IGN Super Princess Peach Review

jj984jj

He's a pretty swell guy in my books anyway.
There are two sides of the Super Princess Peach fence: on the one hand, you pretty much know what you're getting into with a game starring Nintendo's very, very female protagonist - a game most likely designed and marketed for the girl audience. On the other hand, it's a Nintendo developed platform game, and these generally have a level of expectation. It's an interesting balance, and ultimately Nintendo did a good job with Peach's first starring game. Even if it's a little too easy for the usual gaming crowd.

7.0 Presentation
It's a good and fun game design that downplays a lot of the DS creativity. It's biggest problem is that the meat of the game could have been done on GBA.
7.0 Graphics
The developers purposely held Princess Peach back into the old-school. Bright and colorful, but very conservative in processing.
8.0 Sound
The game definitely sounds like a Mario-style game with its soundtrack accomodating the action. The highpitched, gleeful princess voice may seem grating at first, but eventually it fits.
7.5 Gameplay
Nintendo's platformer experience shows through in this original design. The levels are fun but lack some of the more creative layouts of past Mario games. And this game is what we'd call "easy."
6.5 Lasting Appeal
Its difficulty level doesn't give this platformer a whole lot of lengthy challenge, but the purchasable mini-games extend the play a bit further.
7.8
Good OVERALL

Based on impressions this is what I expected. Their complaint about how most of it could be done on the GBA is stupid though, since it was a GBA game originally. It's a decent platformer, but it's also too easy. I might pick it up at a lower price for me & my little sister though.

I never thought this game would be that good. This is just something for the girls to pick up after Nintendogs but its nothing special about it at all.

for shame.
Plz leaving your trolling to GFAQs mono.

the comments sounds a bit stupid, if they know that the game is targeted at young girls, WHY they whine about their difficulty?

anyways the final score sounds about right... i'll get it at $15

This post is just another example of fanboys not knowing what they're talking about.

Anyway, I'll be picking this up. Looks awesome.

If peach wore a bikini and had some guns it'd be tEh MatUr3 and would rule lol

Not trolling in any way, shape or form freind.

Just saying that if Nintendo didnt only cater to one specific audience (young girls under the age of 13), then the game would have been better. They shouldnt limit their audience for gams like that, and it hurts all gamers in the long run (We are on the short end of the stick this time, next time it will likely be the 12 year old girls)

My biology doesn't include a vagina and my gaming tastes require a higher level of difficulty, so I'm going to pass, but, hey, there's a whole untapped market out there for cute, enjoyable, easy-ish games with sharp production values. Sincere kudos to Nintendo for actually trying to tap multiple audiences.

Um, hey IGN? It's not for the usual gaming crowd. It's obviously for younger people.

I don't think you quite get it.

I kid I kid!
Since Tose did this game and not EAD, it should not be a surprise. I just hope it isn't as easy as the Starfi games.

First of all, learn to spell. Don't they teach you anything about spelling in the NAVY? And second of all, your trolling is getting worse. What you're saying doesn't make any sense at all. Gamers at the short end of a stick in all Nintendo's games? :lol

My thoughts exactly, well said.

Agreed. Games don't cater for everyone like the same way that films don't cater for everyone. :)

It's insanely easy. And I played the japanese version and didn't have the hints you guys will get for the bosses.
I'd give the game a 7/10 myseLf. It's ok, but dull. I harshly compared it to Yoshi's Story before, but it's not THAT bad. :)

No, shame on you.

Right, I've read the review 3 times now and that's without doubt the worst review I've read in a long, long time. Nothing to do with the actual score, it's an average game, just the way it was written. Very difficult reading, needlessly so.

Anyway, the actual game is pretty average. It's pretty dull and way too easy, the lack of any challenge really hurts and the pace of some levels slows to an absolute crawl. Hard to recommend this at full price, but if you find it for $20, then I'd go for it. Just think of poor me who paid $50 for the import. :(

Has Tose ever made anything that wasn't mediocre or a port?

I find it sad that so many people can't seem to understand that there's a market for games that are just plain fun, and not stressful challenges. There's a place for those games too, but not every one needs to be like that.

So basically, I agree wholeheartedly with Mosaic.

Huh, didn't know Stafi was Tose. I used to associate them with "sweatshop programmers in China cranking out ports or unmitigated crap like Virtua Quest."

Their Japanese studio has made a few decent games like Sime Mori Mori Dragon Quest.

i typoed games and friend, omg that means i cant spellerz!!1!

