Back home. Thanks for all your questions, both informative and/or silly. Disclaimer: I thought it would be good to have some actual hands-on answers in here and as a little to GAF.

Below are the answers for Page 1:

Page 1:

I am going to go with no. The game was pretty playable, definitely in the 60 fps region, but did look worse than other versions of the game.

The loading screens i did encounter were of similar length to the Switch and Wii iterations of the game. Between 5-10 seconds tops.

Sadly, no. Nowhere, really. What i did see is that handheld play definitely has some tricks to get to playable state (Read: ''DLSS'') which was easily noticeable when i swung my melee weapon. Having said that, it looked pretty good on the LCD screen. I realize these are ideal circumstances, but it definitely did look like Cyberpunk. Shadow resolution however took a rather noticeable hit, and also ran at half framerate. Docked mitigated a lot of these issues.

No, i did see Metroid Prime 4 though for something in a similar sci-fi style.

No, not really. Handheld has some obvious gripes, but it is distinctively Cyberpunk, and more impressively, it didn't run hot. Likely because it is DLSSing to a higher resolution, but it looks alright. I preferred docked play though, that definitely is far more in line with what people have been suggesting (PS4+, near a PS4 Pro, etc...)

None. There were definitely Nintendo people out there that pertain to a certain lifestyle or one would classify as geeky/nerdy. However, i didn't pay much attention to this because i came to see a Switch 2 Experience and not a Rate-my-offline-Neckbeard-for-Online-NeoGAF event.

I didn't smell the cartridges, but since its a industrial product, i'd wager it smells industrial.

No, but she was picked often enough in Mario Kart. Take that as your will.

In the context of ''Did Nintendo sell me on a Switch 2?'' it is a pretty hard choice actually. It is clear it is working in the PS4 realm with some good niceties on them, and i love how the mice gestures work (Seriously, that's the Nintendo Magic moment right there) In terms of performance? Some games ran amazing but were PS4 quality, whilst others definitely need more time in the oven. I can see this fit inbetween the last-gen cross-gen machines and the Series S.

7.5/8.0/10. Some games were pretty impressive. Metroid Prime 4, for instance, was 1080p120 locked, but its definitely a cross-gen game. Cyberpunk in Docked is however very cool to see, albeit at 30 fps. Nintendo is also definitely re-using its pre-existing tech - Bananza very much runs on the Zelda Switch technology in look and feel.

I prefer to think that the egg has to decide what it wants to be, and as such it can only know what it wants to be when it is hatched (Tabula Rasa)

The Switch 2 handheld is a chunk heavier than the Switch 1, and the Dock resembles a toaster. So, yes, an average thrower can do this.

  • Prime was great for its performance. Cyberpunk definitely looks great on docked. Bananza impressed me for its destruction. That game has oodles of fun. Hogwarts disappointed me in Docked, that game has some serious framerate issues and if according to recent news it is running at 2K, it definitely was sub-30 FPS and with rather horrible IQ (I suspect DLSS was at play here aswell, even with this performance)
  • Yes, the controller system is rather solid. The whole unit is pretty solid as a whole, the backstand is sturdy and the magnetic Joy-Con connectors are rather incredibly satisfying to use. It literally snaps in and ironically it feels that could sell the system.
  • I couldn't compare to existing systems, but in the ideal light situations, the LCD was pretty crisp, no issues at all. However, it does have the typical LCD issues being rather reflective of light. You will need some shadow to see this properly.

I would say it was most visible in Cyberpunk and it brought colors to life. Kirby also popped, despite it looking graphically rather sub-par.

Image quality was fine and 60 FPS. Some jaggies, a few framedrops in cutscenes or when going to the overview map. I didn't ask for resolutions, but it looked good enough.

I couldn't hold the Switch 2 dock, those were sealed. I could hold the handheld however. There was a holding and photostand indeed at the end of the event, but you could hold the handheld wherever the game was available to play in handheld mode.

I like spare ribs, but i don't like the mess. So, spare ribs without the mess please.

I wrote this in the train back home. I have corrected this. Thanks for the notification.

They changed it. Its pretty good now.

I agree. Hogwarts really does look rough and the performance is definitely sub-30. Even the Nintendo employee noticed as such. In stills it looks alright, but this is the kind of port that needs more time in the oven.

