If you were the sole witness of a murder, how much would it take to pay you off?

Depends on the people involved. If it's drug related or crime related then I would just not want to get involved. If it's a complete innocent victim then I'm going to have to play along and leave then call the cops

This thread: "Excuse me, you sir, who are trying to bribe me after you just committed murder. You better have had a good reason to kill that man or you won't silence me!"

Not sure, because there's just too many different circumstances that would change it. Did I witness a murder in cold blood by a drug dealer or something? Did someone just fuck up in a confrontation? Was it a planned murder? Do I think the murderer is otherwise a good person or know them at all? Do I think the person who was murdered somehow "deserved" it?

I think the honest answer is I really don't know, and in the heat of the moment, I'd probably say yes to just about anything that resulted in my being less terrified of that same person coming to murder me later.

It entirely depends on the circumstances and even then I'm not sure my conscience could live with it

If i saw someone who murder a genuinely evil person (lets say an abuse victim murder their abuser as an example), I'd possibly keep quiet for free

If i saw a criminal murder another criminal? A huge chunk of money

anything else i'd not want to keep quiet

but 2 things? in any circumstance if their was a genuine threat made against my family's life i'd probably not tell unless i could do so and guarantee their safety

but even now as i type this my conscience is say i'd probably not keep quiet in any circumstance

interesting dilemma OP, surely the answer in its simplest form is it depends on the circumstance

I would tell the nice gentleman/lady to properly fuck off and suck my dick.

....However, if this person would like to pay for the that service....well...I would be inclined to accept that offer.

Trade one crime for another, basically.

This may sound idealistic or whatever but unless they were threatening to kill me or my family members then there is no amount of money that would keep me from reporting it. I might only be saying this because I'm living pretty comfortably whereas I'm sure if I were in a worse living situation or the circumstances of my living were different I would not be so quick to make that decision.

I mean I would try for 75k, I wont go lower than 30k. It would really depend on the wealth of the murderer. If its someone rich I'll ask for more if its some average Joel than I go with situation I already laid out. If you ask for too much money from them the murderer just might murder you.

I would let them off free and not lose any sleep.

Truthfully, I won't lose any sleep over it but if I was blackmailing a murderer, I would only do it if I had enough control of the situation, to make the murderer pay me and not try and kill me. I don't know how much I would sell my conscience but I know it can be bought.

$2 million and I'd have to "understand" the murder. Not necessarily agree with it or anything, just to know that it's not something that is likely to happen again, or the person antagonized said murderer in a way where as I said, I don't necessarily agree... but I understand.

There's a near infinite amount of variables for this plan to work out in my favor.

...so I'd ask at least 100 bucks. In cash.

If I could walk out of that situation still breathing I'd consider it my lucky day. Anyone who's ever been involved in an even remotely similar situation know's it's safest to turn your head the other way and go on about your day.

Where I'm from you don't have to look too far to know someone who's walking around freely with a few bodies on them. Yet from a young age adults tell you it's best to mind your own business.

Even if it's something like a car accident, I'd assume that anyone willing to offer me money after just murdering a person would not be the best candidate to be making any sort of deal with.

$250/day in perpetuity, and if the payments stop I go to the police.

The idea behind this is actually pretty smart.

To answer the question, I'm not really sure. There's a lot of factors involved. Very interesting to think about though.

Depends on how much power this person has. Give me a couple milli or get me into the right spot to land a dream job? Sure. I forget I left bread in the toaster all the time.

Or.

Have definite proof they murked someone, get the cash, erase proof transaction happend and Then kill them for being a fucking murderer and claim self defense.

I'm a rich hero. Booyashaka.

Pretty good question. I'd like to say that I wouldn't take any money and would testify against the murderer no matter what.

But in the real world, if we're talking about being witness to a mob hitman killing someone or a corrupt government-type thing where even doing "the right thing" would likely get my loved ones in danger, I would likely just walk away and keep my family safe. Not take any money but just let the people know that I'm not interested in getting my wife's head delivered in a cookie jar.

Otherwise, I guess depending on my view of the situation: is this a vigilante act where I agree with the actions of the killer (i.e. a father avenging a child-type situation)? Would also not testify, no bribe needed.

I guess I wouldn't take any money under any circumstance ever, because I would definitely feel bad about that. Either I would testify or not testify. Money is not part of the equation for me.

I would understand people that do it for money if they need it though.

Accept their first offer. Then inquire about filing a restraining order on the killer shortly before the meet. Take the money and then kill the killer and claim self defense.

The more interesting question is if you can receive billions of dollars that could be put to good use to help people. Arguably, billions of dollars can help society more than imprisoning one murderer.

Well, if whoever committed the crime has access to that kind of money, I'm not sure they'll be willing to pay (might be cheaper to just kill you and make sure the evidence is lost).

That also brings up a valid point: are you an eyewitness, or do you have video/photo evidence of the deed? Because if it's the latter then it also becomes a problem where the killer has to trust that you handled in all evidence, otherwise you might be tortured/etc. Again, this is part of the scenario where the killer is a mafia hitman/secret agency type. If it's just a regular chump then as I said, I'm going to the police and they better be ready to go to jail.

Honestly, depending on the type of murder, a minimum of $50-100. Maybe just buy me drinks for a night. I don't really care.

250k€

It depends on the circumstances, but you can't someone bring back to life, so I would be able to sleep.

$100,000 is my minimum.

It's not like the murderer will interac you the funds. You will want it in cash.

You did not think this through.

Right, because you wouldn't be investigated by the feds if you came forward and the murderer tells them they paid you off? Pretty sure you'd be prosecuted if they found you were hiding bribe money. Maybe you didn't think this one through.

It's possible to hide the money but it's also a fairly big risk.

Once you get paid off though, don't you become an accessory? If they ever get caught, police might be able to track and follow the money. It would have to be enough money to change my life if I were to risk going to prison over it.

But If I'm getting paid off, that means that people know I'm a witness. Meaning they might try more permanent measures if I refuse. If they killed this person they could kill me and probably also get away with it. So really you should take whatever they offer and just shut the fuck up

If you're the sole witness, then you're likely to get murdered yourself. It would be a lot cheaper than paying someone off.

Nah this killer has a code. No collateral damage.

As for the question at hand, it really depends on the circumstances of the murder. The who,why and how..

15 million
