If you were the sole witness of a murder, how much would it take to pay you off?

i would never accept money to let someone get away with murder.

Would prolly with other types of crime (but i wouldn't come cheap, that i assure you), but not murder.

You've got Bill Gates by the balls, and that's all you ask for? That's a shame lol.

Where's your avy from? Asking for $50 million or more could arouse suspicion. I'd rather take a low pay out and live normally off that money. Even the $25 million would come with a highly justifiable reason. This is a clean amicable solution where everyone wins.

I would never be able to trust a murderer who knows I'm a witness, so I'd only feel safe if he were dead or in prison, so I'd try to achieve either outcome.
That's worth more than any amount of money.

If I was certain to get away unharmed without a policy enquiry or anything like that, I'd probably do it for a couple of thousand quid.

Yeah, as others have said, I couldn't accept any sum. Two reasons:

1. I would not be able to live with myself, and:
2. If it came back to me that I was paid off to overlook it, I'm pretty sure I could be charged as an accomplice.

They could give me any amount and I would still send the police on their ass as I am not playing any part in covering up their crime.

What is all that money worth when I can't get sleep at night?
And anything I would buy with that dirty money would remind me even more what an asshole I am for taking such a deal.

What if you buy a new children's ward at your local hospital with the proceeds of an unreasonably large bribe. Is there a moral imperative to take the money and do something good with it?

Depends on who was murdered. Some gangland/mafia/police corruption shit? $100k.

An innocent kid/nun/family man? You could not pay me enough.

Depends who was killed and how. If it was some scummy chav I wouldn't care, but a little 5 year old girl or something?

Anyway, I'd be however much I could get out of them, at least a couple of mill.

Is my life in danger? If not then I wouldn't take any amount of money. If it was I'd take whatever they offered to save my own hide most likely.

If it's assured that I will never get in trouble, then 100 million.

Pay off loans, debts, help my family, invest, form charities, make a movie studio, live my dreams, never have to work again. Influence people and use my wealth for the betterment of society. Fuck the murder.

If it's just a random person? I'd do it for maybe 100,000. And then like a week later -- I'd go to the police cause I'd probably feel really guilty. But there is no doubt that if it was just a single person that got killed I would break at a pretty low price. Especially since my life would probably also be on the line.

Well, considering the killer wouldn't just kill me in cold blood right off the bat...

I want seven thousand dollars a month every month for the remainder of my life. Okay, thanks.

No amount honestly.

I mean if you had only one witness to a murder you committed and you knew who they were would you ever be content they wouldn't expose you? You alright killed someone once what do you have to lose going for one more.

the amount of money it would take to keep me quiet is significantly more than it would cost them to pay someone else to get rid of me.

This. I'm not up to date on my murder for hire but the amount to pay to kill someone that often comes up in news stories is $10,000 or less.

I need to know about the situation. But generally, I don't have a price. If the murderer was known a awful person then nothing would keep me quite unless I am dead. It probably help that I rarely have financially issues and I am never THAT fond of money.
I'd take the money and testify against them.
Or this if possible.

I mean even if i do take the money -- there's really nothing stopping me from turning him in still. Especially when the money is so small a sum that I can basically just deny he ever paid me off in the first place if it ever comes up.

Edit: with a larger sum. Things get murkier.

Is it illegal to accept the money, launder or hide it or something then tell on the criminal?

I'm not sure either. But doesn't it feel intuitively like it should be illegal? You went straight to laundering and hiding the money as if you already knew it was a crime.

No amount of money in all honestly. I'd take the bribe initially... to ensure my safety. But you'd be damn sure I'd be bringing that bribe to the police the next day. I'm by no means pious, but I'm not blinded by money. Murderers will murder again-- loose ends don't stay untied for long.

Well just because something is shameful or unethical doesn't make it a crime. Is it unethical to screw over a murderer?
