not only is Gummi Bears not on that list, but neither are Heathcliff, Eek! the Cat, and Bobby's World!

This post makes no sense. You'll ignore FG because it's great, but you won't ignore Ren and Stimpy because...? Help me out here.omg rite said:I'll ignore the Family Guy part (since it's great). But uh..
You think Ren and Stimpy is bad? WTF?

I thought that mad hatter episode was actually pretty good.Rorschach said:The letters are all jumbled! IT'S A DREAM! BAILOUT!
I have to admit that. even though Batman is one of my favs, the first few eps are unapologetic elementary school fodder and the animation is subpar at best.
Christmas With the Joker is so bad... you have The Joker escaping Arkham on a rocket Christmas tree. :lol And that's not even the campiest part of the episode. I still like those episodes for what they are, but it's kind of embarrassing watching them with others around.

Don't get me wrong. I love TAS. I'm a huge whore for it.my name is ed said:I thought that mad hatter episode was actually pretty good.
And yes, there plenty of bad episodes but there were some really great ones which is the reason gaf is all over Batman: TAS like stds on a hooker.
I'm not talking about the whole first season. I'm talking about the first few episodes.Big Icarus said:What?!? The series premiered with the Feat of Clay episodes. I think you picked out the one episode from the first season that was campy and poorly animated. That series was gold from the start, and was never at any point "elementary school fodder". Totally deserves to be in second place. Should still be in the top ten in a real globally conscious ranking of animated series.

Big Icarus said:Futurama is highly over-rated IMO. It doesn't deserve to be in the top ten. I want to see some Venture Bros. in that top ten. That's a show that does nerd humour right, without any ham fisted saccharine love story BS that Furturama has been ruined with.
Oblivion said:Have you ever seen the episodes on Spike T.V.?
The Ren and Stimpy Show (which lasted 5 years and 52 episodes) does not equal Ren and Stimpy "Adult Party Cartoon" (which lasted 1 year and 10 episodes)...Oblivion said:

Duck Amuck said:What's wrong with being episodic? Being "epic" isn't the point of Bebop. I always like it when anime fans bring up Bebop being episodic is some kind of dent against it.
Batman is episodic too. Do you think that's overrated? Bebop is one of the top ten anime's no question. It's kind of hard to put both japanese and western animation on the same list though.
Duck Amuck said:The episodic nature for Bebop makes it my most rewatched anime. I know most of the lines by heart.
I watched Black Dog Serenade maybe once a day for the span of a week.
Best anime tv series ever.
slade said:Episodic is too boring to watch in marathon sessions. You get sick and tired of the characters and their same old schticks. I watched Bebop after the show had been out for at least two or three years and I watched it in a marathon session. Almost didn't get to the end of the session because the damn thing ended up being too boring. Now the movie, that was good and not because of the Bebop characters.
bitq said:lol I loved the series but didn't like the movie. maybe try not watching it in a marathon?

DieNgamers said:No my list at all... The top 10 does nothing for me. Ducktales should have been higher, for example! Also the lack of anime near the top ten is disturbing. I guess in my country that list would have looked much different =)
I guess that's true. They could have called it the best cartoons or something^^ That said, all the 90s Disney cartoons need to be in (or closer to) the top ten!SonicMegaDrive said:There shouldn't have been any anime on the list, period. There's just so many and they all have different standards than western-made shows. There is just no contest.

Oblivion said:Is that the criteria for what belongs on this list? Cause that would make FG being on here legitimate.
And putting The Simpsons at #1 doesn't even make sense unless you ignore OVER A DECADE of consistently horrible episodes.
omg rite said:Oh, it's perfectly legitimate. An insanely popular show that people continue to love? Sounds like a good criteria to me.
Having like 8-10 years of greatness kind of makes up for that. The popularity and influence of the show, mixed with the quality it showed for like 10 years? Nothing shocking about that being #1.

Now THAT'S an animated top 100, this IGN list is more "Top 100 rose tinted nostalgia cartoons by everyone in their 20-somethings". I've seen worst lists, though.7Th said:At the 2003 Laputa Animation Festival, 140 animation artists and film critics from around the world were asked to list the 20 best animated productions. These lists were then combined into one with 150 titles on it. The list was widely reported in the Russian press because places #1 and #2 were taken by Yuriy Norshteyn's films "Hedgehog in the Fog" and "Tale of Tales". It's obviously a much better list than IGN's.
But that's who made the list and that's who they made the list for. Why does everything has to be culturally relevant? Don't get me wrong the ones he named are classic and have inspired many great filmmakers, but this list is just for fun and for a big audience. I do believe most people haven't even heard of Hedgehog in the Fog. That's not to say it doesn't deserve its place, but in this particular list it would not belong.Gagaman said:Now THAT'S an animated top 100, this IGN list is more "Top 100 rose tinted nostalgia cartoons by everyone in their 20-somethings".
