Unless the murderer was also an idiot, you'd be joining his first victim
I don't think there's a sum that would allow me to soundly sleep at night.
I'm haunted from smaller moral misgivings in my past. I could not imagine letting a killer go free.
What if they kill again? That's blood on my hands.
I don't know. If someone is willing to commit murder AND willing to pay me off not to be a witness, I would be afraid that they would be willing to kill me as well if I refused.

$2.25 million after taxes over the course of 45 years or $25 million over 10 years. It depends on who it is and my odds for disappearing quickly.
Now let's paint the scenario:
Say I found out Bill Gates daughter committed murder and I am the only person that witnessed it and no cameras are around. All Bill has to do is pull a few strings and hire me as his personal finance manager formally for the $50K a year for 45 years. If the situation is dire then all Bill can just hit me with a charitable $25 million donation and let me disappear forever.
Everybody has price.
Wait, does the murderer know I'm the sole witness? Why would he pay me? Shouldn't he just go straight and shoot/stab/strangle me instead and save the cash?

If you're the sole witness, then you're likely to get murdered yourself. It would be a lot cheaper than paying someone off.
That depends on what kind of threats I'd face for not taking the bribe in the first place.
But who will kill the hitman when he threatens to expose you?You guys. You get a bunch of money, then you hire a hitman to kill the murderer. Simple.
I'd take the payoff, whatever it is, then report the murder anyway and ask for witness protection.
There's no honor among thieves, and i'm not a criminal anyway?