Really tho, the point is that Nintendo didnt have to dumb down the game so much for it to be suitable for 13 year old girls, they could have had average difficulty and decent length and the game would have been suitable for EVERYONE it seems, not just little girls.

Nintendo is restricing their audience of the game for no reason whatsoever, that not trolling its the truth.

It is suitable for everyone. If you consider it suitable for you, is a different story entirely...

Is it tho?

People seem to be saying its just too damn easy for the average gamer, which makes it quite unsuitable for the average gamer who plays games for the reason of the feeling of accomplishment or enjoy a remotely challenging level or two and that is what makes gaming fun for them... tho i can understand if you play games for relaxation purposes only and simple-minded gameplay and you find that more fun.

Still i think the latter individuals would have still been happy with an average difficulty and longer SPP, but it doesnt work the other way around.

Odd, I thought EAD did this game. That's who the developer was under a few months ago. For a second, I was worried that EAD went back to making mediocre games, but thankfully that's not the case. :)

Ummm... right. Given that all those Starfi games are also insanely easy, this should not be a surprise or change the way Nintendo makes their games in the future, which is what you said before and just like a troll are trying to justify your post by changing what you said. And you also spelt friend wrong in your other post, I suggest reading it over three times before posting next time and maybe you'll catch all the spelling mistakes you made in it.

I don't think you quite get it.
What is IGN's audience? I don't think you quite get it.

I don't think IGN grades the latest Fairly Odd Parents game on a curve because it is made for children.

Seriously, this is a must buy to me, and I think IGN is made up almost entirely of douche bags, but to say Nintendo deserves special treatment is unfair.

Wow, people farm more stuff out to Tose than I'd thought. I still hate Sonic Rush though :(
Bottomless pits FTL, they need to stop being lazy with the level design. Dimps was the one who did this game though. I still thought it was decent compared to the Sonic Advance games, better design with the speed and level elements imo. Still nowhere near the Genesis games or Sonic 2 though. :(

Considering that the same reviewer gave Kirby and the Amazing Mirror an 8.0 and that was my third favorite game of 2004, a 7.8 looks really good to me on the scale of easy-yet-enjoyable sidescrolling Nintendo platformers.

Edit: Not trying to say that SPP will even come anywhere close to Kirby; I'd argue that even SMB3 and SMW just barely beat Kirby, as far as Mario platformers go. Just saying that the score really doesn't look as bad to me as it does to some. I expect to give it an 8.2 or so on my scale.

I heard it's harder the second time through? More levels, etc.?

It is by no means harder the second time through. After you beat it, which REQUIRES you to find 3 Toads, practically in your path, in each of the 40 non-boss leveLs, you can play the game over. There are 3 new Levels in world 1, and each time you rebeat a boss it unlocks 3 new LeveLs in the next world up. These new LeveLs are easier if anything, because there are no Toads to find and the coLlectibles are right in your path. The LeveLs you have aLready beaten have new coLlectibLes in them too, but again, they are not weLL hidden, and just aren't worth it, as they just unLock songs in the sound test, harder leveLs for the uninteresting minigames, and jigsaw puzzLes.

The game is cute, and I did enjoy all the Mario enemies Like torpedo ted. It's just not that exciting and not always fun, aka slow and dull at times.

Bingo... not every game needs to be targeted at the straight, white male 16-24 demographic. This isn't Xbox...

There is nothing wrong with Nintendo going after the kiddies. These kiddies will be the future 20-something cynical Nintendo fanboys one day. ;)

I'll pick it up, my gf loves mario, but gets pissed off if she dies to often. sounds like a good compromise.

What's the problem between you and Nintendo ?

Nintendo has made some of the best games in history, and Sony, as well, has made very good games (well, perhaps more the Third Party Developers, but OK).

So, stop please to say bullshit.

Super Princess Peach is a good game, but not as good as many thought.

It is clear that NOT all games by Nintendo are AAA title, but it is also clear that:

""It's not all gold what made light and it is not all shit what it doesn't appeal to you !""

(Or in Italien: "Non è tutto oro quello che fa luce e non è tutta merda quella che non piace !").

Nintendo Power gave it a 7.5.

I think its great that this game was made girly and easy. Nintendo is just trying to get the younger generation of girls (4-12) a chance at enjoying a video game without being too confused.

With that said, I'll probably never play this game, or know anyone who owns it.
