IGN Posts BF4 Comparison Video

The MP XB1 footage is amazing. You can clearly see the custom xbone upscaler flex it's muscles thanks to the additional resources freed due to the custom sound chip.

Oh my. I'm not the biggest Battlefield aficionado, but that was pretty spectacular.

First one, the flooded map just looks incredible. The second one's lighting is insanely beautiful. Right before sundown. The third one, all those green hills and mountains! The fourth one has that sexy rain/ocean. The fifth one may not be the most visually wow'ing, but it has those amazing sound effects with echoes.

You know what I got most from those?

Jack Frag is really good at Battlefield.

Hmmm, my eyes are terrible but I am not seeing a great deal in difference although I imagine this is something better seen in person.

Yeah, I also don't see too much of a difference between xbo and ps4, the quality of the video doesn't help

The whole thing looks like counterstrike. o_o

WTF ???

Hm hard to say how big the difference is exactly, with that compressed audio. It's really time for a service that provides decent 1080P videos and not the crap you get over Youtube or IGN etc.

I actually like it that the Xbone has no motion blur, It has no place in MP shooters...... Overall neither version looks that impressive, but again it's hard to derive anything meaningful from videos that are full of compression artifacts.

Am i the only one who is disappointed by this result? I mean with a bit more time they could make a better looking game on both consoles.

Yet the ps4 version in parity to the pc version. Maybe we need to step back see the bigger picture this is a cross gen release and exclusives will really show the difference

You know what, I take back my earlier complaints. If DICE can make 900p look that good on top of being 60 frames then I'm a happy camper. Pre-order Uncancelled.

To me these videos look absolutely stunning! I mean if you compare PS3 BF3 MP to this ... it really is a next generation leap to me.

I think people are also forgetting that its running 60fps and with 64 players online. Its definitely a huge leap up. About what I would expect from a cross-gen launch title. Games will looks so much better a few years down the road.

System comparisons aside, the 'jump' of this enemy between running and death animation around 1:38 in the video is not perfectly seamless...maybe it's cherry picking, but it's very obvious.

Likely this happened because the player was running towards the car and pressed the use key, which then made him mount the machine gun seat at the top.

So it's a small server side / client side sync issue.

Things each version does better:

PS4:

- Runs at 1600x900
- runs at better framerate
- has motion blurr
- has ambient occlusion
- better antialiasing

Xbone:

-

Panello was right it wasn't 30% it is more to me like 100%. Ambient occlusion alone is very taxing on hardware where in Xbone version there is none, that is beside worse framerate, worse resolution, worse aliasing and missing details like clouds in one of screenshots in Xbone version.

Right now both versions look when looked at 720p screenshots comparable but as soon as you will check them on 1080p set you will instantly see difference. Even this compressed 1080p IGN video shows how shimmering looks waaaaaaaaaaaaay worse on Xbone version because how low resolution is making aliasing in video even more noticeable.

That particular 30% comment from Albert Penello was always going to come back to haunt him. But now we have actual in game performance metrics, his statement is even more laughable.

Gamersyde where are thou??
It's 8.30am in France already, finish your coffee and upload those videos!

Gamersyde is the only site who deserves to be posting these videos. These sites trying to showcase next gen here at the end of 2013 with shitty quality 30fps videos are embarrassing.

So maybe that rumor of the Xbox One being able to handle more scripted sequences well (they used the word filmic but I refuse to) rather than more spontaneous free gameplay had some validity? I thought the Xbox One campaign footage was reasonably comparable and pretty impressive all things considered but there is a WAY bigger gap on the multiplayer side

fixed that for you. Can't believe people actually think a MP shooter should have motion blur.

Uhm, guys? The Xbox One picture is taken from a YouTube video, screenshots of a YT vid does not look nearly as good as it does "in real life". I could find a PC video and take such a screenshot myself easily.

I have seen Xbox One gameplay from that map, it's not nearly as bad as it looks in that picture. Maybe the textures had not loaded in properly. And I'm not a Xbox fanboy, I'm buying the PC version. Just sayin'

Its jaggie as hell in the IGN video.

It also looks like there's chromatic aberration "woozy" effects in the aftermath of nearby explosions on PS4, but no such effects on One.

Let's see, we do not have any version of BF4, be it PC, old-gen or next-gen, and we also don't have a PS4 or a XB1. This is going to be tricky ;)
And we have no idea if we'll get test consoles for any of the next-gen systems. Sony should support us, hopefully, but MS is looking highly unlikely.

Easy winner for me... While i do think the overall sharpness is a bit better on the XBOX version, i think the jaggies completely ruin everything.. so much needless noise in the image quality.

If you can see it on a compressed vid, imagine how visible it will be on a large screen without the compression.,

It is ridiculous, you are just about the only site that outputs decent quality footage. We should start a kickstarter for you guys or something, to get you guys proper funding. This is going to more of an issue with next gen.

Yeah, MP XB is definitely on low settings, no shadows and awful textures. PS4 on medium, still not great.

I'm sure DICE could have done better with more time, actually optimising instead of just cranking down a setting, but getting 5 versions of a game out, 2 on buggy launch consoles, is an amazing feat regardless.

Yeah definitely, this is my point, and why it's a bit of a mistake to showcase these as "next-gen" from these companies. The first set of games will look lousy... wait for the exclusives, and wait until these consoles are the lead platforms.

It's not a money problem, we just don't have the popularity required to get proper support from the publishers (and being based in France is also a huge problem too).
Doing high quality stuff might seem important to you (and us) but it's a very niche market. No one knows who we are outside of GAF and a few select sites like Beyond3D. Developers love us and are very happy that we exist to show how their games really look like, but publishers don't give a flying fuck.

I think people love coming into these threads just so they can join in the knee-jerk reactions and pat each other on the back, lol. But, PS3 owners had to suffer through crappier cross plat games for so long last gen, they do deserve a reason to rejoice now. But in all seriousness, I don't buy consoles for cross-plat games, especially console release versons. That's just me. I'm far more interested in 1st party offerings. I'll wait to see how both systems excel once developers get used to the different console strengths. See below for additional thoughts.

Both feels last gen.

Well, to be fair in spanish forums the "i'll wait for Gamersyde video" is very common this days, people wants to see non horrible compressed 1080p YT videos.

Yeah I forgot elotrolado, a major source of traffic for us :)
It's usually one forum per country though ;)

Hardly any diff, xbone is a bit shimmery in multi footage, otherwise both look the same to me... this place is ridiculous, that xbone multi pic everyone is quoting would look the same in the ps4 version, be honest here.