Solid controller. I liked playing on it and it definitely feels Nintendo didn't cheapen out on the feel of the device.

I did see and played several games at docked. In general, it is noticeable that DLSS is at play, but i am also much in the PS4/PS4 Pro/Series S territory. The Switch 2, much like 1, can punch above its weight but it really depends on the game.

I did use the Pro controller and yes, the sticks were smooth. Sometimes a tad too sensitive, but i am sure you change this. I didn't had access to the system menu, so i can't confirm this.

It has some dips, and Docked is definitely smoother, but it is more than acceptable. Its a 30 FPS experience but this is a fun one to do against Steam Deck.

I did talk to one of the devs there and they did port the entire software stack (RedEngine) to Switch 2, noting how easy it was to do. They also noted its the same build other outlets have been reporting, so things will likely have changed and will change before release.

They are definitely better reachable. I had no problem with them as a casual, so i think its fine.

Fairly unnoticable. What does drop frames are cutscenes, big breakage of structure and (surprisingly) going to the overview map. That part dipped rather hard, from 60 to 30. I suspect Zelda tech is re-used into something it is less well suited. But the game isn't out yet, so who knows what may change!

Nope. I got a invite through a small site i have written for. I could take the off and the rest couldn't.

However, it was rather ironic that i got to playtest this, as i playtested the original Switch all the way back in 2017. That was a rather small room, coming off the unsuccesfull Wii U. Times changed.)

Yes.

Had no comparison (nor do i have a Switch myself), but it was good. It worked as intended.

  • No, not at all. They did watch over me but all were surprisingly friendly. What was cringe however was having 100-150 Nintendo folks cheering and clapping as we entered.
  • Fahdis, i am making a serious thread and i don't like these kinds of questions. I realize this is your kink but i prefer if you take this thread seriously as an adult and not as a stay-at-home-kid whose sole existence is NeoGAF.

Mario Kart definitely looked great on Handheld. But it also looks very much like a cross-gen title.

Aside the reading comprehension issues, most people just were in ordinary clothes. Some people were goth/emo-themed.

You aren't specifying a title, so i am going with the one where i thought it mattered most, Metroid and Street Fighter. MP4 is pretty much flawless, SF, is solid, but i think a real pure purist will spot a dropped frame here and there.

Same as Fahdis: I don't care about your kink and if the many Switch 2 threads with silly takes infected you, please be aware this isn't one of them. I am sharing my experience in the most non-biased way possible. Eat some pizza.

Please consider different communities if your questionnaire is that of a 8 year old.

  • Tricky one, because nobody mentioned it. Everything was in demo mode, so i would say it was on internal memory? I should have asked.
  • Load times were, atleast in Yakuza and Cyberpunk, in the region of less than 5 seconds. Loading is fast on Switch 2.

Absolute Madlad you deserve Gold.

Thank you a lot for all the insight

I remember back in 1990 at a" bash on the beach " festival in the outer banks nc. There was a trailer with snes games inside with like 8 people in it at any given time.

first time I play act raiser.

Now there are events for gaming alone with thousands of people.

How is the secreen compared to Switch OLED?
Switch OLED wasn't available, so i can't compare.
How does it feel not having a job?
The same way you feel when you don't have a job. *

* I do have a job. I took the day off to be at this event.
What games were you most impressed by and why? What games were you least impressed by and why?

What games would you be buying, based on what you played?
  • Most impressed: Bananza, because of destruction. Jamboree, innovative use of new applications, CP2077, visuals.
  • Hogwarts Legacy, severe performance issues to the point that PS360 games look fluent, Kirby. Gameplay was great, easy going, but even as a Switch 2 Edition it looks shockingly poor.
  • For party titles def Mario Party Jamboree, For casual, Bananza, for hardcore gaming, CP2077.

YOU PLAY SWITCH 1 VERSION AHA??

CURRENT GEN ASSETS OLD BUILD SHOW FLOOR

If 1000 people attended the event.
And out of those 1000 people:
- 50% said they showered once last month
- 60% said they plan to shower once this month
- 30% said they showered once last month and plan to shower once this month
- The rest doesn't believe in showers (or deodorant )

How many people did not shower last month and don't plan to shower this month either?

