That's a pretty weak list there. Lots of characters missing there. Also what is the deal with that #1? What kind of world do they live in?

I like Shinji as a character, but he's at best in the top 10, maybe.

Holy shit what an awful list. I don't know what criteria they were using, but it sure as hell wasn't quality of writing and psychological complexity.

Seriously, Goku and Vegeta? Generic and simplistic ciphers for 13 year old boys to project onto? and when they get around to picking a Ghibli character, they go with Nausicaa, the most Mary Sue-ish of all Miyazaki protagonists?

There are many factors involved here: legacy, impact, recognition. But for this list, the most important factor was artistic greatness. We were looking for characters who were something special for their time; unique and powerful in their own way. But, most importantly, we selected characters who changed what we thought anime could be. Characters who weren't so special didn't make the cut, even if they're famous. Sure, there are many anime characters who are wildly famous and provide the engine for a commercial machine, but sales and marketing don't make a character great. Skillful writing, design, and ingenuity make a character great.

Artistic greatness my ass. Reading between the lines, it seems like they were going for influential characters ("legacy, impact, recognition"; "changed what we thought anime could be"). Presumably influential for a 14 year old boy.

My anime experience is not broad enough for me to make a competing list, but I could sure as shit do a better job than that.

So 3 non-CN appearances.

I will give IGN a clap for putting Ouran Haruhi over Haruhi Haruhi. But even Ouran Haruhi has no place on a top 25 character list.

There's probably more than three. I don't believe GTO ever aired on CN, I don't think Lain did? And Hellsing I'm unsure on...I want to say it did? But I'm not sure.

I'm not sure on GTO, but I think they did air lain long ago, but might be thinking of something else.

Yonafunu, two wrongs don't make a right! Firstly, the world is corrupted by IGN making another list, then you go and post it here to spread the calamity further still!

I have to be one of the few guys in the world who didn't like Light that much. Maybe I am unfair because I used Johan as my standard for a villain in term of quality.

Johan was cool at first...but then he ended up being disappointing.

Dio Brando? Gintoki? P-San?

I wish negative feelings towards to the compiler of this list.

Shinji at #1? WTF.

Also prefer L over Light.

Happy to see the likes of Goku and Vash on the list but does seem "safe" as other said in that it's like it's based off when I was into anime.

I'm thinking about watching Monster despite having already read the manga. But 74 episodes.. ain't nobody got time for that.
