need to know this before i buy

I HAVE a computer that approaches the Xbox's specs (GeForce 4 ti 4400, 768 megs of ram, Athlon 1600+ xp ) that I'm currently typing this post on (my 'net' pc). I have issues with some of those benchmark tests-- have doom 3 on it, for home-lan deathmatches and such. the game will only run in 640 x 480, at about 15 fps, with most of the advanced shading turned off, at the lowest texture quality. On my HDTV, D3 on the xbox is nearly--nearly comparable to a computer running the game at medium settings. The textures look a bit better in most areas, the realtime cinematics have no stutters and retain much of their visual impact, and the framerate stays around 30 most of the time. To say nothing of the fact the Xbox version loads a hell of a lot faster at startup and between stages. It's certainly not a replacement for the high-quality PC version, but for those people who can only play the Xbox version, they aren't missing a damn thing.
Splitscreen is only in Ultimate DOOM and DOOM 2, so probably. The DOOM 3 game has no split screen.Jacobi said:Is the framerate steady at 2P-splitscreen coop ?
StRaNgE said:played co-op last night, was a blast...
although the only co-op i saw for Doom II and ultimate was split screen.
I was told that those 2 were on xbox live co-op as well but i'm starting to think i was told wrong.
anyone know for sure?
It runs better than I saw it run on any PC (though the textures are low-res, and it's really obvious in the hand textures).
I must have just been imagining my PC running doom 3 at High Quality 1280x1024, absolute rock solid 60 fps

I must have just been imagining my PC running doom 3 at High Quality 1280x1024, absolute rock solid 60 fps, and in all the original PC levels without anything toned down. My Audigy 2 ZS and Klipsch 5.1s sounding awesome was clearly a figment of my imagination as well.
My PC is better than average, but even then a modest PC with a 9600 Pro to a 6600 GT easily goes beyond Xbox.
And before someone again says Xbox is more efficient...it is. I'm not arguing against that at all. When you strip down the game and design it specifically for a static piece of hardware, of course it's going to be more efficient.
You seem a bit firm in your stance on Doom 3 running poorly. WHY?dark10x said:Yes, you must have. That isn't possible. There is NO PC on the market that can run Doom 3 at a ROCK SOLID 60 fps.
Just out of curiousity, what are your specs?

Mrbob said:Don't you have UT 2004 for the PC? UC2 sounds decent but if you have UT2004 for the PC I see no major reason to get UC2.
I'd just stick with Jade Empire. The other games will be just filler.
You teh_pwn'ed everyone. Congrats.
I wasn't trying to come off as an ass, but it is much deserved for someone that believes the Xbox version looks better than any PC running it.
um, the xbox version looks better than doom 3 does on my PC. my PC is appox. 5 years old. what say you now?
I HAVE A DUAL K5R4X2 PROCESSING MODULATOR WITH 8 GB RAM PLUS A FRONTSIDE 8402K CACHE GENERATOR AND MY FLUCTUATOR OVERCLOCKS THE 9GHZ PROCESSING BUS BY A QUANTITIATIVE AMOUNT OF X TO THE 9TH POWER! YOU LOSE XBOX

Anyanka said:Ugh, the controls on original DOOM are way to sensetive. It feels like you're sliding.

dark10x said:The PCs you had taken a look at must have been pretty awful. Both of my PCs run the game very well at the highest detail levels (with the higher-end of the two pulling 60 fps a good majority of the time). There is no question that it looks and runs much better than the XBOX version.
newsguy said:Can anyone confirm is the XBOX version has a brightness/contrast setting in-game? All dark games need to do this, I can't play this on the big screen without it.
Joe said:not sure why this game got shit on, its awesome so far. and i dont mind the darkness or using the flashlight i think it sets a great mood for the game.
one question, how the hell do i watch those video disks i keep picking up?
ManaByte said:can't you do it on your TV?
