I thought Tommy Tallarico was fired and his work removed from Metroid Prime?

"An accomplished musician, Tallarico has been writing music for video games for more than 12 years. In 1994, he founded Tommy Tallarico Studios, the multimedia industry’s largest post-production audio house. In video games, television, film, radio, soundtracks, toys and even on floats in the New Year’s Day Rose Parade in Pasadena, California, Tallarico’s music has been heard by hundreds of millions of people around the world. Top titles include The Terminator, Earthworm Jim, Disney’s Aladdin, Cool Spot, Metroid Prime, Maximo, Tomorrow Never Dies, Tony Hawk Pro Skater and Spider-Man as well as top selling popular game franchises such as Madden Football, Blitz Football, Pac-Man, Knockout Kings, Unreal, Mortal Kombat, Twisted Metal & Time Crisis."

On that note, his profile makes him sound like the best music composer EVER. :lol

He was relegated to a much more minor job.

He claims that he was too expensive and Retro needed to cut the budget.

The rest of the world believes that Retro simply wanted someone with talent.

An ethical journalist wouldn't be involved in rating a game which they had taken part in creating. Like the way Judges are recuse themselves if they have a conflict of interest.

He also did the opening music to replace the J-Pop for the Tales games that have mede it over here, since Namco Hometek has never sprung for the rights to the original J-Pop.

No he didn't. Motoi Sakuraba composed that piece.

Earthworm Jim's best music was the classical tunes, Moonlight Sonata, etc. I hardly think you can take credit for simply synthesizing existing music.

You can. You still altered the music and made it your own, even if you just did it through different instruments. :/

no -- you're getting two things mixed up.

tallarico studios (dunno if tommy did it or one of his lackeys -- i think he has lackeys, anyway) did the music that replaced the j-pop in tales of destiny (PS1).

sakuraba did the replacement for tales of symphonia. a much better idea. but namco localization is of a much higher caliber now than it was back then.

Oh. Well, you said "The tales games."

You didn't specify which one. :(

I hope Tommy dies, after witnessing his "review" of SSBM on Electric Playground. Even the other more reasonable guy hated the game.

Dudes TOTALLY got bought out on that review. I swear one of the quotes was something like "Once again Nintendo thinks they can sell a game that just has a bunch of their mascots hitting each other. Nintendo, please grow up."

Yo, STFU assholes!

I still can't get over that review. They gave it a 2.5 and a 3.5 out of ten. But their website gave it 9.0?!?!? Yeah, you're a source I can fucking trust.

To add dumbness to injury, they quickly said "and EGM gave it a 8.0" when they actually gave it a 9.0, why I have no idea.

Nothing worth mentioning

Terminator for Sega CD and Burning Road for PS1 both have amazing soundtracks. The music for Earthworm Jim SE and EJ 2 for Saturn are great as well.

You may not like him as a TV personality but the man has talent as a composer. He wouldn't be so darn successful if he didn't.

He composed the soundtrack to MDK, too(I think...). He doesn't completely suck. I guess his MP soundtrack would've been similiar to it.

Man, such hate. I can't say I care for him too much, but he has made plenty of catchy music.

EWJ (1 and 2), MDK, Wild 9, Redline, and Maximo (1 and 2) all have great tunes. The CD audio versions of EWJ music are also much better than the synth found in the cart versions...

yeah I agree

I think he did the music for Unreal 2 and he is doing the music for Advent Rising (which looks good)

If there was one good thing about Unreal 2, it was the music.

If anyone wishes to know, these are so far the most recent games he's composed for ordered from most recent to earliest.

The X-Files: Resist or Serve (2004)
Devastation (2003)
Scooby-Doo!: Night of 100 Frights (2002)
Casper: Spirit Dimensions (2001)
Evil Dead: Hail to the King (2001)
Messiah (2000)
Sacrifice (2000)
Spider-Man (2000)
Pac-Man World (1999)
Redline (1999)
Unreal Mission Pack 1: Return to Na Pali (1999)
Apocalypse (1998)
Test Drive: Off-Road 2 (1998)
MDK (1997)
Screamer 2 (1996)
Earthworm Jim 2 (1995)
Walt Disney's The Jungle Book (1994)

no it's because tommy tallarico is just bitter he got kicked off the metroid team so he gives all nintendo games shit scores in his reviews. That's totally unprofessional.

I agree. If he weren't removed, he'd be giving MP high scores.

He never was fired. There's something called a "Contractor". I realize most of you haven't had a job in your life that was above minimum wage, so maybe I can educate you. "Contractors" fill a role in a company until they can fill it themselves, and sometimes they stick around for the whole job and sometimes they don't. Now in this case Tommy was "contracted" to do the music. Now when Retro couldn't work on several projects at one time because they couldn't handle the work load. They consolidated and everyone moved to work on Metroid Prime. This made the need for a "contractor" not really required. I hope you enjoyed your business lesson. Every contractor knows they could be fired any day they walk in the office, and it probably is not due to performance. It's just the nature of the role they fill.

"He gave Ninja Gaiden a 7.5 and Medal of Honor: Rising Sun a 9.5."

He also said he didn't like Halo. Yet I've never seen an Xbox fan really give a shit.

As a contractor myself, I have to wonder why Tommy was evidently bitter about being made redundant, that's part and parcel of Contracting.

"no need for that... :|"

Not a put down. I just figure this board skews young for the majority of posters. I only had minimum wage part time jobs until I graduated from college.

Anyone who thinks that his only critics are bitter Nintendo fans haven't really watched his show or read what he has said on forums. The man's opinion boils down to whether or not a game has enough T&A and violence (I kid you not.) His reviews are the most worthless things that one can imagine--when you are giving points to the Incredible Hulk game because Jennifer Connelly appears in the movie, there is something terribly wrong.

Yeah, I talked to Victor Lucas (?) at E3 2k2 and he told me that Tallarico was no longer working on the game due to Retro's changing in business structure. He personally attributed it to the buying out of Retro by NCL.

Also, as much as I don't respect his tastes in games, the guy isn't 14. He's not going to base his score on something like that. And besides, that point is retarded, he's been giving low scores to quirky Nintendo games for as long as I recall.
