If you're one of those people who can't stand unrealistic stuff, you won't be able to get over the following:

- WAY too many jump scenes.
- Shaky cam and awkward angles to hide the lack of interesting fighting.
- Lots of cheesy cliches. The reporter gets taken by zombies and drops the camera perfectly to film her getting eaten. STARS guy shoots dog and says "Stay". Black guy is comic relief with obvious 'typical' black guy dialogue.
- Good rebel Umbrella scientist tries to login. Denied. Enters command "Hack Program". Access granted. Don't forget the cameras/phones all over the city at his disposal, and the fact he can pinpoint the hero party's location anytime.
- The Nemesis suit looks like it came from the 80s. He wears a leather jacket.
- Milla hops a fence and lands on a car. Nemesis fires a rocket from the other side of the fence and it magically lands on the car without touching the fence.
- Milla goes down a garbage shoot and Nemesis fires a rocket down the shoot to get her. She lands in an alley, in a PLASTIC garbage bin. She flips it 90° so she's covered by the rocket explosion DIRECTLY behind her.
- Milla drives a motorcycle into one of those tongue things. I guess the difference in pressure created a lifting force that propelled the motorcycle AND the monster perpendicular into the air while she shoots the bike and creates an explosion.
- A fire tarp apparantly is able to withstand lots of shrapnel.
- They detonated a nuke.
- They outran a nuke in a helicopter. Sorta.
- No one recognized them when they came for Milla at the end.
- Open ending intended to make the SAME MOVIE AGAIN?!?

It had potention but they took the easy cash in. Cliche movie out of the early 90s.

It was much worse than I expected. Just horrible.

Oh and is anybody else sick of the typecast black character who serves no purpose other than to act goofy the whole movie?

I guess you guys are the mindless masses Anderson was thinking of when he wrote this movie. Never felt so insulted in my life, what utter shit.

saw the movie and it was............alright.

I didnt like where they went with the movie.....

First the negatives..
-the whole story was just lametacular...obviously this was written for the "mindless masses" as one would say.....near the end of the movie it felt like it went from a horror movie to a family movie.
-Acting.....haha...what acting?
-Michael epps.....Now, I like Michael Epps, but It was pretty lame how they used him in this movie. Of course, it got alot of laughs out the audience....but I mean, it wasnt really funny stuff, just Epps acting "ignant." Im tired of these movies with mostly an all white cast then you got this Black character who is "Ignant" for comic relief or some Fat Angry Black Woman getting "Ignant". I dont know, It just got played out to me half way through the movie, it just seemed like a real cheap way to get laughs from the audience.....repeat viewings will prove my point. Not that I didnt get a chuckle here and there....tho cause I did.
-Whoever Directed this shit kinda sucked with the camera work. For instance, in Hero, when you see the fight scenes, you basically can see most of what the hell is going on...there were many times where I didnt know what the hell the two people fighting on screen were doing because the camera had alot of these wierd ass close up shots and it was just really annoying....I mean I still enjoyed the fight scenes but I also got annoyed alot trying to understand what the hell was going on in some of them.
-Music....blah...typical boring uninspiring rock and roll action crap.
-this is the second resident evil movie, and there is still no wesker...

pluses
-lots of gunplay, i like gunplay.
-Good amount of stuff from the videogames included
-Lickers
-people getting owned.
-stupid people getting owned. (cmon, all horror movies have dumb ass people....and it annoys me when I watch the movie alone, but i saw this one with my friends so it gave us something to make fun of, hence...plus and not negative)
-Michael Epps. Like I said, I like Michael Epps, just dont like the way they used him and the way they overplayed him.

so again.....it was alright....
Worth watching once.....not worth buying on dvd tho....imo

peace

Lord was that movie ever bad, but it was also highly entertaining, moreso then the original film in fact. It also did stuff that the first one should have, like showing more game faithful scenes.

I to loved the black guy , he was hilarious.

You need to open you mind to other forms of entertainment. Sure, i will enjoy Pulp Fiction, Memento, Pi and any other "mind/dialog" type of films out there but i can also turn my brain off and ENJOY a movie like this. What did you expect? I mean really? If you post here then you should be greatly disappointed because 90% of videogames is just as "bad" or worse than this movie. Saving princesses, dragons, spells, WWII FPS' i mean come on...live a little or become a critic.

I think it's just as bad if someone had Mathew Lillard do it or some token white comic relief dude. They are there to get laughs and nothing else...look a Jar Jar...but if they really want us to laugh have them die in a funny way...my 2 cents.

Well...it's almost a night and day thing...kinda like Kill Bill vol 1 and 2. The first was more tense because of the HIVE being in control and surprises were a-plenty, the second movie was more in your face...action with very little tension other than the annoying "boo" moments. I like them both, the first seems tighter but you'll get a kick out of it...one way or another :p

Er, I have no problem with shitty popcorn flicks. I really enjoyed the first Resident Evil but this movie was BEYOND bad and stupid to the point of being an insult.

So is it better of worse than the first Resident Evil movie?

I enjoyed it much more than the first resident evil movie, though some of the stuff was pretty CRAPPY.

Spoilerish question?

I want to go to the movies today. If I have really low expectations for this film and just take it as a popcorn movie, will I enjoy it?

