(sold seperately)

also, depends on price...

if the wireless is over $10 more, hell yeah i'm going wired, especially since it doesnt even come with the battery pack

AFAIK, the rechargeable pack is included.

If not...

Not a big deal, analogue buttons were a waste this gen other than the very few titles here and there that took advantage of them. The triggers are all the analogue I need for controllers, as buttons don't have enough travel for the sufficient 'feeling' of analogue when you're playing a fast paced game. One thing I know is that I hate playing racing games on PS2 cause there's no analogue triggers (not a fan of wheels), on the Type-S i love em. The triggers add a lot, and now with the shoulder buttons I don't have to look down at the pad to find the stupid black/white buttons anymore. X360 wireless pad is awesome

Wired controller is for people too lazy to recharge and people who still want rumble features.

You still get rumble with the wireless pad...

I still think the console name is stupid.
Dreamcast was one of the worst names in history and that caught on :) Hell, PlayStation really sounds stupid too...

Looking good, now if they just blow people away with the games at E3. X360 might just be the most user friendly system to date, features.........features and more features. Thank you for thinking of the customer!

You'll have a choice of the plain wireless controller, which runs off of a pair of AA batteries that should give you plenty of play time before running out, or you can also use the rechargeable battery pack (sold separately) with a play-charge cable, which temporarily turns your wireless controller into the wired variety, but only as long as it takes to recharge your gear.

or too smart to waste money buying batteries or charger packs when the console can provide power for the controllers

True... but if you're going to be dropping $300 for the console, I would imaging scraping up an extra $10-$15 for rechargeable batteries and a charger or for MS's recharger (thx for the info btw) shouldn't be much of a problem.

Personally, I'll have 2 nice wireless controllers (which will get used often) and then I'll have 2 cheap 3rd party controllers... probably wired. They will get used rarely.

Big deal when with games like enthusia where its nice to have L1 analogue for the clutch.

It'd be great if next-gen systems supported the bluetooth wireless headsets available for cellphones now.

Yeah, if only MS had gone one set further and did this. Ah well, can't win them all. As it is MS did a fantastic job overall.

i'm thinking 2 wired MS controllers and 2 wireless MS controllers... and not because i WANT wireless, but because there's only two damn front usb ports... if there were 4, i'd shoot for 4 wired controllers

I thought there were going to be USB ports on the back. What is under the cover that is above the network jack?

I actually think the Dreamcast had one of the best names of Recent systems.

In fact I think all of Sega's systems have had pretty good names, while pretty much every other system has had a bad name. Xenon could've been kindof cool but it ended up being the Xbox 360 (which I still don't think is THAT bad...just a little too long).

I still say Playstation is the king in terms of stupid names though.

If the Dual Shock and the Dreamcast pad had a night of passion, this controller would be the result.

Whether that is good or bad is an exercise for the reader. ;)

Playstation is a very stupid name. I'm happy that most people just call it PSX, 2, and soon 3.

Xbox 360 is pretty bad too. They should have put X360 is cooler...they should have put this on the side of the machine:

Big type: X360
Small type underneath it: Xbox 360

That way it would catch on as X360, like Sony did with putting PS2 on the site for their system.

the L and R triggers are analog, the L and R buttons (formerly black and white) are digital..

face buttons, dunno, but i assume analog...

What makes you say that? Dual Shock 2's L/R buttons are analog without being "triggers".

I just pray this and the PS3 have affordable HDMI cables. If you buy online they're like $30, but places like Radio Shack want $100 for HDMI cables. Here's hoping MS/Sony don't gouge.

They screwed up when they designed the original Xbox pad, then. There was no reason not to use the standard configuration.

Standard configuration? They're just some letters on the buttons. Did Sony screw up by putting the square and the triangle in the wrong positions? Developers will map the controls to their games to however they see fit and are not dictated by the letters.

The Wavebird was almost perfect - it had only two flaws - no rumble and not good for FPS. I honestly think Metroid doesn't have "mouselook" because the controller doesnt handle it well, rather than any game design decision. Also, the Wavebird's battery use was almost miraculous.

Yeah I know, but I've had two sets of batteries in two years. And one of those years had RE4 in it.

LOL am i rong?

Gamespot, in their big XBOX 360 article confirmed the wireless controller as the pack in standard, included WITH batteries. And it recharges by plugging it into one of the USB ports.

Go read the big ass article at Gamespot.

While there's nothing particularily innovative about the controller (Giant X button is good I suppose) it really has the combination of all the right features. I really like the Bl and Wh buttons have become shoulder buttons now (along with maintaining the triggers).

It hasn't really been brought up, but I can't see how games like SSX would play on this controller. Games like SSX required you to have fingers on all 4 shoulder buttons on the Dual Shock. I can't see how this would be possible (or very comfortable) on this controller. Using your middle fingers on the triggers while using your pointer fingers on the shoulder buttons sounds extremely uncomfortable.

I've always hated using all 4 shoulder buttons on the DS controller at the same time anyway. It just feels odd.

Yeah the thing about SSX and Street, etc. is that they're basically designed for the DS2 alone.

I don't think this controller is an improvement at all. And before this is taken as a troll, I have problems with all current controllers. One thing they all do is put the d-pad (left analog on PS2) and right analog at sharp, non-neutral angles that are simply not comfortable for long term play. These angles are not suited for directional input. Even delegating them to secondary controls doesn't always work. Interchangable sticks, pads and buttons are the answer, even if the pic posted doesn't look good. That, or a radically new layout that no one has considered.

Also, I hate the Dreamcast style triggers on this controller. This shape for triggers hurts after a while for games that use them a lot because of the damn sharp corners. Shoulder buttons never have such small contact space with sharp edges, why should triggers? This is a huge negative for such a great kind of button. Even the controller S had smoother ones, didn't it?

So all that plus the poor d-pad and you have another controller with all the problems of current controllers carried over, plus an older one (sharp Dreamcast triggers). And of course, I don't require it but I really, really prefer companies to try new ideas. It really sets the generation apart from the past one. Nothing this controller does will differentiate 360 games from X-Box games. There's nothing for me to be excited about.

I love rumble featrues in games, and was apprehensive about getting wavebird....but after playing with it, I never went back. The batteries last bloody forever too. they apprently last for 100 hours or something, which is like playing through 5 complete GC games, and seeing as they only came about one every two months, one set of batteries practically lasted a year!

I don't know if I'm praising or bashing nintendo now...

So you can turn the 360 on with the controller...? Hmm, is there a sleep mode on the 360 like the ps2?

What the hell is wrong with you people? Is plugging a headset into the controller that's IN YOUR HANDS too much of a hassle?

Looks toy-ish, but in a really good way. The D-pad looks crappy, like the xbox 1 controller, tough it's not like there are a lot of games that uses it. I really like this controller, and the on- off button is a really neat idea.

All it needs is a "home" button (or am I just missing it?) so the game will quick save and the xbox will activate the dash board for mp3\whatever playback. Next time you enter the game, it will auto load.

So I guess I will have to replace my Halo 2 headset? :( The new headset better be comfortable unlike the current cheap Xbox ones. Judging by the back of the console, I'll have to replace my video cables too... Deathcraze am cry...
