Damn.

Poor Coloner Tigh, that was heart wrenching, but it had to be done. But man it was a delight to see some action, some proper space action, after the relatively lax previous episodes.
I had to stand up and applaud the moment the Galactica suddenly appeared in-atmosphere like a baws. The effects are fucking stellar for something this old, and it makes my mind boggle what they could do with a sequel show with just the same budget. That fucking bagpipe theme gave me the chills.

This is the best science-fiction show, ever

Adama like a fucking boss ready to go down with his ship, fighting off four base ships at once (I don't think they've ever squared off against so many). Then out of nowhere, the Pegasus swoops in and it was as if the two ships bro-fisted.

I guess Gaius had his redemption moment as well, as a broken shell of the man he once was. Thank you, Gaeta!
(Even though Gaius survived anyway :p)

At least Pegasus destroyed in an epic manner, and it looks like it'll once again make the chase hectic.

Poor Starbucks, but I guess it made sense that there wasn't a second Cylon hybrid, or else they wouldn't have been so torn up over the loss of the first Cylon hybrid.
Poor Tigh, it was a bit of a bitter sweet ending to the whole affair.

YESSSSS, SHAVE THAT MOUSTACHE OFF!
FUCK YEAH, WE'RE BACK TO THE AWESOMENESS!

That moment in Episode 4....I was literally up cheering at my TV.

Such an incredible moment. And I love Hot Dogs "Well, this is going to be different...." line.

Alright, about to watch this episode. here's kinda what I'm predicting:

I'm expecting a pretty non-eventful epsiode. I have a feeling they'll focus on Galactica now for some time, and by the sound of the title they'll probably have some military courts to punish all those who worked with the Cylons in the last couple of episodes. If they focus on the Cylons, I'm expecting it to be about what they should do - continue the chase or give up?

Impressions as I go along:
Yeah, I guess it's time to execute all the traitors now.
Haha, oh poor Gaius, that little dreamisode he had confused me a bit, but theen it all made sense :p
Heh, imagine waking up to a Centurion lmao.

Fuck yes!
Roslin&Tom teamup!

Poor Gaeta, he hasn't told anyone but the Admiral about what went down?
He's going to get a lot of flack for his behaviour, even though he was the reason the rebellion won.

I guess they'll find out now that he was the informant.

Poor Gaius, he's going to bone so many cylons :p
Love how the sixes play a crucial role in this episode.

Awww poor fat lee trying to lose weight.

Gaius swooping Caprica Six off her feet and living to see another day!
I want to see just how low he's going to go.

Man, all this talk about how Gaeta is a traitor, when we the audience know he's not, is kinda annoying. It'll piss me off if they go ahead and kill him.

There we go, and now I bet they all feel pretty silly about the whole Circle business.
So much for justice.

Damn, it was Tom who set the whole thing in action. Nice, he's got a back bone.

This episode is my favorite of all time.

This episode was pretty amazing.

I loved how they established a pretty good reason for the Cylons to continue on-course in the steps of BSG. Starbucks is pretty annoying, she's back to being the tough bitch.

Final five talk is pretty interesting.
Giving some credence to Gaius being a Cylon (that notion itself is pretty crazy).

Hybrid talk as well is pretty amazing, so much mythology thrown into this episode.
The Cylon disease was pretty interesting, presumably caused by the final five.

I really doubt that Gaius is one of the final five.

The music was top-notch during the Gaius scenes btw, I kept waiting for the boring human drama to be over so I could see and hear more of Gaius awesomeness. Tigh & Starbucks just kept being whiny ass haters - so glad to see Adama school the two of them.

Gaius killing the one Six on the infected ship was pretty crazy, as is him withholding information yet again :p

Oh shit!
To be continued!

I hope Athena isn't infected :(

This episode is def. in my top ten.

Watched the follow-up, and it was a bit of a let-down tbh.
Felt awfully short.

I can't stop watching!
Last one today:
What the fuck, what the fuck, why is there someone the Admiral know on a raider ship?

Oh, it was just a dream, thought a Cylon had somehow smuggled onboard the ship. Ho ho, and she's sleeping with gaius and Six? Hahaha, that's an interesting menage a trois.

Damn, it's starting to look like the Cylon attack wasn't entirely unprovoked. Or maybe not, but it's obvious a lot more than just a scout mission happened before the attack on the colonies. I like that, it paints the Cylons as slightly less evil (sure, they genocided humanity, almost, but humanity would do the same).

The flashback has really turned Adama's motivation upside down a bit.

Oh shit, the Raiders were intentionally missing the escaped dude's raider ship. He's an infiltrator human!

