If you're a Gears fan, the Series X is literally the perfect machine

Many people have been constantly throwing chit at MS for many years, in a sense rightfully so, but let's be fair and call their virtues too.

I'm a PlayStation guy all the way, but I recently bought a Series X just for the full Gears of War saga and a bit of Forza Horizon. I love Gears of War.

Man, the games look absolutely incredible. The OG Trilogy runs at 4K@60 through their backwards program and let me just say the games have a new life. They look and play so clean and beautiful, I prefer them far to the first three Uncharted games.

Not a fan of Gears 4 and 5, but still worthwhile games and Hivebusters is mindblowing. Jesus Christ that game on OLED looks and run so beautiful.

The console is honestly a great machine, it's super well built, love the monolithic uber-minimalistic design, it's quiet and blends in. UI is super fluid and also looks great, on par with PS5.

This is by no means a true rival to PS5, but there are jewels here you can't find anywhere else. I find it sad people just want to trash everything.

In a perfect world I would be able to enjoy all of this on my PlayStation, but we're not there. Maybe someday. In the meantime, they made a great console.

Or is it just one of Phil's balls in my throat?
Agree with OP in a general sense but some minor corrections:

OG Gears 1 only has FPS Boost, it runs at 720p/60, Gears 2 is 4K/60 and Gears 3 is 1440p/60.

The key point is that every single Gears game released so far can be played at 60fps on either Series console.

My car only has 5 gears.

The best Gears game is Gears Ultimate. I wish they would put it on Steam, or even remake it another time with UE5.

4 is meh, 5 has its moments.

We really need a proper Gears collection. Or maybe even a full UE5 remake of all of them.

(and I say UE5 because of the legacy and because we all know the Coalition knows how to use the engine properly).

Why not, it'll be a cool package, put it on Switch 2 as well.

They'll need to do a re-release, that fabled Gears Collection, for that. Currently, the only way to play those games on any modern system is the BC emulation of the X360 versions, and that ain't getting on PS5.

Honestly I don't think they're going to dare releasing the OG trilogy on PS. And those are the best ones. Hope to be proven wrong, tough.
Pretty sure that once they drop Xbox hardware they will be cashing in anything they got. Maybe even before.

If they get a remake of the original trilogy up on Steam, and it's not a buggy mess, I will happily pick it up and replay those games. I'd love to play them again before E-Day comes out.

Best generation of gaming ever for Xbox. definitely needed another thread reminding us. But yes, you can play Gears on Xbox Series consoles. It still hasn't had a single new Gears game release for it.

Maybe it's dangerous to remaster the OG series on multiple platforms, it runs the risk of making kids realize how dogwater modern AAA gaming has become.

Tag, you're it.
Only Gears 1. 4, 5, and Tactics are on PC.
I think we will survive, Xenia made great progress and now the best place to play those games is on PC (resolution of your choice and unlocked framerate + various patches to improve whatever you want + play with any controller you want)

Love the style of gears of war, 2 was an improvement, the series needed a break after that. I played gears on an Alienware 15r3 laptop and was hugely impressed.

Except it’s nothing like Gears.

A third person shooter is "nothing like" another third person shooter?

SM2 isn't a cover shooter like Gears, but let's not pretend there are no similarities, especially in style.

I paid good money for this Dynex!
I don’t believe there’s anything that’s really captured what made the Gears series great in its first 3 games. Even Gears, itself - 4, 5, and Ultimate all missed the mark in various ways. The originals were delightfully over the top, and benefitted from the “look” UE3 games tended to have, even though we chide other games for the same thing. It just worked.

Gameplay is still top notch - that most assuredly has aged well.

I agree with you, but almost none of what makes me love Gears is present in SM2.

SM2 is a mid horde shooter hampered by a focus on melee combat. Gears is a story rich shooter with great characters that you actually care about that much like Halo before it took an idea and revolutionized it for the mainstream.

The only similarity is a third person shooter with bulky characters.

Doesn't the one X get some of these boosts as well? I've pretty much all the Gears aside from 5. Usually get some kinda boost with 360 games on that when I've tried a few

I'd say I'm surprised Microsoft all these years hasn't made a remastered trilogy at least for PC, but then again they were never good at reading the market. The recent games have also been meh. Gears 4 specifically, no idea what they were thinking when making that crap. I don't have any hopes for the new game.

One X only gets resolution boost AFAIK.

So 2/3 are 4K but still only 30fps.

Series S is 1440/60 for 2/3/Judgement and X is 4K/60. 1 is just 720/60.

I'm not suggesting Space Marine 2 is a Gears clone, but I'm not going to derail the thread further.

Anyone who’s actually played Gears wouldn’t think SM2 is at all like it.

I played Gears on 360. Great game.

Series S is 1440/60 for 2/3/Judgement and X is 4K/60. 1 is just 720/60.
Judgement never got an X enhancement. Still 720p.

Also, Gears 1, in the form of the Ultimate Edition, was a native 1080p on Xbox One. It did eventually get FPS Boost for 60fps.
However, at the launch of the Series consoles, Microsoft also was experimenting with their Heutchy Method resolution multiplier that they use for 360/OG BC games.
They actually had Ultimate Edition running at 4K, albeit only at the original 30fps. I wish they would have actually implemented this feature. Games like Arkham Knight could have gotten a huge resolution boost since the original devs/pubs never upgraded them.

Here is a video of their testing the resolution mulitplier for Gears Ultimate Edition:
