BSG is my favorite series of all time. I have seen The Wire, I have seen Deadwood, I have seen The Sopranos, I am watching Breaking Bad, I am watching Madmen.

There is no series that will take me on a journey like BSG did. From the humble beginnings of trying to escape Cylon raiders every 33 minutes, to the grand symphony of the Opera House become manifest. It had flaws, it was during the writer's strike, but ultimately it came together so beautifully.

"Perfection. That's what it's about. It's those moments. When you can feel the perfection of creation. The beauty of physics, you know, the wonder of mathematics. The elation of action and reaction, and that is the kind of perfection that I want to be connected to."

I was exposed to Perfection watching BSG.

On sunday night, my friends and I played the Battlestar Galactica boardgame (they are all fans of the show). The game was so good, that I had to check out the show. I am now half way through the first season.

Beginning of S3 is hilarious. Everyone's dirty and grumpy and pissed off up on Galactica. Lee is fat, Admiral Adama looks like shit . It's great.

That's brilliant, I just watched 'Razor' last night and was hoping
fat lee
would return. No such luck but I was overjoyed to see
old-school cylons
.

I just wanted to say how much I love the fan service in the boxing episode of season 3.
lee, starbuck--beat the shit out of each other, now kiss while your cuckolded partners look on. So good, especially if like me you wanted to see Adama/starbuck get together
.

I am on S3 E3. I just started S1 two weeks ago. This show is amazing and I should have watched it years ago. I know it is going to take a turn for the worse (according to most) but so far I've loved it.

That's not fanservice. That's character development.

Just finished Razor. Definitely wished I'd heeded everyone's advice and watched it earlier. It's definitely kind of a lull coming off the end of season 3.

Season 4 question (I can't remember when it is, exactly. Quite late though):
Was a reason ever given for what happened to Dee?

Earth being burned up, moral at the lowest point and just the desire to stop fighting and going on. Therefor she ended it all on high note. The date with Lee.

Yeah finished the rewatch a few weeks ago. Man S4 is all around horrible the only redeeming qualities were
Gaeta's mutiny, but even these episodes had a too drastic change of characters. Not necessarily Gaeta but definitely Zarach and his sudden power monger moves felt to come out of nowhere especially since the developments in S3
.

Really just an all out disappointing Season, in terms of pacing, overall story and overall feel of the show.

Onto season three with a pizza right now at this moment!
Impressions will follow, edited into this post:

S3E1:
I was kinda worried about the transition from being continous escape, to a more insurrection-focused story, but the writers really pulled it off with this season's starter. They did a great job showing just how deep in despair even the strong characters of the show were, and how they were willing to do anything to hit back at the cylons for putting them in this position. I am a tiny bit confused by the behaviour of the Cylons though, as it seems like the priest dudes who were proclaimed atheists last season are the driving force behind the push of their belief onto humanity (at any cost), but I guess they are mocking the rest of the Cylons for their beliefs (I presume most of the Cylons are the cause for this, Caprica 6 and asian cylon excluded).

Poor Gaius, he turned into a bit of a damp squib, probably busy screwing around with Caprica Six and not giving a damn about what goes on, I kinda fear for his life now but then he's not been particularly exciting so far so I'm not entirely sure I even care.

Fat Apollo was hilarious, I still can't get used to that moustache on Adama.

Mannnnnn, the finale and final season left a sour taste in my mouth...but the earlier stuff is so good. But who knows you might dig the ending.

Enjoy!

Moving onto S3E2 now because I hate cliffhangers, impressions will be edited into this post once I've finished the episode.
I guess I'll also make a couple of predictions:
I seriously doubt they'll resolve this occupation plot this quickly, and have a feeling things will go horribly wrong, so they can draw out the insurrection to maybe episode 5-6 (which I honestly don't mind, it's a nice change of pace).
Considering how their two ships aren't exactly in ideal battle preparedness, I have a feeling a lot of people will die.

I also hope Kara will escape soon, as it looks like things might turn nasty at her end :(

Okay, I was pretty taken aback by everything they showed.
Looks like the priest dudes are just mocking the rest of Cylons, and are just interested in subjugating humanity in whatever way enables them to better control them. I do love how the priest-Cylons are the most sceptical of the bunch, and I wouldn't mind seeing schisms in the cylon leadership caused by that. I also found the mention of the Centurians being unable to differentiate between numbered Cylons interesting - I highly doubt they threw that out there without somehow hinting at there possibly being a widespread Cylon rebellion at some point in the future (possibly led by caprica six and boomer).

That baby that popped out of nowhere was an incredibly insidious move, in some ways worse than what I thought he'd do to Starbucks. Now that she has bonded with the child to a degree, I wonder what she'll do next. I could see her developing a stockholm syndrome of some sort, but I predict her killing the cylon-daddy the moment she gets the chance - and then leave new caprica (plus child) with the fleet.

