IGN: MVP Baseball 06 review

8.7

All nitpicking aside, MVP 06 is a great baseball game. Load and Fire, which will surely be imitated in future baseball titles to come, is the most fun and satisfying hitting system to date. The pitching, baserunning and fielding is all vintage MVP -- with the exception of Precision Throw Control -- and combine to make one of the most technically-sound baseball games on the market. A deep Dynasty mode will keep you coming back for more, and any baseball fan shouldn't have a problem with the mediocre college atmosphere. That didn't detract much from NCAA Football in the past, and it doesn't here either, especially when you can create your own school, stadium and players. In terms of presentation, Online Everywhere and the seamless ESPN Integration raise the bar for all future sports titles. These features are great now, but you get the feeling that we haven't seen anything yet. And at $29.99, MVP 06 NCAA Baseball is the greatest value in a sports title since ESPN NFL 2K5 at $19.99. It's a shame EA lost the MLB license, but EA Canada chugs right on without it, all the way to Omaha, and we're all the better for it.

This seems to be the first really positive review of the new hitting system I've seen. I'm still not sold on load and fire, but we'll see when I pick it up.

You can still use the 2005 controls if you don't like load & fire.

I can't wait to pick this up. Online GAF league, anybody? (PS2 version)

Amen brother!

Even with inevitable fan-created MLB custom teams/rosters, I'm just not going to be able to enjoy this game for long thanks to the "ting" of the bat and lack of MLB branding. I grew up rooting for the Mariners, not the Huskies. I want to bunt for a base hit with Ichiro, not Joe AnonCoEd.

Maybe they'll make a Little League game next year... with lengthy post-game pizza party sequences.

Oh I remember the days when people read up on game before they procalimed their buying decisions for all the internet to know.

YOU CAN PLAY WITH WOODEN BATS.

When you look at the other baseball option, the choice is quite easy :lol

Still bummed there is no 360 version, not even sure if I'll pick it up,gave my Xbox away to my neice/nephew =\ And the PS2's graphics are asstastic.

Im just getting the PS2 version, fuck it. :(

Not sure how a release like this isn't BC at launch. I know it takes time, but couldn't MS work with EA during production to get it working? If anything, new XBox releases should get priority.

They said they were working on it back in December, since then we havent had a word about it. I bet I get the PS2 version, and then MVP 06 is part of the Feb 2006 BC update. :\

That's a fun review, I look forward to the ESPN integration.

Hey I have an off topic question...sort of...

I'm moving home in a week and my room is networked to the basement through the walls and whatnot...if I tkae the cable line going into my room and plug it into my new router (that i have where I am now) will I be able to plug 4 new connections into it? Or does the router have to be connected directly to the modem?

I ask this because I need to know if I can keep the Xbox in my room and still have it connected online (and not have to switch the online from my computer to the xbox whenever I want to play).

Thanks :)

If that is the case, I will just wait until Feb. That isn't too far away, plus I don't have a PS2 or X-Box. Sooner or later I am going to have to pick up one of them.

This needed a bump.

Gameplay 9.5!!!

Fielding is great. Throwing is great. Pitching is still great. Hitting is spectacular. The best baseball control since, um, MVP 2005.

Aw man, 2K is pissing me off now!

We will play for them, best out of 3!

It's a shame seeing the 7.9 overall rating over at Gamerankings.com

The absence of the MLB license is like minus 1.0

I stopped by Gamecrazy today and the guy didn't even know it was coming out :(

I checked online and Gamestop was sold out, man I wanted to play today.
