IGN: Madden Next-Gen commercial impressions

i forgot to set the computer in my rush to work this morning. i could kick myself, meanwhile im scurrying to call all my friends with tivos and will be running by their house after work

fucking ea, what a bunch of marketing pr spin bullshit is this?? this was setup when ea scored the liscense deal with the nfl, now they are trying to hype the hell out of anyone and everyone. so basically they admit all they care about is gfx, otherwise they would'nt be doing this.

I guess it won't be realistic then? In reality McNabb would be coughing up a lung and Strahan would have owned Runyan for the sack. Nice try EA.

Yeah, cause the Giants have been owning the Eagles in the last few years :lol

The Giants suck bro, face it. And how can anyone root for fake record sack holder Strahan :lol

So where did EA get this inferiority complex from?

They killed their competition....what are they scared of?

all of you stop acting like whiny bitches. madden 2006 on XBOX 360 is going to look BETTER than what you see today! so let me give you the following steps:

* Take some time off from watching dragon ball zgtxa5xero and actually watch something football related (the draft) instead of just bitching about something you dont really care about for the sake of bitching

* watch for the madden 2006 commercial. if you are impressed with what you see, then you are going to be even more impressed in november.

* if you are not impressed with what you see, no sweat, it's going to look superior in november

* come back to this thread and say "NOT ON MY WATCH EA! HOW PRETENTIOUS! WHAT KIND OF ANIMAL RAPIST WANTS TO SHOW THE GENERAL PUBLIC AN IDEA OF WHAT THEY CAN EXPECT THIS FALL WITH THE NEW HARDWARE! WHAT KIND OF MONSTER! WHY I NEVER!"

* repeat that general feeling @ e3. hopefully you can all go to e3 and tell EA what a bunch of horrible murderers they are. murderers of competition of course. then when they ask you "When was the last time you bought a football game?" you will say "THATS NONE OF YOUR BUSINESS! YOU WONT GET MY INFO FOR YOUR MARKET RESEARCH GROUP! YOU SEE THIS MIDDLE FINGER IT SAYS NFS! THAT MEANS NOT FOR SALE EA I WONT BUY MADDEN! BOYCOTT! WE WILL PERSERVEREEEEEEE!"

now that we're done with that, lets get back to chatting about the upcoming commercial. i got an email from EA saying it is a 1-time airing? why? i'm sure someone will capture it and put it online but damn

Here's some things I thought of that EA can do to drastically improve upon the realism of Madden.

1.) Have afternoon games go from day, then gradually to night with the stadium lights turning on.

2.) Have the stadiums that share time with baseball teams show the faded diamond on the field through september.

3.) Have uniforms get dirty gradually in real time.

4.) Show locker room "pep talks" or ass chewings.

5.) Have the half-time on the field coach's interviews.

6.) Be more realistic with fans in the stands. If a team is sucking, have their attendance be down and not nearly as many fans attending the games. The ones that DO attend, have some of them jeer their team (remember when Saints fans called themselves the "aints" and wore paper bags over their heads?) If a game is a blow out, show fans actually leaving and make the far away shots of the crowd look as if it's thinning out gradually.

7.) Show a serious injury once in a while. If I play a season, I want to at least once see an ambulance come on the field to carry away a player unconcious or with a compound fracture.

8.) Gang tackling, gang tackling, gang tackling!! No more simple one on one tackles. EA needs to show on defender stop a back while 2 or 3 others finish him off. Show some tackles where a jersey is grabbed and pulled.

9.) Make weather variances more realistic. If it's raining, have the rain gradually go from a drizzel to a hard down pour, back to lighter fall. Same goes for snow.

10.) And finally, you have to show Dick Vermeil crying at least a few times during the season.

I used to be a Madden whore! I bought NFL Gameday once based on reviews and swore never to turn my back on EA ever again....until VC and the Dreamcast. In a way i'm kinda intruiged by the prospects of returning to Madden but i would have loved to see what VC could do next gen. Madden will rule...i'm just a bit bitter.

