IGN gives Switch 2 a 7.0

Verdict

The Nintendo Switch 2 is a Switch but bigger and better in every sense, with all of the original's successes as well as most of its faults accounted for. Its hybrid nature is still just as good of an idea today as it was eight years ago, and a lot of its best games benefit massively from the beefier tech inside that allows for 4K, higher framerates, and faster load times. But all of that feels more like Nintendo getting back to treading water as the Switch started to fall a little too far behind what people expected from their game consoles rather than providing a compelling reason of its own for you to pay 50% more for this upgrade. The updated Joy-Con take an impressively creative swing at giving you that reason, but while its innovative mouse controls are a game changer on paper, they are so ergonomically uncomfortable to use in practice that I can still feel the strain in my arm as I type this. The end result is a console I really like for all the same reasons I loved the original Switch, but one that's also left me strangely underwhelmed after actually spending time with it for a while. It's a step up that's vital if the Switch 1 is the only way to play games that you have access to, but feels about as exciting as a long-overdue phone upgrade in the larger scheme of things.

I mean that's what everyone does now. they know people will click on their link if they say something controversial about the what ever the BIG NEW THING is.

Reading some of the complaints it seems like a reasonable score.

In any case, not too much to care about here. In my opinion a console lives or dies by it's games, not it's features.

I don't know who a review like this actually helps. Probably nobody.

Its like reviewing a container, without knowing what the content in will be throughout its life

Anyway, I guess that's easy clicks

It's fine, system neither great nor bad in current form. Display output and screen could be better. The games make the system, I wouldn't read too much into a random number right now.

Honestly seems about right for the hardware/OS/etc.

Not like it really matters, if you buy a Switch 2 it's because you want to play Switch 2 games. Not because the hardware is so amazing.

Great way to trigger the fanboys though!

Nintendo Switch - Final Review

The Nintendo Switch blurs the line between handheld and home console, but it doesn't feel quite at home in either role.

Why the fuck did it score the same then? I know different reviewer but still.

I don't know what people were expecting for a launch console. The best version of the Switch 2 is going to be years down the line after Nintendo has released a bunch of updates and enhancements for it.

they need clicks, they send the rage bait. The low hanging fruit.

Youtube is plagued with the hot takes about how the whole thing is trash, there are still some of them about the "Failed Launch".

It's hilarious.

I've always found it odd to rate hardware. It would feel more appropriate in my opinion to review hardware at the end of the generation. How well it held up, if it was worth buying because the library of games was good etc.

I think we all wished for a fresh new interface and better eShop. As much as I really like the console, yes it is underwhelming on the functionnality side. It's still barebone.
