If Bush is not re-elected will he actually step down?

Given the imminent arrival of the John Titor future I wonder if Bush is actually prepared to step down as President if he is not reelected. Will he try and find some underhanded way to remain in power, leading to the civil war? Obviously, this is different than how it happend to Titor, but we've already veered from his timeline anyway, so while the ends may be the same the way we get there could be different.

*I hope everyone takes this with a huge grain of salt :D *

I know you're joking about the John Titor business, but in all seriousness I'll be surprised if we go to bed on Nov. 2 knowing who the new President is.

Well, I don't mean some rather nebulous voting issue like we had in 2000. Even if there is a clear and decisive Kerry victory I wonder if he'd try and find some way to weasel out of it - no doubt through the lame duck session and the Patriot Act.

Well considering Cheney has threatened to attack America if they lose...

Bush already has 4 fleets of ships ready to set sail from the coast of Cuba and right into Miami, New York, Texas and California, in case he loses the election. The only hope will be to run up north to Canada and form a resistance.

I doubt Bush is going to step down without a fight. Actually I can see a long legal battle come this november by both parties over the vote counts.

It's called "continuity of the administration during wartime", kiddies. Read the Emergency Powers Act. I'm personally surprised that Dubya even let us have an election this year.

A fight to the death could go a long way in settling any election conflict. I hope Fidel Castro offers to send troops again. That'd make me smile, and laugh. Oh how I'd laugh and laugh!

We are not legally at war, nor is the homeland under any particular duress - thus the Emergency Powers Act (War Powers Act) doesn't even come close to applying.

Bush isn't LETTING us have an election, he lacks the legal power to prevent us from having them. Silly conspiracy boy....

Go on thinking that way if it makes you sleep easier at night. You think a nuke going off in an American city wouldn't put us under "any particular duress"?

Wait and see.

Sure, and an alien invasion would allow it as well. However that is not the situation today. Now if you want to pull some hypothetical from your ass and use that as a point of debate - no sale, try again.

Bush can just declare Kerry to be an "enemy combatant" and lock him up and throw away the key. "I'm sure he was a threat to Amurca," Bush'll say, and, "God told me to do it."

People said the same exact thing about Clinton, when his second term was coming to a close.
