ILL - First Look Trailer | Summer Game Fest 2025

Been following this for years. After being so quiet… they finally have something to show. This is actually the one I am waiting for the most, out of all the games shown.

Been a fan of the 3d artist that founded this studio since well before he threw his hat in and claimed to be making a game.
His level of stubborn perserverence in solving complicated problems was around long before this. I can't believe they've pulled it off but I'm really stoked to see it happen.

It looks very interesting. The gunshot reactions from the enemies are impressive. Hopefully they don't downgrade in the final version

Fucking finally, i followed this thing since the first trailer and it was worth.

Hey capcom, this is how you make first person shooting in an horror game, watch and learn.

Their deformation tech on the bodies/flesh look miles apart from the new Dead Space or Callisto Protocol.
They were radio silent, but I read bits and pieces that they were fully committed to refining that tech. This was like 3-5 years ago?

Looks insane. It is like a playable body horror movie.

Haha wtf is this movie? Gotta see this.

Anyway, game looks very interesting. Always down for some good horror. Hopefully it can create a proper vibe without too many cheap jumpscares.

Callisto gore is pretty shit, not even worth a mention, dead space was infinitely better gore tech wise.

Dead island 2 Is current king but ill look even better.

Callisto was alright, it had the overall graphics presentation looking more than stellar... God, why couldn't they have just done a Dead Space clone with the mechanics?
It was 'Viscerals' Return to form and.. fuck. It was like hyping myself to the ends of the Earth, only to meet a fucking disappointing wall.

Graphic was great, gore was literally average with no high point whatsoever, even rdr2 dismantle the gore of that game without being an horror game.

I'm a sucker for good gore even in bad games, and i don't remember to ever been impressed by the gore of callisto once.

Finishers from enemies were cute, nothing more.

It came at a time when I was kind of starved for horror and gore. But, ultimately, I agree.

That movie is called Society.
Society
Also, fun fact: Billy Warlock was in this movie. He is the son of the Legendary Dick Warlock. Stuntman and Stunt Coordinator, among other things. Such as Michael Meyers from Halloween 2. I also think Billy was in that movie, carrying a "Ghetto Blaster" on his shoulders, passing up the shape after a slight bump (into his Father, that is)

"There are four founders of Team Clout," ILL's game director and studio co-founder Max Verehin says. "We had an idea to make a brutal horror game with physics and decided to make a few videos that could represent our vision. It was a really small development to begin with. The road was bumpy. There were a lot of issues with location, team, and stuff like that.

"And then we sat and thought 'hey, we should really start developing seriously, full time.' In summer 2023 we got together with Mundfish Powerhouse, and that was the moment when actual serious production started. We built the team. We finished the playable internal demo."

You might recognize that name Mundfish – it's the studio that developed Atomic Heart. Powerhouse is a spin-off, boutique label built to find, publish, and co-create, in the studio's own words, the "next generation of standout games". With Powerhouse's backing, Team Clout has been able to grow into a studio of some 50 full-time developers and work on ILL in earnest. No longer the stuff of concept videos, everything that we've seen since 2023 has been captured in game.

"ILL is something that all four founders wanted to play in the future," Verehin continues. "We're inspired a bit by Half-Life 2, specifically the pacing, and how the story is told. It's that feeling that the whole journey is in front of you, that you start here and you need to get there. And that feeling that the world is alive. We're trying to bring a piece of that into our game. We're also pushing the physics-based elements. This could just be stuff in the levels – objects, breakable stuff. When you enter a room in ILL and there's a fight, after the fight, you'll see the room has changed because stuff isn't glued to the floor.

"We're also trying to push physics with enemies as well. I'm not saying our enemies are going to be procedural, but we are pushing the feeling. When you shoot an enemy, you feel that it's physics based, even though we're using some cheat codes and it's partly animated. You shoot an enemy, he falls, hits another enemy, and they react."

"Gore is really important," Verehin explains. "Maybe you remember Soldier of Fortune, where when you killed an enemy, you just wanted to see how the gore would work. We want players to be excited to explore this system. It's about how the enemy reacts to being hit – we want you to be able to see how the enemy's behavior changes if you shoot off their body parts. In one of the trailers, you might remember there's an enemy who loses its hand and then looks down to look at where its hand should be. This is part of our gore.

"But it's not just about the visuals. We also want you to feel the sound. If you shoot a revolver in a corridor, you'll feel like it's in a corridor. The sound of the shot itself is brutal and impactful. And our enemies are not regular zombie-like monsters. They do really sadistic stuff. This dismemberment system will change them, too. If they lose a limb, another enemy can be born from that limb."

This is one of those fake looking games. Looks too good to be true, we'll see

Lui, we used to say the same thing about BM Wukong, Stellar Blade, Crimson Desert, Atomic Heart, Phantom blade zero etc etc and yet, not only did they not turned out to be vaporware but... actually good (granted, PB0 and CD aren't out yet).

Maybe the initial trailers were indeed bullshit but the last one looked legit, games CAN look good nowadays if the devs put some actual work in them, have faith ! 😁

Edit : Mundfish is involved ? That's actually reassuring, it'll most probably look like that then !

Question is, was the trailer running off a high end PC or console was it in game footage or cgi these are questions i must have answers to !!!

The game release is set for "sometimes in the future".

Safe to say this is a ps6 game.

They only started full production in 2023.

The guy behind this game (Max Verehin) has two interesting Instagram pages filled to the brim with creepy art and (AI) videos. With the stuff he comes up with during the day, I bet his nightmares are pure relaxation.

I'd like doom to have realistic graphics like this but still keep the rip and tear over the top gameplay.

I hope this will be as good as the trailer makes it look as it looks amazing.

Why don't the devs get this through their skulls? One reason people get hyped because of CGI trailers is the animation work. Animation work puts games on a higher level, invest in animation!

That was insanely amazing, if they can deliver on half of that level of fidelity for actual gameplay it will still be leagues ahead of the competition.

Hey capcom, this is how you make first person shooting in an horror game, watch and learn.
I'm still pissed that Capcom went balls deep in RE2R with the damage models and gore only to drop it instantly. The way ripping the zombies apart felt in that was a big part of the game feel imo.

I love the dynamisms here. This is what I was imagining what next-gen would be like after PS4. Could we finally see a new resurgence in physics based gameplay again?

Now this is the level I expected from this gen of consoles. And as the dev is some unknown to me I guess the trailer is bullshot, because it looks too good to be true. Will keep an eye on it for sure.

Yep, Dark Ages should have been what you say, being a current gen only title, yet it looks worse in many ways than the previous games…

Best game I've seen so far. I'm happy about games finally having location based damage(Onimusha to a lesser degree) that matters. Looks amazing. I'm not so hot on first person games but the star of the show is the damage and the monsters, so I don't mind here. Finally. Been waiting since Soldier of Fortune.
Try dead island 2 or half sword demo on steam.

Man, this guy has a sick Fantasy

It's still fake

Always looked impressive cause it was never real gameplay. And I doubt its gameplay now.

Every scene in the trailer was animated by hand. It doesnt look dynamic at all.

I would be cautious with this one
