I could use some guidance and advice please.
Since I got my 9070XT I need to get the rest of my new build. I'll be honest: I was not expecting a near £2k build. The current list is mostly just popular parts from PCPP, so this is where the refinement comes in.
Usage overview
1440p gaming, very little else. Dual boot of W11/Linux. Current monitors are 180hz, no 4K TV. I like the idea of efficiency, not raw power. Will undervolt the GPU for certain, haven't thought about the rest.
Current thoughts
CPU Might be overkill. Need to check benchmarks. I'm torn because I stuck with my Intel CPU for 12 years so a good CPU is an investment there, but with AMD I could always upgrade a few years from now if needed. Is 9800X3D £150 better than 9700X? 7800X3D is essentially pointless, if I'm going to spend £390 I might as well spend the extra £60 for 9800X3D.
Cooler If it does the job without being loud I'm happy. I've heard of Peerless Assassin. Current is a 212 Evo.
Mobo Most help needed here. Not sure who's good and who isn't, but I know some have had issues (ASRock maybe?). These are all much more expensive than I expected.
Memory Current is Corsair LP, so threw Corsair in again. But I don't want RGB so happy to pick a reasonably priced yet reliable alternative. I also want to find recommended/compatible RAM that doesn't cause the minute long post times, that would annoy me.
Storage The logic behind 2x P3 is a W11 drive and a Linux drive with plenty of room for game installs on the Linux drive. With FSR4 not being on Linux yet maybe I could hold off until a sale. Thinking about it, 1TB for W11 seems more than enough for a system drive. MX500x2 are ~1 year old drives that will come with me and currently are a dedicated games drive and an all purpose data drive. Might need to have a think about this.
Case Will probably swap out if this doesn't have dust filters. Current is Fractal R4.
PSU I want reliable and quiet. I vaguely remember advice being to aim for about half capacity at load, which this doesn't achieve with ~250W to spare, but I don't know if that's legitimate advice.

Thank you so much for taking the time, this is brilliant.Just saw your post in a different thread related to this so thought I'd chime in here.
This is what I'd suggest:
- Swapped the CPU for a 7700x - minimal difference to the 9700x, and if you're gaming at 4k then you'll see no benefit jumping to a 9800x3d chip when paired with a 9070xt
- Swapped the motherboard for a better one - imo MSI are the ones to go with for AM5, by quite some distance
- Swapped out the RAM for a CL30 kit, ideally you want 6000mhz CL30 for AM5. I run with 6400 cl30, but there are some specific tweaks required to get it running in gear 1 with AM5 processors - if that means nothing to you then stick with CL30 6000, it's not going to be worth the extra hassle/money for you
- Swapped the case for a similarly priced but better one
I mostly second this, but I'd say go for the 9809x3d.Just saw your post in a different thread related to this so thought I'd chime in here.

Can vouch for GHG. My build is a MSI B650 Tomahawk, 7600x, 9070xt, XPG 32GB cl30 6000mhz RAM and its been rock solid.Going to give that a watch later. I'm the target audience for a value for money product so I'm all ears

Not necessarily. This video is required watching for anyone building a new AM5 PC at the moment IMO:
Soodanim the video above should clear everything up for you.
The TLDW is that there's zero difference between a 7700 and 9800x3d when paired with a 9070 XT and running at 4k resolution.
Still worth watching it for the intricacies though. Personally I think his channel has a lot of good resources for people looking to do new builds at the moment, also on the OS side of things:
Save all of your pennies. You must have only the best, pops! 9950X3D + 5090 + Greed +Tariffs = Profit!I no longer have a PC. My son's PC died and building a new one wasn't in the budget so gave him mine. I'll look into a new build later in the year.

Very interesting going from 3700x to 5700x3d without changing 3080. Still 10gb vvram
Cyberpunk got SUPER playable now. I can do PT(maxed, new transformer model) 4k with ultra performance dlss and get good playable fps 30-40+.
But on 1 setting to left (so maxed out but not PT), my benchmark result jumped from 34 to 54. Kinda crazy.
It's still a trashy engine.Lol of course it did. People got all up in my grill for saying this but some games are CPU bound even before they get to 60 fps.
Especially if you were using trash Zen1 and Zen 2 CPUs. i caught so much flack for telling people to upgrade from zen 1 and zen 2 when they kept bitching about starfield being unoptimized. they cheaped out and fell for the wrong hype on those CPUs thanks mostly to idiotic youtube reviewers then called everything poorly optimized.
Try Space Marine 2, Starfield, Jedi Survivor, and other UE5 games. Early UE5 games are heavily single threaded and those zen 1 and zen 2 CPUs had lowish single core clocks. I had no issues running most of these games at 60 fps but people act like UE5 is the biggest piece of trash ever. All because they bought the wrong CPUs 4 years ago.
Yeah difference is there.Lol of course it did. People got all up in my grill for saying this but some games are CPU bound even before they get to 60 fps.