Wow dude, those are some really great suggestions.

regarding the gradual uniforms, that does happen. it's not like NFL 2kx where your jersey is just all of a sudden automatically dirty. now whether it is in REAL TIME (i.e. there are mudparticles calculated etc) i dont know how feasible that is on current hardware, but it is gradual.

the fans do leave and get quiet in blowouts as it is. there is no cutscene showing people leaving though

That is nothing you should see what i used to do in the early 90's. I Actually have sent EA pages upon pages of suggestions, detailed explanations etc on each of thier game series and even on series they haven't even tried yet. I got a letter back from EA telling me that they enjoyed my passion and regretfully/legally they can't speak tp me or accept my ideas but i should do something with them. :D I felt like a star :)

Yeah I get what you're saying regarding the uniforms. I would love to see uni's get dirty in real time but if it's too much of a sacrifice in power, I could live without it. I'm sure there's ways around it to creat the ILLUSION of real time dirty uniforms.

Regarding fans leaving gradually. What I"d like to see are the stadium ailes filled with fans moving up the steps and emptying out through the gates.

Little details like that are great eye candy but you think if a non liscense game had everything you guys want that you would play it more than Madden? No. It's all in the gameplay. Look at the New Japan/All Japan Wrestling games...those games have superior gameplay which is why even though there isn't a WWE or TNA license people prefer to play that. I think the future of sports games is in the gameplay. Bringing the sport to us and letting us be the sport.

AI, animation, momentum, psychics, weather conditions affecting visablity ( especially with EA's new vision passing ), weather conditions affecting routes and rushing attacks and defensive schemes...injuries affecting performance...wind...i mean things that will bridge the gap between the NFL and an interactive NFL not a videogame but an experience, an extention of what you see at the stadium and have actually played if you were a player. The visual will be there, especially with PS3/360/REV...what's worth it to us as gamers if all we are doing is wallpapering cracks with prettier wallpaper?

Thanks. DVR recording ESPNHD now. When you guys start shouting, I'll go rewind and scruitinize the shit out of it. Though, I must admit, FrenchMovieTheme's damage control has sucked a lot of fun out of the proceedings.

There you have it....i don't know...i need to look at it alot, but it screamed pretty this gen rather than next...stay tuned.

I personally thought it looked awful, and what happened to those being "artist renditions of what it could looK like."

Next gen graphics, this gen animations. WTF was IGN thinking when they said it's like the Nike commercial? the first scene where the player is pumping up the crowd looks like it's missing frames!

EDIT: and why did the Eagles coach sound like a 13 y/o kid?

Totally unimpressed!!!!! That looked horrible with the jerky animation. The snow looks the same as this generation.

Will we finally get a seperate camera for the jumbo trons?>

Fucking awesome. I hate EA, but that ad was pretty good work. Looks like they are doing lots on the presentation front. I just hope they have that tackle came. That was sweet. The animations aren't perfect, but who gives a shit? PEACE.

[damage control]

i liked the tackle animation on mcnabb... and the new playcalling menus. HEY! it's going to look BETTER than this!

[/damage control]

t.o. looked kind of odd on that dive, his ass was sticking out... mmmm his delicious pooper...

Agreed on the animation. Not a very good demo of what gameplay is supposed to look like, either. Completely underwhelming.

To be honest, it looked like we could play something like that and it not being out of the realm of possibility better. Again, all PS3 and 360 games will look jaw dropping, it's all in the movement and gameplay....and i saw nothing that in that ad that wowed me. I'm sure come November, hell even E3 we'll see where EA is now with the game becuase if you look closely...that Strahan/McNabb pic that was release like months ago was in that ad...meaning that ad is OLD...i know Nathkenn is grinning ear to ear becuase not only are they at the level now real-time but WILL blow our mind come as early as E3 but as late as Oct.

It wasn't in HD...i'm sure all the ads on the HD stations are not true HD but yet i'm sure it looked better than if you would have watched it on the regular station. Don't fret..someone even EA themselfs will release the ad in high res.

i agree, and now I see why nathkenn kept saying that what they have now looks better, because a couple of things in the commercial where underwhelming. This commercial is proof that before graphics, a sports title benwefits from animation more. After seeing those amazing pics, seeing them in motion wasn't as hot. Mcnabb dodging the Strahan sack was nice, Mcnabb pumping up the crowd was ugly. I'm disappointed in IGN for making a direct comparison to the Nike spot though because they really aren't comparable.

Because even though Favre gave up that sack like a bitch, Strahan is still a future hall of famer.

You're right though the Giants do suck. I guess I shouldn't cheer for my favorite team, my hometown team, and instead be a frontrunning prick like you seem to be.

it's true, this Madden CGI commercial is nowhere near the Nike CGI commercial. but they both are going for the same effect. the Nike commercial just does it better, because it was no-holds-bar CGI, whereas the Madden CGI is was made with what is expected of nextgen consoles in realtime.
