IGN: ZombiU Video Preview

Same here. I may end up playing Nintendo Land for a few weeks until those prices get down to a more reasonable level. I mean £49.99 for Ass Creed 3? That's 10 quid more than the PS360 versions! It's exactly the same game! wtf?!

Shops do this every hardware launch, i reckon if you look around youll get the games normal price launch day.

WiiU has 1Gb of memory to play with. There is no excuse for low resolution texture. High resolution textures should be a given straight out the gate.
No offense but you sound like someone who knows nothing about game design. Budget and time are the two most prevailing factors for how a game looks.

Since it is already known that this game has a modest budget, we know that this was a limiting factor. We also know that this game is a launch title and had only been in its current incarnation since after E3 last year.

So we're talking a modest budget FPS, with a development period of around 16 months and on dev-kits that were only recently finalized. I shouldn't even have to break all of this down to someone, as many of these things are simple common sense. Expecting Assassins Creed or Bioshock is rather ridiculous. Games with that level of detail take years to make, at a hefty cost, and will almost never make a systems launch.

Back on subject. The game looks great. Can't wait to get lost in this world. You could cut the atmosphere with a knife.

There's a great Zombi U interview in french print magazine IG.

We learn the best Ubisoft playtester took 12h30mn to reach level 14 (out of 17).

Nintendo sent the Mario club team to test/debug the game.

Replayability is excellent thanks to the persistant semi open world. Every playthrough is different with zombis located at different positions.

Oh. Well I have no doubt about the quality of it then. Nintendo sending the Mario Club team means it's got proper QA. That's something most Ubisoft games don't have.

I've got my WiiU preordered already so i'm good to go in that department, but i was wondering if i should preorder ZombiU or take the chance and see if its available day 1 as a download. I would prefer to download it so the disc isnt spinning all the time plus less noise. I take it there wont be an option to install a disc to a hard drive right?
You should go ahead and preorder. With Black Friday and holidays right after the release, this might be one of those hard to find titles

So, there are levels? How does that work with open world? It's just a hub like that recent Wolfenstein game? :/

For launches I usually allow a little extra for games just in case.

Nintendo games never drop in price so might as well get NSMB immediately, and zombiU looks like the only other must have at launch.

I hope there is time to have reviews before launch though, in case any of the Multiplatform titles stand out - even better textures or a more solid framerate would have me considering assassins creed for instance

You get a mini-map I believe in safe houses that allow you to travel to other safe houses.

So I guess more like a quick travel system?

And each level is probably a specific area.

I was referring to the fact it's not really open world if there are in factual actual numbered levels you go through in a linear fashion, from 1 to 14 to 17, to game's end. Whether you can backtrack to previous levels via quick travel or not.

I think that's talking more about the skill level system. Remember your characters can level up in the game and when you die you lose all those levels that character had and have to re-level from scratch.

Why would lvl 17 be the max level if that's really what they're talking about there? That's abstract.

But they mention how long it took to reach the 14th... Sounds like linear progression is involved otherwise why would the time it took matter or show anything at all about the game's length... And they said levels.

Honestly....game looks like a shit.
IGN preview was just good marketing .
The game doenst look impressive but say it looks like shit doenst add or lead to anything.
I wasnt impressed by the game either but the last gametrailers walktrough look very good

..hmmm...(Has no avatar).... you sir added nothing to this topic. If your going to say something at least break it down why you feel that way. Otherwise it just looks like trolling and if you keep that up, it bye bye neo gaf!

What about the GameTrailer and Gamesradar previews?

Also, it might not be great looking (to you), but the gameplay sure does look like it makes up for it.

Game looks brilliant was just going to borrow my brothers copy sometime (he ordered the zombiu pack me the NL one) but may have to pick this up myself

it wasn't shit at NYCC; just merely mediocre. Since Zombie U appears to be the only game at Wii U launch that isn't either a port, NSMB or mini-games, so I guess I'm getting it by default, but I really hope the final game has more enjoyable mechanics. It is a great concept, but it played like a 6.0 level shooter. Some of the stuff talked about in the IGN video though make me at least slightly more optimistic, I really hope the game comes into its own when you have a long period of time to play and have to really be concerned with resource management.

Like all games, I'll wait for reviews before buying. But it sure looks great and I fully plan on buying day 1 assuming scores of 8 or higher.

Speaking of Red Steel, was there any demos of it before release, at E3 and such? Surely we should have seen that turd coming, right?

there were definitely demos. i think some places started sounding the alarm closer to launch, though.

A lot of people noted its rough state at E3 though, but the idea of motion sword+gun stuff was too much for many and they just rode the concept on a wave of euphoric hope :P

I only remember promotional videos with that dude jumping and taking cover behind his sofa. Good times mang, good times.

There should be ZombiU videos with people playing underneath blankets.

It's hard to find now, but I believe there were some previews saying how unpolished/janky it was before the Wii's release.

So they were just being polite about it being shit?

I got burned by that game, damn it. :/ ZombiU looks good, but I swear to God if I get fooled by another Ubisoft launch title...

Dtoid preview:

ZombiU will undoubtedly be one of the most talked about titles of the Wii U’s launch lineup. In many ways, this game feels like a successful mix of the scares and tension from the classic Resident Evil series, along with the hardcore mechanics of From Software’s Souls games. I feel as if this could be a runaway hit for gamers looking for a uniquely challenging experience, and what better way for Nintendo to attract core gamers?

ZombiU at NYCC already seemed better than Red Steel ever was, so there's that.

That said, I will be looking at it with my typical "launch window" skepticism. How much content does the game have? How much of it is repeated to arbitrarily extend length? How polished is the visual engine? Does it contain industry standard functionality, or was some of it cut to rush to launch? We already know online is not really implemented for the multiplayer, so it's all in the bag for review.

This. Though its not hard to look at the RS topic from that time and see the writing was on the wall. Ubisoft had dumb ideas on controls and refused to address concerns based from what people were saying.

The one thing I want to see the most in ZombiU is secret. Secret areas, secret bosses, secret loot. That's the best damn thing about the Souls games, so I hope they also took inspiration from that part.

Are there "bosses" in ZombieU? That'd be cool if there was...

Besides the messy controls I liked Red Steel, It was a good idea that didnt work well because the lack of 1:1 motion controls...
Honestly I would like to see Red Steel 3 on Wii U :))))