Let's break this down to figure out how many people fall into that "doesn't believe in showers" category.

We can use the Principle of Inclusion-Exclusion here. Let:

  • A be the set of people who showered once last month.
  • B be the set of people who plan to shower once this month.
We are given:

  • Total number of people = 1000
  • ∣A∣=0.50×1000=500
  • ∣B∣=0.60×1000=600
  • ∣A∩B∣=0.30×1000=300 (people who showered last month AND plan to shower this month)
We want to find the number of people who are in neither A nor B. This is the complement of the union of A and B, which can be represented as ∣(A∪B)c∣.

First, let's find the number of people who either showered last month OR plan to shower this month (or both), which is ∣A∪B∣. We can use the formula:

∣A∪B∣=∣A∣+∣B∣−∣A∩B∣
∣A∪B∣=500+600−300
∣A∪B∣=800

So, 800 people either showered last month or plan to shower this month.

Now, to find the number of people who did not shower last month and do not plan to shower this month, we subtract the number of people in the union from the total number of people:

Number of people who don't believe in showers = Total number of people - ∣A∪B∣ Number of people who don't believe in showers = 1000−800 Number of people who don't believe in showers = 200

Therefore, 200 people did not shower last month and don't plan to shower this month either.

Overall thoughts on SFVI? Purchase or pass?

Thank you for the gold, undeserved. Just wanting to provide something back to GAF in a rare opportunity that i could do so.

YOU PLAY SWITCH 1 VERSION AHA??

CURRENT GEN ASSETS OLD BUILD SHOW FLOOR

I am not sure why the caps are needed, take a breather.

It very well may be that i was playing the Switch 1 version enhanced for Switch 2 hardware. Just saying that Docked performance and visuals were easily the worst of the entire Experience. Given its a UE4 game, i suspect this is either an old build or simply a rather unoptimized port. Other games highlighted Switch 2's capabilities a lot better than Hogwarts did.

Redneckerz Redneckerz did my first series of questions make you moist as well? Is the Switch 2 touching your anal G-Spot? That's my kink.
  • No, not really. I am not sure why you entered the thread with that question to begin with (Apart from well, its an AMA) but its strange in any context to ask that regardless.
  • Very strange question Fahdis. I am sure you can spend your time more productively.
What is the meaning of life?
To live a life worth living.

Overall thoughts on SFVI? Purchase or pass?
Purchase on a discount, not at release. It is a decent version of the game, but it could be better. Docked image quality for instance was okay for me but wasn't as clean as other titles. I wonder if Handheld performance would be better, it did look like it would hide away some of the IQ issues that way.

How did you get to playtest it with a name like "Redneckerz"? Nintendo wouldn't have allowed you in 1/2 foot in the door haha

- Did you notice VRR working on the handheld? You say you noticed the low framerate of Cyberpunk in handheld mode, so does it mean there is no LFC in play (VRR working down to 20-24fps)? For me this would be the most underrated feature of the Switch 2. But people seem to notice the drops in handheld mode that would indicate no VRR at low framerates.

- Did you notice some slight lag using joycons vs controller the same way Switch 1 joycons add some input latency? Maybe you are not sensitive to that though. Personnaly I could notice the added lag instantly playing on Switch 1 (which is the main reason I never bought a Switch 1).

Because my screenname wasn't used to verify me, but my real name.

  • I have answered VRR in this post, and it also applies for Handheld. I did see some rather obvious DLSS usage, but this was the same old build that others have been reporting on.
  • Regular Joy-Con use, so using the thumb sticks was pretty good. When using the mouse functionality, i found that it does need a rather sturdy (So not a smooth surface) surface to be optimal. Mouse play was also done on a big table with the TV monitor in front, which is not a real common game setup if you ask me. Mouse functionality seems best used for party games (And it clicked in an instant there)

How are the buttons on the joy-cons? Clicky like on the Switch 1?
Pretty much the same yeah. It felt good.

How is HDR handled? Especially legacy SW1 games? is it a system wide option, like a version of RTX HDR?
This falls in the same realm as the VRR question - There weren't many technical staff around, only from CDPR, so i couldn't ask the real technical nitty gritty.

How did HDR look on handheld? People are saying that since it's an edge lit LCD, it won't be true HDR.