Cally is kinda boring, chief is awesome, and fun interaction between the (ex) VP and Rosalinda (I guess he'll be the new VP once they get off the planet). At least Gaius showed some back bone this time around, which I applaud him for, even if it was for naught. Still worry about the dude, if humanity win this little insurrection (which they will at some point), I imagine he'll be off with his darling Six (maybe join her rebellion, if that'll ever happen) rather than rejoin the rest of the human fleet.

Adama being a baws like usual, shutting up fatty Lee proper.

Kinda surprised they went with another cliffhanger, and while they are good, they are kinda making it hard watching one episode at a time :p.
I highly doubt Rosalinda died, so it's more likely the gunfire was from rebels ambushing the cylons, but you never know.

Just a small factoid, but the actor who plays Felix Gaeta in BSG does the voice for L in Death Note. So if you haven't watched DN, well...they're totally unrelated shows but both are great.

Holy shit, I had no idea.
I've seen an episode or two of the english dub of Death Note, and thought the voice was pretty great.

I didn't even know about this thread lol

Started watching recently. Got to Season 3 ep 5 yesterday.

Season 2 was amazing to me and 3 is off to a great start.

Oh, best
Time skip
sequence I've ever seen.

FAT LEE IS BEST LEE.

Season 3 is best season. The
escape from New Caprica and psychological fallout afterward
are just so well done, and the season finale.

WHAAAAAAA!?

I just started season 2 on the PS3 via Amazon, but it doesn't seem to be HD and I can't find the HD version via search. Anybody know if it can be forced?

Edit: I guess it still goes to HD eventually, but it sure seems to take a long time compared to season 1.

Holy shit, that's awesome. Had no idea.

Death Note's dub was excellent, watched the entire series with it.

I'm down to the last 5 episodes of Season 4. What a ride it's been. Although I gotta admit, I was ready to ditch it around Season 3 - it was getting a little too soap opera-esqe.

OMG, Pegasus. Watching Resurrection Ship now.

Edit: damn, I guess Amazon Prime doesn't do extended episodes :(

I finished it not long ago and I recommended it to my girlfriend. She can't put it down, she says it's the best tv series she's ever seen and possibly ever made. I'll have to agree with her on that.

Eh I wouldn't go that far. It's not touching the heavy hitters like The Wire, Breaking Bad or Game of Thrones. Sci-Fi wise it's definitely one of the best, it has really been good.

I am talking Sci-Fi, can't really compare it to the ones you mentioned ;) apples and oranges

BSG is easily, EASILY, the best sci-fi series ever. Nothing comes close. Given pretty much all of SyFy's original content before and after, it's no small coup that they were able to pull it off.

On comparisons to The Wire and shows of that ilk, apples & oranges yes, but while I can freely acknowledge that The Wire is the superiorly crafted show, pretty much across the board, BSG, in my eyes, tells a more engrossing story. I've said this before but there were stretches of The Wire where I just didn't care, no matter how much I appreciated what Simon and co. were doing. Rewatching some of the series that remained the case. BSG on the other hand absorbed me in a way few shows ever have. Tears were shed, and that almost never happens.

I like Firefly and Star Trek: TNG basically as much as BSG, but yeah, BSG is right at the top of sci-fi TV I think.

and just in case it hasn't been expressed enough over the past decade, Firefly went out way too soon =[ RIP

Amazing ride it was - finished it last night. Is Caprica worth a watch?

Depends.

The style and tone of the show is, how shall I put it without offending Caprica's fans, very different.

It's not quite more of the same BSG that you know and love.

The 1st episode will give you tone whiplash if you're fresh out of a BSG viewing.

Still a "worthy" addition to the lore of BSG though. It's a pity it got cancelled early.

This Portlandia Battlestar Galactica sketch is hilarious - we can all relate:

JUST ONE MORE!

I'd say it is. Its not the same feel as BSG, but it does expand on the universe quite a bit. The show starts unfolding the layers, and its cancelled. So be forewarned, though the last 5 minutes pretty much tie everything together.

Alright, got myself my post-workout meal in front of me, and another episode of BSG as reward.

Will update this post with my impressions (you can see what I predicted would happen in my S3,E2 post - so we'll see if I was right or not):

The tension is unbearable!
The Cylons escalated things to potential genocide, and Gaius kinda is right - they have been wasting their time trying to force humanity into cooperating with them. I'm certain the mission will be a success, but I bet a number of civilians will die in the process. What I have no idea will happen is what comes afterwards - will the Cylons continue to hunt humanity down or will they cease their hunt?
Can't be the latter, as that would kinda remove any tension from the show, unless they figure out another way of doing so. Now that more and more cylons are starting to doubt themselves, their cause, and develop rather unCylon tendencies, it makes me wonder if they mightn't try to go for a Cylon civil war of sort - between the side that wish to leave humanity be and the side that wants them destroyed. That might be a way of involving humanity again, as they might realize that fighting alongside the pro-Humanity side might be their best chance of survival, but we'll see.

Seeing as this was a two-parter, I must of course continue watching the show :p
