IGN afraid of reviewing Hogwarts Legacy

Probably the best way for them to approach it, it won't be good enough, nothing ever is, but at least its allowing the game to stand on its own

Not sure anyone has listened to the actual Podcast but I couldn't find a mention of IGN being scared to review it - Travis just said he can't discuss it (I assume because of embargo) - 13:05 and 1:57:22 of the cast. Did he say anything else?
I believe it was in 1:43. He said he got Hogwarts only because others were scared to review it

They didn't sound afraid when they spit that bullcrap on Hogwarts Legacy last preview.

I guess profissionalism on games jornalism was aways dead.

I'm not saying you can just handwave it away, but a big gaming site could stick up for its principle function - to review games. And of course stick up for its writers when the inevitable hoards descend.
I guess the whole point is that this is a job that traditionally doesn't involve this level of social political scrutiny. Yes, tired discussions of violence in games, but other than that, not so much.

If, as you say, it's inevitable that "hordes" will descend on the reviewer of this game (and I'm not sure that's likely) then who is going to treat this like just another day in the office.

Hi, thanks for the review of Knack, great job. We want you to do a Harry Potter game next. You might be on for a few months of personal attacks, getting doxxed and having every social media post you've made scrutinized so it can be used to criticize you. That ok? "

"Just another day at the office!"

I don't understand. JK Rowling has, to the best of my knowledge, ever said anything that is transphobic or called for hate against Trans people.

I feel like I'm living in a dystopian future.

Damn reviews hit an hour earlier than they were supposed to. Looking good though. Going to sell millions now despite (and because of) the controversy.

Congrats to Avalanche Studios and all the devs!

Battaglia and DF are spineless cunts as well. And anyone else who is scared to review this game OR review it with the proviso they mention the controversy are spineless counts as well. Just review the fucking game fairly and be done with it. Stop letting the vocal minority control our fucking gaming space!
What makes DF spineless? If I recall, I saw Alex dedicate an entire video calling out devs for shitty PC ports.

Good for you Travis.
An honest review of the the game.....just how game reviews should be.

They just can't fucking help themselves can they, do all pr people in the world sit in the same discord or some shit? Cause it's always the same tired, weak, beta format of giving some extra virtue signaling information.
How hard is it to just do your job and review the game and move the fuck on without adding political/ideological "concerns"? There's no need to fucking justify your review, because that's all it is, anyone who believes otherwise is mentally ill and doesn't deserve your attention anyway.

I was there 3000 years ago in the very beginning. The days of n64.com with Matt casamassina. They would stay relevant for me up till around the cube/xbox/ps2 era

I feel like wording it "lost their way years ago" is the same as saying Julius Caesar died more than 10 years ago...
technically true but confusing 😅

Exactly they could have just said something like:

"Our job is to review the game and tell you if it's any good. If you want to learn more about the controversy around the game and franchise as a whole, feel free to google it but we're focusing on the game here. K thanks bye".

Good for you Travis.

He really should be commended for it.

It's easy for all of us to chill on GAF and anonymously say what people should do in these circumstances but when you're using your actual name and your job (and therefore financial wellbeing) is on the line...... yeah I mean shit. It really is scary. At work we occasionally get "LGBT e-learning materials" to read through and there are quizzes at the end. I disagree with a lot of the "T" content but I'm not about to be like "no fuck this" because I know it'll somehow make its way to HR and I'll somehow get disciplined/fired and it's not worth it. I have my principles but hey gotta put food in those mouths.

So yeah. Good for Travis as you said!

fucking pussies... good thing the game seems like its amazing.

fuck these purpled haired morons trying to ruin everything for everyone else

It is not difficult. Have a fucking warning at the beginning of the review if you are that such of a pussy and just write IGN or whatever the fuck "Do not agree with comments made by J. K. Rowling" and just proceeds with the fucking review. It is not fucking rocket science.
Fuck that dont give those hate filled people an inch. Jk's views are completly irrelevent to the game. Dont appease them in anyway. Thats the only way this stops.

How these SJWs became so powerful in videogaming and just media in general is beyond me. We are living in some sort of weird communistic society where the 'party in charge' is filled with transexuals, bronies and blue haired weirdoes who can ruin your life if you are in disagreement with any of their lifestyle choices.

Not that I put a lot of sway into IGN's opinion, but there are also big name streamers afraid to check out the game in fear of being cancelled by the Twitter mobs.
Yeah, unfortunately true.

A lot of streamers aren't going to stream it - not because they'd be in on the cancel culture, but because they don't want to deal with the idiots that will undoubtedly be attracted to the stream.
It's a bit of a shitty situation.

In a way I undestand, trans activities are ultra violente. In an other I don't, trans activities mostly focus on gay men for liking penis and have zero internet in vagina... So I don't see why all those bigots and straights are afraid, since they are not gay it should be perfectly fine for them.
Wait, there's internet in vaginas? Now I get why they're so addictive.

I reckon this is going to pretty much pass without much reaction from boycotters / trans activists but the other side of the argument will treat it as if they were incandescent.

That's the crazy part.
They have no real power.

By now there have been studies/polls showing that the vast majority of gamers (way more than 90%) don't care in the slightest about the social media drama or reviews from """professional journalists""" surrounding a game.
Every company could completely safely ignore all of that stuff - and some do!

Even the biggest Twitter shitstorm is still just a tempest in a teapot.

But in some (too many) companies, PR/HR is run by part of that clique that falsely puts weight on that stuff.
It's very much an "Emperor's new clothes" situation.

Institutions and political leaders have been hypnotised by this.

It doesn't help that half their staff consider themselves to be activists.

The best way to approach it is not to say anything and just review a video game for how it is