Blitzed through episodes 9-12, and I've kinda noticed a minor dip in quality.
I presume this is where most viewers started to feel that the mythological aspect started to take a larger part (to their disliking), and I agree to a degree.

With that said, they have been some very good episodes, and the 11-12 episode parter was excellent!

No fucking way Gaius is one of the final five, I refuse to believe it. Brother Cavill is still the coolest Cylon line.

Episode 13 is crazy as fuck.

BSG is easily, EASILY, the best sci-fi series ever. Nothing comes close.

Lets just dead this right here.

BSG is good. But it is not the best sci fi show ever. No way no how. Stop it. B5 shits on BSG, even with its bad 5th season it shits on BSG.

Agent Dormer

Dirty Drinking Smoker
I just got my girlfriend (terithegreat) into the series last week. We're halfway into season two (made it past "Black Market" and through "Scar"). I've been enjoying her guesses at who the Cylons are. I'm really looking forward to the reveals in the next few episodes.

I love BSG so much, ending never bothered me as much as some others and even if it did it wouldn't take away what I loved about getting there. I enjoy reading this thread though, remembering vicariously what it was like when I watched it for the first time.

I don't think BSG is the single greatest sci-fi show ever, but I liked it more than B5.

My personal rankings:

1) Battlestar Galactica
2) The Twilight Zone
3) Star Trek: Deep Space Nine
4) Star Trek: The Original Series
5) The X-Files
6) Doctor Who
7) Cowboy Bebop
8) Firefly
9) Star Trek: The Next Generation
10) Futurama

Episode 18, season 3:

Holy shit, this lawyer is probably going to be one of the final five. He's too good to just be a human.

Oh, and RIP Kara.

I just started watching this recently too and I'm at almost the exact same episode as you, OP. It's not a bad show. Definitely better than I was expecting from a SyFy series. I'm a little worried about where it's all going and what the explanation will be for everything that's going down, especially since I've seen people compare the ending to Lost's ending.

The episodes, Pegasus and Exodus are the two most intense and amazing piece of storytelling in not just sci fi shows but in any media.

Eh I wouldn't go that far. It's not touching the heavy hitters like The Wire, Breaking Bad or Game of Thrones. Sci-Fi wise it's definitely one of the best, it has really been good.
But Battlestar Galactica IS a heavy hitter.
Breaking Bad is a fun to watch show with terrific acting and cinematography but that's all it is. There is no deep narrative structure, underlying themes or sense of immersion into the world like you have in The Wire and Battlestar Galactica. Game of Thrones is great and it will be even better in the later seasons but the season 1 and season 2 of GoT are no match for Battlestar Galactica's first two season.

Yep, yep.

List wars time now, gonna watch season 4 after I've re-watched Razor, and see how that goes.

Season ranking
Straight up, without taking into account the differing lengths of the seasons (S1 includes the miniseries):

  1. Season 2 - On account of it having so many excellent episodes
  2. Season 1 - Because of how tense and hectic they managed to keep it, and how it hooked me on
  3. Season 3 - Well, it wasn't bad, it was actually quite good, but it dipped in quality after a particular point and while it did reach the heights of some S1/S2 moments, these were few and far in-between

Best 2-parters
Oh boy there's so much to chose from here, but I've done my best:

  1. Pegasus, Resurrection Ship, Resurrection Ship part 2 - Okay, not strictly a two-parter, but these three episodes were so closely tied together that I had to count all three of them.
  2. Exodus Part 1 and 2 - This was such an amazing two-parters, so early on in Season 3, the blew away the early episodes of the past seasons (bar 33). If only the rest of season 3 could have held up to the high standards set by this two-parter.
  3. Kobold's Last Gleaming Part 1 and 2 - Amazing two-parter, and if it wasn't for some rough moments, I'd have put it in as the second best 2-parter.

Best season finale
Here, I disregard the 1st part of the two-parters that make up the season finale, to better judge the final moments of the season.

  1. Kobold's Last Gleaming - Hands down the best twist I've ever seen, I was shocked when you-know-what happened.
  2. Lay Down Your Burdens - Gaius triumphing like a champ, and weaseling his way into power was wonderful to witness, and provided for a superb parallel for the third season finale. It also introduced my favorite Cylon model.
  3. Crossroads - There are some parts that I really disliked, but at least they had Gaius more broken than ever, and I absolutely loved the little courtroom drama they had going (successfully).

