IGN talks 360 controller

Yet another device designed to remove even more muscle mass from the already emaciated, hard-working American youth.

There is nothing worse than being comfortable in bed on a freezing cold night and having to get up to turn off the console. :)

Love the shoulder button/trigger combo. nice controller. :)

edit: whats with the 1,2,3,4 numbering around the "X" logo?

Dude, you gotta read the site I linked :lol It tells you what player you are when you're playing with friends.

I've used the 360 controller and it fuckin' rules.

Easily my favorite ever.

Before that, the little Genesis six button.

Whoa - the Genesis six-button is my current favorite controller ever....if this one is better than it then it's gotta be pretty much perfect.

And it is dead sexy.

Greatest. Idea. Ever. I hate being in bed after a long gaming session and having to go over to the console to turn it off.

You can turn it on with it too. So you could get up in the morning, press the X on the controller and game away :)

Harware wise MS is tops, just talking about it makes me want to pre-order this bitch right now.

Aside from the directional pad, everything else about the controller just seems fantastic. As many have said, while it isn't exactly revolutionary, it is an extremely well thought out controller and will likely oust my GC controller as the most comfortable one out there.

That is easily the greatest controller ever devised by mankind. This is what I have had in my mind as my dream Xbox 1 controller for awhile now. It dealt with every single thing I wanted...

- More outward pointing and longer handles (to keep wrists from pointing in and palms comfy)
- Bl and Wh buttons on top as shoulder buttons
- Wireless
- No bulky memory card slots wasting space
- Regular headphone/microphone jack (compatible with all our own stuff)
- Extra middle button for Xbox Live stuff (it's actually 4 buttons in reality)

...this controller is EXACTLY what I had dreamed up in my head for the Xbox 1. I was hoping they would come out with this kinda like Nintendo did with Wavebird.

Wouldn't have minded seeing some analog sliders or maybe even the 6 face button design of the old sega controllers. ;) But I'm not complaining. This thing is designed to near perfection.

Indeed, the only thing holding me back from pre-ordering is Perfect Dark Zero looking like ass.

I don't really like the Xbox controller and it seems pretty similar. I might be doomed. ;(

I dream of a gamepad that's having joystick like the Dualshock and that is comfortable for the hand as the GC pad is.

Eughh, one of the things that Sony has to do is to get RID of those awful DualShock analog stick and replace them with something more tight.

The Xbox analog sticks are fine, but I prefer the GC ones.

The 360 pad is pretty much the new DualShock of next-generation. It's pretty much versatile for every type of games, even the D-pad looks improved from those screenshots.

Yeah, but with the Logitech and the Wavebird that bulge was passed on to the body of the controller. With the X360 it's neatly placed in a little box underneath the controller, so it doesn't alter the shape (making the thing bulkier) of the controller and keeps it out of the way of the tips of your fingers too. It's an intelligent design IMO.
You still have to either squint your fingers into that crevice, (or put them over the bulge, which if it's anything like Logitech, feels weird as the grip is off since it's not meant to be held like that)

Wasn't there mention that the power button also monitored players? I would be cool (in a gimmicky sense) if it could use different colored quadrants that displayed what color skin a given player had selected for their character.

The only thing I wish this controller had is 6 face buttons ala the SS controller or Genesis 6 button revision.

...but even then, the B and W shoulder buttons make that not all that necessary for me.

This is possibly the best controller ever made. :o

Now that we've got some decent looking pictures of the controller in here, let's throw in some better shots of the hardware casing.

All in all, a much, much better job on MS's part this time around.

shoot man, I'm afraid that big dooky block in the back will rub against my fingers. I had this problem with the Dreamcast controllers and I got blisters once.

Damn, think of the possibilities!

-You can always have the controllers on the nightstand.
-You can fire it up while you're watching TV and after the dashboard and loading etc... you can just flip to video and start right away.
-Now if they came out with a way to download the games directly to the HD and never have to physically load a disc, no one would ever know what the console even looked like

- Extra middle button for Xbox Live stuff (it's actually 4 buttons in reality)

Wait so it's 4 buttons? each piece around the X is it's own button? I didn't realize that.

But when we were speculating before the reveal that's EXACTLY what I said, and that each piece corresponds with a player number.

+1 me :)

Wowie, that's awesome functionality. Too bad it looks and probably feels like shit.

The DC controller had that damn bulge, and it wasn't even wireless. Good job Sega.

Gek can't say anything nice about the X360. I really think Sony implanted a chip in him of something, either that or we're talking to Ken himself.

Great controller. I wanted shoulder buttons on the original s pad (screw the b/w buttons!). I hope they kept the sticks or maybe even improved .:X They were great on the original. Everything looks good. I hope you can turn off the light. The LED light on the dual shock 2 bugged the hell out of me in the dark. YEAH, I GET IT ANALOGUE IS ON!

sorry, i know I had read somewhere that you could press it in four spots with different results. but maybe that was just speculation or sumfin. woulda been cool tho.

It actually feels pretty good and its nice that it allows you to adjust the stiffness of the analog sticks. Its great being able to swap the layout for certain games. Both sticks high for FPS and Left stick low right stick high for ARCADE racing games. The 360 controller is the best I have seen but these options would have added even more valued functionality. It wasnt an attack to the 360 so you guard bees can go back to the hive....jesus.

Haha, that was my speculation. And yeah, it would have been cool.

just so you guys know the wireless controllers dont come with rechargable batteries, thats extra but i think it only runs on 1 AA battery unless i didnt read it correctly (cant remember where i read it).

also, does anyone know if the controller packed in the box is wireless or wired yet?

:lol that's funny how news can come around like that, almost confriming itself, using itself :lol

anyhow, is it confirmed that this controller will work with the PC? that would kick a lot of ass if so! I also like this, from the review..
The controller has feedback motors like the Controller S, but this time around you'll have four strength options (including off) to adjust the rumble to your liking.

Bill Gates confirmed it

And he revealed that the game controllers for the next-generation Xbox 2 will be Longhorn compatible, providing a single controller for both video game consoles and PCs.

I'm pretty sure it's 2 AA. And no it hasn't been confirmed if the pack-in is Wireless or not, but considering how much MS is stressing wireless as a key feature (and that they didn't even mention the corded controller when unveiling the system), I wouldn't be surprised if the wireless pad were packed-in. That said, they could go the "we gotta make money this gen" route and pack the regular one it :P

rechargeable battery pack. Plus if you barely ever use the wireless, you could always just leave it plugged in with the USB rechargeable cable. The corded controller is useless, unless they made it for the sole reason as to pack it in with the system and sell teh wireless separately for a premium :(

i wonder if they got Mizuguchi to design this one also.

in any case, it's an improvement over controller-s. so take that as you will.

Nintendo will not give each player one controller rather one for each hand.

Brilliant!

Simply brilliant.

Since it hasn't been mentioned at all, I guess the 360's buttons aren't analog like the PS2's...?
the L and R triggers are analog, the L and R buttons (formerly black and white) are digital..

face buttons, dunno, but i assume analog...

also, depends on price...

if the wireless is over $10 more, hell yeah i'm going wired, especially since it doesnt even come with the battery pack
