently have two 23" 1080p monitors. I'll get nicer monitors down the line but these are fine for now.

Must be able to run: 60fps on highest settings for most games at 1440p at least.

When will I build: over the next two months or so.

Overclocking: If I want to do good emulation I imagine I'll want to overclock at least a bit.

Reusing: My Corsair TX750 and my storage, my monitors temporarily.

Here's the build I'm looking at currently:

CPU: Intel i7-6700k Skylake
Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-Z170XP-SLI
RAM: 2x8GB DDR4 3000
PSU: Reuse my Corsair TX750
GPU: GTX 1070... maybe 1080 if I want to jump to 4k in the future
Case: NZXT H230
Heatsink: CM Hyper 212 EVO
Storage: Reuse SSD and HDDs from old setup

Another option is to update all my parts and use my old computer as a render machine, though my space is limited.

And one other note: I'm pretty interested in having a TV in my living room be connected to my PC across the room (running an HDMI or DP cable to the TV, it's a small living room) for couch gaming. I won't be getting a 4k tv yet most likely so 1080p is fine, but I know most TVs have shitty input lag. If anyone has any good suggestions on playing my PC games off of a TV that'd be very helpful. It won't be a main display so I don't need to worry about readability of surfing the web and all that.

Let me know if I'm heading in the right direction? I could just update my graphics card and case and call it a day, but I feel like my motherboard is starting to bork. And once I update the motherboard I have to update everything else along with it basically.

Spent a couple of hours with PC Part Picker for my new GTX 1080 PC. It's been a while since I last made a PC, so I sort of have to relearn what options I really need. This is what I've put together so far:

PCPartPicker part list / Price breakdown by merchant

CPU: Intel Core i5-6600K 3.5GHz Quad-Core Processor ($219.99 @ Newegg)
CPU Cooler: Noctua NH-U12S 55.0 CFM CPU Cooler ($61.88 @ OutletPC)
Motherboard: MSI Z170-A PRO ATX LGA1151 Motherboard ($82.98 @ Newegg)
Memory: G.Skill Ripjaws V Series 32GB (2 x 16GB) DDR4-2133 Memory ($114.99 @ Newegg)
Storage: Hitachi Deskstar NAS 4TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive ($159.88 @ OutletPC)
Video Card: MSI GeForce GTX 1080 8GB Founders Edition Video Card ($698.99 @ SuperBiiz)
Case: Fractal Design Define R4 (Titanium Grey) ATX Mid Tower Case ($109.99 @ NCIX US)
Power Supply: EVGA 750W 80+ Gold Certified Fully-Modular ATX Power Supply ($84.99 @ NCIX US)
Optical Drive: Asus DRW-24B1ST/BLK/B/AS DVD/CD Writer ($16.88 @ OutletPC)
Operating System: Microsoft Windows 10 Home OEM 64-bit ($83.89 @ OutletPC)
Total: $1634.46

That's a couple hundred more than I had in mind, but totally do-able. Maybe I can be more efficient with what parts I choose. My current setup is pretty outdated, so I want to get something good that will last me a good long while in a duel monitor setup. Thoughts? Recommendations?