Stand-out, stand-alone episodes
In no particular order:

33 - The undisputed best episode of BSG.
Flesh and Bone - Gave us an interesting insight into the minds of the Cylons, and one Cylon in particular
The Farm - Adama like a boss
Scar - Starbuck's best episode
Torn - Gaius, gaius, gaius
Taking a Break from All Your Worries - The best Baltar episode

Fat
Adama was the best thing about S3.

That's the biggest mystery of the show to me. We never see the arch, the sudden decline into
donuts
.

Season 3 is also when I realized Colonel Tigh is the best character in the show.

Tigh was the only character I can think of who actually got better over the course of the show, while just about every other character got worse (except Bill Adama who remained consistently awesome).

Now imagine that you'd been seeing ads for the whole week doing nothing but setting up that moment as a legitimate reveal. :)

I gasped, and then laughed my ass off.

Watched Season 4, episodes 1 to 10, which I think pretty fairly concludes the entire series if one were to ignore the last 5 minutes :p

The show kinda got silly with the final fives being that rag-tag bunch of dislikeable characters, but there were some excellent moments so far that I think is easily up there with the best of S1-3.

Such as episode 9&10 - that had both of the Adama's best moments so far (Lee finally manning up properly, and Bill finally breaking down completely). They were tight-paced, rich in mythology without pulling too much shit out of the ass (which they did, to a degree, but it was forgiven), and had some excellent space-action going on!

Anyway, now I'm kinda left wondering where they'll go next with the remaining 10 episodes. I guess make it clear whether or not Kara really is the final Cylon (I mean, she did technically lead them all to their doom by guiding them to radioactive barren-wasteland Earth), and what the heck is that special about the Final Five. I guess they gotta deal with the remaining Cylon models as well, and perhaps Gaius little Centaurion rebellion that he might be brewing. I was pretty pleased to see some of my earlier predictions strike true (the cylons splitting up over fundamental philosophical differences and have a little civil war), but I really underestimated just how awesome of a Cylon Cavill really was.

Top-tier Cylon right there.

Pete Carroll Owns Me
One of the best shows I've seen prior to the Scar episode. It's all down hill from there though. Never been so disappointed in a series.

Oh, I strongly disagree, it just so happened that there were more mediocre episodes in the latter seasons, but numbers-wise they had just as many excellent episodes as in S1 (thanks to S2 and S3 being thrice as big).

I beat OP and just finished the series.

Never realized that's where the
vomit
gif came from.

So yeah, season 4 has totally dropped quality-wise, aside from episodes 9 and 10 which imho are up there among the best episodes of S1-3.

Yep, S4E9-10, are some of the best BSG episodes, you heard it right.

Season 4, Episode 11

Shit got real.
Holy shit this episode is real.

Dee nooo :(
Holy shit that moment got to me, it made me sit up out of the chair.
Starbucks died :(
Adama fucking raging out, and here I thought he couldn't go deeper in his despair.
And ellen is the fifth - which makes no sense whatsoever.

I guess the five are the five sole earth cylons who managed to get resurrected, all the other ones died. The question is where they go when they die (if anywhere, as I presume they're different technologically from the other cylons). I guess the technology can also be used for humans, or starbucks is yet another generations of cylons.

Season 4, Episode 12-13

Fuck yeah, mutiny time!
Lol, Cally and Hotdog time.
Guess the loss of a leg turned Gaeta into a little bitch.

Watching the final two episodes of BSG, let's get this over with!

Impressions below, to be updated as I go along:

Episode 18

I have a feeling that a number seven survived, and happens to be Kara's father. That's how she could resurrect, because she's half-cylon.

Hybrid child shenanigans!
Poor BSG :(
So old and broken up.

Cylon homeworld!
Man, I am expecting a clusterfuck of a battle.

Fuck yes, tell them like it is Adama - fuck the prophesies!
Poor Athena, pretty crazy cylon maritial problems I'm surprised we hadn't seen up until last episode. Boomer you bitch.

Damn, cylon sacrificing herself for a human.
Man, Gaius has come a long way.
It's certainly been a long journey, with plenty of changes.

I wonder if Caprica Six still sees Gaius-Angel, and I hope he shows up for Gaius again.
Bitch-Boomer back at it.

Nice to see Chief locked up, it was a totally bitchy thing what he did.

More bitch-boomer.

Gaius, my favorite human by far. Time for him to solve some mysteries scientist style!
Holy shit, Sam is BSG's hybrid!
I predict they are going to jump into the fray :p

Helo telling Kara what's real. Thank god.
Oh, the fabled Cylon detector test.

Of course Gaius blew the lid lol
Awww, Adama breaking down a second time, at least it makes just as much sense now.
I hope they smash the ship into the Cylon homeworld or something - that would be spectacular!
Speaking of the devil, damn that mothership/homeworld looks funky - poor Hera.