You can get much better deals on used Rog Allys or Legion Go's.I used to, but I never used it very much so I sold it. Might look into getting a cheaper used one for the time being.

Just install Bazzite on them and you effectively have a much more powerful Steamdeck,
$840 for a 70 series GPU... gross. We've definitely lost the plot as consumers. Just hate to see it, lmaoIf any of you are in the Dallas area and need a new GPU my local Microcenter has 18 5070 Ti's for $839, which is about as close to MSRP as you will get.

I do not like the 5000 series and struggle to recommend it, but if you absolutely need a 5000 series and will not buy AMD (there are none available anyway) then this is easily the best you can do.
Its much better than the $900-$1000 prices we've seen. I agree, it isn't a great deal, but its the least worst non-launch deal I've seen.$840 for a 70 series GPU... gross. We've definitely lost the plot as consumers. Just hate to see it, lmao
Nvidia streaming service is awesome if you want to play your PC gamesYeah, I'll see what is available when the time comes. I may wait and see how the newer Z2 Extreme processors are.
What were you using before the 5070 Ti (As I assume that's what you spend $900 on)Ended up biting and getting the MSI Ventus x3 oc for 899.99 off MSI's store. It ended up 20 bucks cheaper than the 849 one I could've gotten off newegg due to free delivery and no sales tax. Sucks, but it is what it is.

I am happy to hear. Hold tight!I ended up canceling it, the damn thing is 40.9 DB under gaming load. Fuck that. It was a 5070ti, ya. I'll keep my 4070 for a bit longer, I guess.
Like Intel CPU he bursted into flamesSo what happened to this Leonidas geezer?
Like Intel CPU he bursted into flames
The NYC Microcenter basically have all the 5070 ti in stock, they have them from $750-1k. If someone is will to trust a random stranger on the internet, I can pick up a GPU and ship it anywhere. If any of you are in the Dallas area and need a new GPU my local Microcenter has 18 5070 Ti's for $839, which is about as close to MSRP as you will get.

He's had a few people taking over his shilling duties on the nvidia side. It's better to burn out than to fade away, until then just shill all day

Nice case!!! Happy for you that you decided to rebuild…that's a really good system IMOGoing ahead and building a new PC. Kept my 9070 XT as my son's GPU was still good. Gave him my case rather than trying to transfer it all to his old case and just moved his old SSDs over.
So here is the new build to go along with the 9070 XT and my two SSDs.
Gigabyte B850M Aorus Elite mATX
Lian Li A3 mATX
Thermalright Frozen Prism 360 AIO
Ryzen 7 9700X 8 Core
32GB 6400MHz
Corsair RM850x PSU
Going mATX. Was considering ITX but the cost is a bit absurd. mATX is a bit more compact, but cost is comparable to full ATX. Absolutely no RGB or lighting of any kind. No interest in a light show.

Since I replaced my 9070Xt with a 5070 Ti I will keep a close eye on Linux support. From what I gather nvidia has made significant strides improving Linux performance.
If we get to a point where Bazzite can run games within 10% of windows performance I will switch back to Linux.
I hate myself for it. But here is why:I'm curious why you switched to 5070 ti over 9070 XT
I hate myself for it. But here is why:
1. Lack of HDMI 2.1 support in Linux forced me to abandon my bazzite/SteamOS home theater setup. I have my PC setup in my living room. So I had to switch back to Windows and it's fine, but AMD drivers in Linux are on par and in many cases better in Linux. But not using Linux basically took away my biggest reason for doing it.
2. I got the 9070XT for $750 on amazon. It felt like now or never. I found the 5070 Ti for $799 and I felt the better DLSS support made the small price premium worth it. If I had gotten the 9070XT at $599, I absolutely would not have upgraded.
3. AMD GPUs are not 100% compatible with my Onkyo receiver and I had to run it directly into the TV, while all my other components ran through the receiver into the TV. It was a minor hassle, but nvidia GPUs can pass through the receiver, still get GSync (yes GSync, not HDMI VRR), ALLM, 4K/120. It works pretty well.
I am hoping that AMD will get much of these issues worked out when it is time to upgrade my 4090 desktop PC.
It was a great GPU, but the 5070 Ti is a little bit better in terms of performance. At MSRP, I feel the 9070XT is a better buy.Gotcha. I lucked out and got my 9070 XT at $600 so I'm sticking with it. It has been great for me, but I can see how it could be problematic with your setup.