I'm thinking of seeing "Cellular" (55% on Rotten Tomatoes). Which one should I see?

(I've seen "Hero" and "Collateral")

Obviously the movie wasn't great, but I really liked the action scenes, especially between Alice and the Nemesis. Although that final scene between them was like, what?

The first thing that screamed CODE VERONICA was when
Alice drops her gun, then drops down, picking it up and killing the guards
, and perhaps even the end when she
has psychic powers? (alexia?)

I enjoyed this movie, probably gonna buy the DVD. Shaun of the Dead is a must-see! :)

I'm suprised, it wasn't a good film, but I didn't hate it. It even had fun moments.

Nuking Toronto City Hall was hilarious. (I lived near there before.)

6.5/10: passable popcorn fun - one of the better bad movies this year.

You've pretty much summed everything that I had a problem with in the movie.

Except:

-Jill and company are stuck in a church full of lickers and out of nowhere Milla comes crashing through stained glass on her motorcycle and proceeds to kick ass. How did she know people were in there?

-Milla ontop of the building where the sniper was. How the hell did she get up there so fast? And the whole thing of her 'running-falling' down the building.

-The main bad guy saying 'Finish him!' during the last fight.

-Too much fist fights with zombies. The whole aspect of RE being survival horror is that you can't take on zombies by punching them or kicking them (with the exception of whatever your character does to shake them off). Seriously, some parts, like the graveyard scene, were just terrible.

Really, I tried going into the movie with an open mind, but it's just a bad movie. I guess if you liked the first one you'll like this. As for me, I'll watch it again if just for seeing the actress for Jill Valentine, but I think Milla basically being superwoman ruined anything that resembled survival horror.

She probably heard the gunshots.

Yeah, perhaps. I'm not really thinking too into it, it just seemed a little too convenient.

Like I said, it was just bullshit how anytime Jill and company were in danger Milla magically appeared out of nowhere to save them.

Spoilers!

Did anyone think that when the helicopter crashed out in the woods you would see the characters see a mansion then go into it not realizing there's a hidden lab under the mansion, like in RE1 the game?

Oh yeah "GTA MOTHER FUCKERS! 10 POINTS!"

I don't think that's possible, since the mansion gets blown up in July. (game spoilers of course)

Did the first movie really follow the first game? =)

Not at all, but the mansion in the movie was supposedly the Spencer Mansion, which Jill explored in July. That much makes sense.

Just got back from seeing this. Not a bad movie at all although the quick-cuts and the effects used in some of the scenes were terrible. Some of the action was fairly cool. The fist-fighting with zombies was kind of dumb but I loved how they made Jill a lot tougher and more badass. A lot of the scenes involving Jill vs the zombies were a lot better than the ones involving Alice and the zombies for the most part.

Now for some nice random stuff I liked

- Nicholai, Yuri, and Carlos. Would've been nice to see Nicholai go all evil and stuff but it was just good to have him. Nice that Yuri and Nicholai died in the same order =P
- Super-Alice/Super Wesker parallel. Soooooooo Code Veronica.
- Same voice sample for Nemesis as RE3 and the detail put into making it look exactly like Nemesis was great.
- Lickers were damn accurate and kicked some major butt. Wish there were more in the movie
- Having the opening scene from Code Veronica at the end of the movie was fun stuff.
- First scene with Jill walking into the Police Station and just headshotting a ton of zombies like she owned the place was great.

Sienna Guillory was so HOT. I want a piece of her!

I just saw it. Didn't have any expectations, so the movie was pretty entertaining. In some ways it was better than the first one.

I haven't even seen the movie yet, but in all honesty what were those of you criticizing this movie expecting?

The Resident Evil videogames are horribly written, plots are mish-mashed together seemingly haphazardly as Capcom can't seem to understand the fans' unending desire for more cheese and crap. Seriously, even stuff like Wesker's Report which was meant to somewhat re-tell the overarching story of the series and make it more cohesive, really only served to open more plot holes and muddle what fans had spent years trying to (somehow) figure out themselves. (And yes, I'm quite aware that the second Wesker's Report was a bit more successful at fixing things). You have to understand that the fans love this tripe and are damned proud of it.

How do I know all of this? I'm one of them goddammit, and while I love my Pulp Fictions and Icos of this world, I also love a movie/game that'll go down and dirty and just say f**k it to everything approaching common sense, and just takes you for a fun as hell ride. This is what the Resident Evil series did for me. I know it doesn't make sense, I know it's borderline idiotic, but it's so much fun (and I hope to god they haven't entirely killed off the storyline with RE4) that I just don't care. From everything I've read here (including the spoilers), it seems that they've done the right thing and stayed true to the original game series. God bless them for that.

I'd hate to see them try to make this a serious sci-fi horror flick, because that is exactly what RE isn't.

People, if it has zombies exploding left, right and centre, with various overpowered weapons (or yes, even kung fu) the movie has done what it was meant to do: be Resident Evil.

Here's the Capcom RE equation:

Zombies + Death = Good.

Is that so hard to understand?

Ninja Zombies = good
Monkey Zombies = good
Michael Jordan Zombies = DMczaf, Loki
