IGN Fight Night Round 3 Review

Fight Night Round 3 is a fantastic sports title, but negligible improvements in the career mode and idiotic computer AI hold the game back from true greatness. Removing the HUD, in combination with visible emotion creates a more instinctive boxing experience, especially when moving in for the knockout. There are some strange choices in the presentation department, like the lack of rankings, but the outstanding graphics and sound effects create a great in-game experience, which is what counts. The impact punches are a great addition, and the tension from a well-placed stun punch creates a true white-knuckle experience. Creating a fighter and taking the title belt provides decent entertainment value, but the real fun lies in beating your friends’ faces in. Try (or not, as the case may be) as the computer might, it’s your friends that will be your true rivals."

Overall 8.5

:(

I'm sure it'll still be fun and the graphics are awesome. But I wanted a 10/10 game to go along with those 10/10 visuals :(

The old IGN would give it over a 9.

Honestly, I really like the new IGN. They're actually being very down to earth and realistic in their scoring. Which is why I'm kinda bummed this isn't a AAA system-seller.

But, shouldn't a 8.5 be good enough for that? Seriously it's that kind of thinking that has ruined pointing scales to point of being unusable. A 10 game you should only see about once a year per system, and thats it, period. A 10 is perfect, a 10 means anyone and everyone should want that game and love it. A 9 should be the epitome for whatever genre that game is in, so why should a 8.5 be looked down upon at all?

They mention that's slower than the current-gen versions. :(
Fine by me. I could do without the Burger King ad bullshit, but that's EA for you.

Wait, what did they say about no rankings? Even online? WTF if that's true.

They kind of explain it in context a bit better. Plus they say it looks so much better it adds to the gameplay.

I'm kind of torn. It sounds like the fighting engine has been fixed from what ruined rd. 2 for most people, and the multiplayer sounds good for Live. But I really wanted a competent career mode for single player. Maybe I'm lame for desiring that in a fighting game, but I love that aspect of the boxing "drama". They could have even tied it into the Live functionality.

Shit. I know this would be good on Live, I know all my buddy listers will get it, but I'm sort of bummed to put cash down when they essentially state the career mode will suffer from the same problems I thought it did last year, which is cruising right through it and having no real incentive to repeat with different classes or weights.

Well, if you look at the breakdown of the scores the majority of that 8.5 is coming from the graphics. Takes those away and the game is getting scored like a 7.5 on the gameplay which is a bit disappointing.

I'm still picking it up next week and I think it'll be fun with friends and over live. But it also sounds like it will get old reaaaal fast and be neglected to a game you pull out to show off your HDTV once and a while.

I was hoping for an in-depth long lasting single player mode with good AI and variety. I'm mainly just disappointed it didn't deliver there.

After playing the shit out of the demo I still have no doubts this game won't deliver. Maybe cause i'm not really looking at the single player side. This game just screams multiplayer and when my roommate gets it we will be playing it all the time.

Have you played the demo yet? It just has two players to choose from but we are still booting it up for a couple fights a night. Just get some Xbox live friends if you don't have anyone to punch at home and you should be good to go.

Yeah, the demo is the reason I'm buying it. I really enjoyed the demo with friends for about 3 days but then it got kinda old. Actually I guess it just comes down to how different the boxers actually play. If everyone is pretty varied I should be able to get some good playtime out of it. It'll be a good diversion from 4 hour straight DoA4 battles.

I'm surprised this thread isn't huge, this game has been on many people's radars since the demo. I would buy this game if it got a 5.0, the demo is just that fun.

GRAW has stolen some of it's limelight. Still atleast you guys get to give it your undivided attention until GRAW comes out. Over in the UK both games come out on March 10th. Shit EA, bring it forward by a week please.

is there a way to stop the button cheesers online? is there an option for only stick control?

i refuse to play button cheesers.

I wonder if ranked games will force you to use the sticks, like how Madden ranked games forced people to use Vision Cone or MVP Baseball 06 makes you use the new batting controls.

was there an option in the last fight night?

I dont need to listen to this CRAP! Because thats what it is, CRAP!!

pffft, yeah that's the response i expected. you are a chronic button cheeser throughout history! first the Y Y Y Y YYYYYYYYYY scandal, and now this! you should be ashamed

I used config 3 with the total punch control being the right analog... that fucking rocked for me but it was hard to do mid body shots.

One can win a match in the demo by throwing continuous punches, whether in range or not. Any punch will do, be it a jab or low blow or upper cut. When the round start just start throwing punches while moving towards the opponent. You will win. I've won all matches by knockout. The jab is touch and go at the begining, but in the end I won. With any other punches I won in the third or second round. This game is broken, and it's a shame because it could have been great.

An 8.5 out of 10. That should be considered a good review score. Amazing how hyperinflated most review scores are now. I think the game looks great and I plant to rent it to see if I wish to purchase. :)

What's the new IGN?

Sounds like a game that will sell itself on the Live gameplay. Time to rebuild my friend list I guess, I wouldn't wanna play the general population just to have everyone disconnect when I knock them on their ass. Hopefully it keeps track of disconnects like DOA4.

Supposedly they've tightened up their reviewing standards.

Whether or not that is true will probably be determined by the next Bioware RPG.

At least it will always be "old" GAF.

Put me down on your buddy list, Musashi! bishGA will beat you silly over the internets.

Sweet, I am going to have to bring the beatdown up to America Jr.

Went to EB today to trade in Call of Duty towards this game. The manager told me the game should be in Monday afternoon. I didn't know deliveries happened Monday.

So, I guess this means I should wait for Fight Night Round 4 when they have finished the game with all its features and optimized the performance.

Best Buy store search is starting to show this popping up. Anyone have it yet? I finally got a 360 yesterday so I'm juiced to try this game out.