Since i couldn't ask how HDR was handled, it was rather difficult to say whether or not it was in use when i played in this mode.

I will say that CP2077 does pop in Handheld when it comes to colours, especially in neon lights, so whether or not that is HDR at work, take it as you will.

Did you observe any other gave not mentioned? BoTW? Civ? Anything else?
What was also there was:
  • Hades II
  • Civilization VII
  • Bravely Default
  • Split Fiction
  • Zelda BOTW/TOTK
  • Gamecube Classics
  • Drag X Drive
I did observe Drag X Drive using the mouse to simulate a wheelchair, Civ was barely played, Split Fiction was in a corner but looked good, didn't see anything of Hades II and i saw barely anyone going for Bravely Default or the Gamecube Classics. Zelda was played pretty often though. I didn't play Drag X Drive myself because it had the lowest interest for me, despite it being a title that utilizes the new functions of Switch 2.

And all of them are GAF members.

I already orderd one, just to have a controller at launch that has guaranteed headset support on it. so, I'm gonna test it the second I have it in my hands.
Good to have a review I can trust then. Makes sense if you care about the headphone jack. The pedals in the back aren't useless either. After Wii U Pro I thought we'd get the same stuff in the right layout +gyro. Not quite...this is their chance to nail it. With my old one still working fine I'll sit back, especially since they seemed to tighten it up after some months IIRC.

Is there anything we don't already know that hasn't been discussed to death since first week April? At this point it's all old hat. We need updated builds/ news from Nintendo on further announcements. These Switch 2 Days are just repeats of the first week of April.

How many playstation warriors were there boring everybody shitless about how their console is better than a $10,000 PC?
I paid attention to the console and the games and not so much about the things you and some other users with strange questions seem interested in. It was a press event, not a cosplay convention.

Dear OP, yes please do pass the details in a PM.
Will do.

Is Metroid Prime 4 good?

Atmosphere, exploration etc.
What i played was the demo bit that was also released on video. I played using the joy-con's, which was playable for me, but i would have preferred a Pro controller.

I found it interesting that certain things i picked up from Metroid Prime Hunters, a Nintendo DS game no less, also worked in Beyond, specifically tactis done in the Morph Ball mode. I thought that was pretty neat, despite Hunters not being made by Retro Studios.

I am sorry that sharing a hands-on experience disappointed you to the extent of making this post. I figured it would be useful because hey, only a fraction have been able to even play the machine, so i went in there and tried to test for things most others wouldn't do and ask some questions that are a little more to the side.

Truth be told i am rather confused why you made this post. Maybe i am reading too much into it and you are annoyed at something else.

I appreciate you sharing your experience with us.

I'm curious if you thought the screen was noticeably bigger than switch 1. Also if Metroid prime in hand held looked good etc. Thnx.

  • The testdrive was Mario Kart World, before one could play them at the booth. The booth, naturally, was constantly overcrowded, so i didn't bother going there in the face of many other titles. The testdrive with the new system and thus with Mario Kart World was heavily scripted: I could just do races but not do the open-world aspect. I did made a reference to Burnout Paradise, which is supposely similar to what is going on in World.
  • You can use the environment to your advantage, like going on railings to bypass obstacles or even parts of the track. For some reason i couldn't get much outside access, but it definitely eluded that there is quite a bit of freedom when racing. It also looked great on both handheld and docked so no doubt this will be a system seller.

  • The screen is noticeably bigger than Switch 1. Its a wide machine. However, because it is still as thin as Switch 1, it still fits in your backpocket. (It will stick out massively but with a t-shirt underneath covering it, it won't be visually noticeable). I thought that was kind of neat.
  • I didn't get to test that, there were very few handheld stands on that. But from a glance, looked good. However it is very clear that Prime 4 is a cross-gen title and it definitely looks at such. But its performance is bar none, extremely well done.
WAY BIGGER ONLY PLAYED METROID WITH MOUSES DOCKED 120 FPS ARMAZING
Can you kindly please forfeit answering questions that are directed at me, let alone in CAPS and written in dyslexic? Thanks.

Did you got to try to hold the joycons sideways to play something? Is the any improvement over how the switch joy cons felt?

Tried to use the back paddle for something? How it felt?
