Nintendo should since they seem the most able to get good games out of them (Bayo 2, Astral Chain, W101).

Any other acquisition would be a waste imo.

That was just as much Microsoft's dropping the ball as it was Platinum. They'd never made an online game before, and the scale was far beyond anything they'd attempted before. And that absolutely was known by Xbox Team before they made the deal to publish the game with them.
I just can't believe they showcased the game so many times. They kept using it as a reason to buy an Xbox, when they had to know the game was a mess.

I like a majority of their games. But if I was looking at it from a business perspective I don't think they are a good get.
Historically the main problem with Platinum is that even their good games tend to sell rather poorly or just ok. They have to whore themselves out to anyone willing to give them money because even when they make a 90+ metascore game it usually isn't a massive financial success. The only big hit they've had was Nier Automata and that was a Yoko Taro game as much as it was a Platinum game.

But if I'm in "I don't care if this makes money YOLO" mode then for sure. Get them and throw as much money towards Kamiya as he wants.

I think it was a money/time thing that ultimately MS no longer wanted to commit to.

Perhaps what Platinum last showed Phil was not impressive enough...who knows.

No, until their norm is to do games of the quality of Bayonetta 1 and Vanquish. But their norm is to do average or bad games like Babylon's Fall, Star Fox Zero, Korra, TMNT Mutants in Manhattan or Transformers Devastation.

But well, if MS has the possibility they'll bite.

Sometimes you need to just keep the lights on in order to make the next masterpiece...Platinum has always given that starving artist vibe..

They would need a lot of oversight and neither Sony or Microsoft have a large local presence. They'd be better off getting picked up by Sega or "reunited" with Capcom if someone really was to acquire them.

They'd probably find a way to funnel money from the acquisition to a gsme for Nintendo. It's what they do best

slow down those tits bud no one touches this company until they have released the complete Astral Chain trilogy with an Anime series,Super Nier Automatron,at least 7 Bayonetta games with Rosa + Balder Manga, 3 animated movies( plus a christmas special) , playable Viola on Smash, Bayonetta branded cereal, coloring book and many cheap collectibles.

Microsoft hasn't shown anything but sheer incompetence when dealing with Platinum

Aren't they just known as the failed scale bound developer by now in modern times?

After Scalebound, MS will not go near them. Sony are strategic in their acquisitions and i dont see what Plat would add.
Even Embracer and Tencent are giving them a wide berth.

They put too much faith/trust in them for far too long with very little to show for time/dollars. Business decision was made by Phil.

Nah, they have regressed. Not the same studio that churned out Bayonetta, Metal Gear Rising and Bayonetta 2 almost 10 years ago.
While I don't think Sony or MS should buy them Wonderful 101, Bayonetta 2 and Astral Chain were all great if you like the genre and Bayonetta 3 is about to score a 90+ metacritic and sell 5 million copies on Switch.

Platinum need to stay with Nintendo. Make a new IP next then Bayonetta 4.

do they own Bayonetta? because if so yes. weren't both games like 10/10?? I really thought Wonderful 101 was great and has some value IP wise.

Are they at severe financial risk or facing costly harassment litigation? If so, then Phil will pick up the phone. He buys on the dip.

Depends... What IPs do they own?

You can't buy studios based on "talent" alone, people leave or retire eventually. Also nothing guarantees that they will keep performing the same way after purchase, that they will assimilate the culture of the buying company, etc.

The Platinum brand is basically worthless in terms of mass appeal.

I don't see a reason to buy them other than fanboyism which would be pretty hard to explain to the board.

So many of their games are among my favorites. Bayonetta 1 & 2 are visually stunning on Switch and run at 60 fps. Wonderful 101 and Metal Gear Rising are two of my favorites on Steam Deck and show such creative gameplay. Can't explain their recent slump but clearly there are diamonds to be mined there.

I would, but I'd insist on them creating something which will sell well outside their typical brawler action game audience without losing their Japanese touch. They've never had their Metal Gear or Resident Evil, despite the fact that they clearly have the experience and talent to pull it off.

No, they're pretty stable, as evidenced by the fact that they're currently making their first large scale self-funded and self-published game.

if they're washed up then it seems like the kind of purchase that Microsoft goes for.

I hope they don't buy them, because that would mean otherwise.

Which one is that?

Some really shitty takes here.

To answer the thread, nope. PlatinumGames are at their best when granted creative freedom, I actually want the opposite of them being acquired. I want them to succeed at self publishing so they can make all the batshit crazy ideas they wish to make

"If it looks too good to be true, it probably is". Classic tale of showing a game way, way too early. There was no actual/ working game behind the facade of the flashy demos.

No they don't have a great track record. For every decent game there's a one or two bad ones.

Hell yeah I'd buy Platinum. Like sure, recently they haven't been at their best, but they're a studio capable of churning out bangers. Remove the worry from them that the sky is about to fall on their heads and I'd like to think they would be back to their best version of themselves.

But then again I'd just tell them to re-release Anarchy Reigns so what do I know

I mean…if you task them with creating an exclusive kick ass action series in the vein of Bayonetta and Devil May Cry?

I don't see why you wouldn't. But that's only if everyone stays.

Probably not. Nintendo would make more sense to me. Bayonetta 2 is amazing, The Wonderful 101 is wonderful, Astral Chain is fantastic and Bayonetta 3 looks like yet another hit.

For those that don't know, Platinum Games (Hideki & co.) created/developed;
DMC
Okami
Viewtiful Joe
Bayonetta
Vanquish
Wonderful 101
Astral Chain
Nier Automata

Give them some credit

I remain a big fan of them despite some disappointing games like TMNT. If they were acquired by Sony or Microsoft I'd be very interested in seeing what direction they would take such as making new IP or taking on something already established in Sony or Microsoft's catalogue and putting their spin on it.

Personally I had hoped to see them or Rocksteady make a Matrix game.

I hope nobody needs to buy anyone but I wish them the best. Not sure why they are getting so much hate here.

No, Kamiya would tell me to fuck off and block me on Twitter if we ever had a disagreement with the games.
I heard Kamiya did the same thing to Phil Spencer when Microsoft did try to acquire Platinum. Don't take it personally, LOL!!!

Man what, I would buy them in a heart beat. I think Sony could whip them in to shape. I recall hearing that their studios collab in some forum or fashion.

Image HFW environments and animations and Neir Automata like combat. A godly combination.

Platinum is downbad at the moment, but I have faith that their still capable of greatness.
