In retrospect, which major acquisitions do you think turned out for the best.

Here are a few notable acquisitions from wikipedia:

EA bought Respawn 2017
Microsoft bought Mojang 2014
Facebook bought Oculus 2014
Sega bought Relic 2013
Sony bought Gaikai 2012
Square Enix bought Eidos 2009
Activision merged with Blizzard 2008
EA bought Bioware/Pandemic 2007
Bandai bought Namco 2005
Microsoft bought Rare 2002
Microsoft bought Bungie 2000

Obviously there are newer acquisitions and mergers, but time has yet to tell the impact.

Which of these events has turned out positive and which less so?

What other smaller gaming acquisitions and mergers stand out in your mind?

Sony buying Insomniac.

Also, these acquisitions worked out fairly well I'd say. Maybe not for the consumer, but rest assured somebody getting paid:

worst : activision killing best in blizzard
best : respawn -> made ea more likable to me

edit : didn't see it but MS-> bungie is the best one by far.

Microsoft buying Bungie is pretty big considering what Halo did to the Xbox brand for many years.

Yeah, it was insane to me that they split in 2007.

WRT Respawn, Fallen Order wasn't quite my cup of tea, but I did like where they were headed and am hopeful for the sequel. I didn't care for Apex Legends at all though. I would say it had been positive so far.

Bungle is unquestionably it. Mojang was pretty cool, in that the game continued on as ever, just with the dollar signs headed in a different direction.

It's interesting that Microsoft has the best and worst examples.

MS made plenty of money off Minecraft

MS buying Mojang was and still is huge.

How did that really help them though? MS had been sitting on rare for years without much of a peep and in retrospect rare's games barely sold on xbox.

Bungie, Mojang and even though it's not in the OP list I think Insomniac is a good one.

In retrospect i don't like a single one of those.
I also don't like MS buying Bethesda.
What's stopping MS from buying Sony itself or Nintendo ?
It's all an e Penis show, not a real most-talented-developer one.