Sam is about to jump, onto next episode!

The final episode(s)

Here we go, let's try to sum up 4 seasons of plot in 1 minute :p Man, to watch this without having seen the prior episodes should be a crime.

Oh shit, Caprica in it's pristine condition!
Man, it's so crazy to see pre-catastrophe Gaius again.

WHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAT
Gaius has a kid?

Man, Roslin looks great.

Haha, man, Lee and Kara meeting up for the first time.
Oh, it's his dad, not kid.
That makes so much more sense. Man, Gaius is a dick.

Awwww, roslin's sisters died. And her father.
Back to the sad present.

Poor Gaius, can't have had an easy time with her whispering in his ears. I guess this fella is Gaius brother then?

Damn, that Cylon mothership is cool. Boomer being a big bitch like usual. Man, Chief turned into a bitch ass.

The music is so amazing during this little Adama sequence.
Lee turning more and more lawyer-like, but I'm loving it!

Still holding onto my speculation, Kara is a half-cylon - the first of their kind.
She brings an end to humanity, but not literally - by being the first in the line towards a half-human/half-cylon:ity.

Lee spitting truth to Baltar.
Hahaha, what the hell is a pigeon doing in Lee's home.

YESSSS, FINAL BATTLE OF BSG IS GOING TO BE SO GLORIOUS - OFF TO A RESCUE MISSION!

Cavill being a straight-up machine, love him.
Caprican sushi, nice. Oooooh, Ellison is the dude who was part of the Quorom, and then shot by Zarek.
Man, love this episode.

Totally expecting to see Gaus to volunteer for the suicide mish.
Roslin and Adama arm in arm, man the feels are strong with this one.

Damn, black hole.
I hope they use the BSG to push the colony into the black hole.

Love these flashbacks, BSG Caprica is so much more interesting than the Caprica in the Caprica series.

That's where there puking scene is from!
I have reached popular culture nirvana!

Poor Gaius' brother. Poor Caprica, trying to woo that selfish dude.
Ooooh, it's not his brother.

Dang, Kara speaking up to Adama.

So many feels, it's finally ending.
I hope Baltar survives yet another day, and doesn't die in action :(
I am so eager to see the BSG jump, this is crazy tense.
The music and atmosphere is excellent.

Lasers everywhere, that fucking sackpipe, so glorious.
Oh, shiiit, they did ram the BSG into the Cylon Colony!
Holy shit.

Oh man, I have a feeling taking those helmets off will be a mistake.

Ahhhh, that's why they FTL jumped the scout ships out, to nuke the whole thing from the other side.
Ingenious!

Love the old-ass cylons fightning the new models.

Caprica and/or Gaius are going to die :(
Holyyyyyyy shit, Caprica and Gaius in the head at the same time.
God damn.

Athena being cold-hearted.
Boomer had it coming though, but man the "I owe you one"-line was paid off.

Mission accomplished!

Oh shit, the vision is coming true.
Cavill being a boss.

God, I love the Opera House music.
Everything makes sense now!

Gaius is going to bite it after his speech, I can feel it :(
Oh, he actually saved the day, he actually saved humanity and cyclonity.

Tory is going to screw everything up.
Of course.

Oh shit, here comes to the nukes.
Oooooh, the melody is the coordinates.

Flashback. Jump. Everyone's alive!
Looks like the ship is leaking air though.
God, Cally still annoys me.

Haha, back to earth again!
It's not all ruined?

Oooooh, so all of this took place before our own society started up.
Oh, I see, this Earth is not their "Earth" - it's our Earth.

Dat ending.
Dat ending music.

Banned
I totally agree. I used to watch the show religiously, then I moved overseas and missed the last half-season. I came back and everyone was talking about how they didn't like the ending, so I didn't watch it.

Just watched it a week ago and I was thinking, what were people thinking? That was a great ending.

Everything was neatly concluded, every character arc finally coming to a satisfactory end, and the only thing left to a mystery was the sort of thing that would have been ruined by an explanation.

Best Sci-Fi series, and even with a bit of a dip in quality post S2, it held up until the very end.
I would rank the final episodes up there with 33 and the Mini series, and all the other top-tier episodes of the show.

Man, I was lucky to enjoy this series without getting spoilered.
Seconding whoever it was that said that the music keeps getting better.

By the end of Season 4, it was aural bliss.

End of line.

It's a production in-joke. During the miniseries, when there was a budget crunch, one of the prop-guys started "cutting corners" as a way to goof on the situation.

When the show was picked up for series - they had to maintain continuity.

It got annoying real fast :)
