Maybe its all in my head but the first and second game captured perfectly the feeling of the story , witcher 3's atmosphere felt more like i was playing an typical fantasy game except for the No man's land , this world is full of deceit , suffering , dangers lurking everywhere and witcher 3 didnt felt like that

the atmosphere of witcher 1 almost sent me intro a depression , you could really see how conflicts of the world affected the population

i really hope they go back to that type of world and they stay away from high fantasy

Brace yourself OP.

You are delusional. Witcher 4 is going to have a tone like Disney Star Wars

Witcher 3 is one of my all time favourites, and one of the most well rounded games I have played in recent years. I haven't played the first and second game to give a meaningful opinion, but for Witcher 4 I imagine they'll be expanding heavily upon the mechanics of the third game as well as much much more.

The second game is really really good, been playing lately for Xbox and I forgot how much I love the game. It runs pretty good on x.

W3 is fantastic but I really like W2. It feels more personal maybe is because of the much smaller maps and not having a huge open world map.

I only played Witcher 3 so I hope it's more like that but wouldn't mind it being similar to Witcher 1 and 2 either I guess since they looked good too from what I've seen. I just hope it won't go towards the "modern audience" route too much. I do want Ciri to have a bigger role though and won't mind her being the main and mastering her powers more and more throughout the game.

I think they will probably try to blend elements from three games. It's the first chapter in the new trilogy so they will probably try to spend a lot of time on setting up the new protagonist, whoever they will be, and having them forging relationships with a main cast

Hard to say where they will go with it, but I do hope the main story will follow more in TW2 direction as I liked it much more. But one thing that you can expect is them retaining open world and side activities with contracts for monsters. That's pretty much guaranteed and I don't think it's a bad thing as this stuff was great in TW3

I'm kinda curious about the setting and which places we will visit over the course of these three entries

While The Witcher 3 is my absolute favourite WRPG, I agree that 2's atmostphere is simple better overall and somewhat felt closer to the books. Flotssam forest is better than any forest in 3.
As for gameplay... well, improve from 3 please, don't ever go back to 2's point and click lol.

With all that said, I have absolutely no confident CDPR these days to further develop the series.

Same for me. In The Witcher 2, the story was really different regarding of your choices. If wasn't the case in The Witcher 3.

And I liked Cyberpunk 2077, but there was only a few choices; many quests only have one possible ending.

So I hope The Witcher 4 will have more choices, which will impact the story.

I'm not to fussed about how authentic the games are to the books, the books themselves aren't exactly great in my opinion - the author even admitted that the games took his story and characters to another level even beyond what he had envisioned in the books.

I found first Witcher most interesting, I liked the combat and it felt much more creepy than Witcher 2 (Haven't played 2)

I love The Witcher 1, it's one of my favorite games :lollipop_smiling_face_eyes:
It'd be awesome to see some of its mechanics return, like manually choosing between your silver and steel swords, combat styles, and the superior medallion.

I don’t necessarily disagree, but I thought W3 had all those factors (deceit, suffering, dangers, etc.) all over its world.

I kinda agree. Open worlds are done to death at this point.

Unless they are gonna revamp it and do something that is relatively new - then its just another open world game ill have to grind through and be burnt out at the end.

I much prefer tighter hub worlds *IF* it comes with more variety, a tighter focus on character building etc. The open world aspect is just icing on the cake, it really isnt needed if everything checks the boxes.

I also believe, if it isnt open world, they might have time to focus on other aspects of the game.

I get what you're saying OP. Witcher 2 did a lot of things right and it won it's due respects in our minds. It nails down all of the core themes and elements that make up the Witcher world. It properly set up a rich adult dark fantasy setting. When you say that you hope W4 borrows more from W2, I'm assuming that this is what you're referring to.

That being said, I do think Witcher 3 really improved on that formula in many ways, and I couldn't go back to playing Witcher 2 as easily as jumping into Witcher 3, so I would hope that the 4th installment just builds upon the 3rd game.

I'm not a big fan of Open world games, I am OCD when it comes to collecting in game items and conversations etc and I struggled A LOT with Witcher 3. I couldn't play the game without save scumming and it took an eternity to finish as there were too many points of interest on the map and I burned out many times trying to keep up with that. My major wish is for them to tone down the Ubisoft open world aspects we found in Witcher 3. There is a vocal crowd who seem hellbent on erasing linearity in video games but it has it's merits and I personally don't have 400 hours to throw into a single game anymore myself so I'm always happy to play something that's a bit more story driven.

I played The Witcher from the first game, and I think Witcher 2 is pretty underrated, but that said, you're out of your goddamn mind.

Witcher 1's story was barely there, little more of a prologue for what came after. Witcher 2 is a great game with a good story, and there are aspects of it I wouldn't mind seeing back (I think the progression system was better, and choices had a bigger impact on the story in some ways), but Witcher 3 was still a massive improvement.

Witcher 3 did a great job of capturing the spirit of the short stories, I think, like this idea of roaming around as an outcast and solving people's monster troubles, it was just so good.

2nd game is great, but "use Quen to win" was at its absolute worst in that one.

I'd be very surprised if they deviate from the design of the game that truly put them on the map.
And it needs to be 3rd person. 1st person swordfighting outside of VR is usually a bit shit and the way Geralt or other Witchers fight is better set in 3rd person.

I did enjoy the "smaller world" feel of Witcher 2, game was great. But Witcher 3 was definitely better, and one of my top games of all time (both are in my top 50 list). I'm down for more Witcher 3 if they retain the same level of depth and story telling.

Well let's see how the remake of the first game goes. Haven't seen an update on that lately. Are they even working on it? How hard is it to remove everything we enjoy from it?

The second game looked very nice, but it was too small in scope and they cut it short. There was a decent article on it way back in Game Informer on how it almost never got made and they needed to cut most of the 3rd act.

My prediction is its gonna have a bunch of technical issues due to the switch to UE and will be written for "modern audiences"

Yeah... No.

Wticher 3 is my favorite game of all time. For the next game I'd like to see an evolution and not just an expansion, tho.

I’m down for a smaller experience like Witcher 2. That game was incredible.

I couldn’t get past the bad combat early on in the first game, so I never finished it.

No.

Less world politics, more personal story. Witcher 3 is the best of the trilogy and they should build on that next.

I loved #2 also. I was 20 hours into #3 and just dropped it. The issue with #3 is the story is so damn boring and moves at a snails pace. Sure the side quest are good but what does it matter when you've killed the main story with BS. Like 15 of the first 20 hours could have just been cut out completely. There was no reason my interactions with the Bloody Baron should have been forced the way they were. I hated hearing him say "One more thing before I help you Witcher.".

Witcher 2 though was nonstop with the story beats. The story was constantly advancing in new and interesting ways and keep you on the hook.

Witcher 1 is peak, my favorite Witcher game. Combat is hot poo, the Swamp can go die in fire, but everything else is incredible.
Still favorite my atmosphere, RPG and meditation mechanics for the series. City truly feels lived in with all the NPCs running to take cover from the rain, all the stores being closed at night etc. I even like the graphical style especially from top down view. Sad that some of that overall vision was lost for subsequent entries.
