Indiana Jones and the Great Circle was successful enough that Disney reportedly "picked up the phone and wants more"

Indiana Jones and the Great Circle has been (ahem) a pretty great play, but it's also been a seemingly great success as rights holder Disney reportedly wants more Indy games in the future.

That comes courtesy of Windows Central journalist and leaker Jez Corden who said he's "heard that Disney picked up the phone and wants more Indiana Jones" in an episode of the Xbox Two podcast - weeks after Machine Games and Bethesda launched their own first-person take on the iconic tomb raider's adventures.

Just earlier this month, Lucasfilm Games vice president and general manager Douglas Reilly spoke about the possibility of more whip-cracking adaptations, too. While nothing's officially in development, Reilly said the teams are "always looking for great stories... And the good news is, there's a lot of space in between the films where we could tell more and more Indiana Jones stories that I think would be super interesting."

We don't have any official numbers for how well Indiana Jones and the Great Circle is doing now, but Circana's Mat Piscatella revealed that it was the second best-selling game in its first full release week in North America, trailing only Call of Duty: Black Ops 6, despite being available on Xbox Game Pass at launch. Our Indiana Jones review, among others, was glowing with praise. And even after vowing that no one else could play the character, Harrison Ford even gave props to the game itself and Troy Baker's "great" performance.

With critical acclaim, solid commercial success, Harrison Ford's blessing, and seemingly Disney's confidence behind them, the team at Machine Games could probably expand on its new unique brand of Nazi-bashing, puzzle-solving exploits well into the future. Although, I hope the studio also gets the chance to conclude their other anti-Nazi saga in Wolfenstein 3.

It'll be hard to find a myth that hits as hard as the Christian Vatican secrets plot. I think this was Todd's dream game for a long time.

I could get excited for 1 more game. Devs never know how it will be received or if it will work. A sequel is where they can perfect it. Mass Effect 2. Assassins Creed 2. Ninja Gaiden 2. Etc. Don't do a part 3.

Makes sense, Disney probably made bank off this especially after MS renegotiated it to be a game pass game and get exclusivity, and at least it succeed in being a critical hit which is better than the last two movies in the franchise managed

Problem with games journalists is that they make story out of nothing for traffic. Microsoft have most likely signed a multi-game deal with Disney.

Disney is clueless when it comes to videogames.

Kinda hope they do hire Andrew Wilson, albeit his mission will be to corner the sports market. Anything else will be gravy to the shareholders.

I wouldn’t mind seeing another Indy game as long as Disney stays the f away from the said game.

I do wonder if Disney is thinking to pitch the game as a movie now.

I do think Disney noticed. Harrison Ford was at the Game Awards. He's too old to do literally anything else. They can see its a miracle what Troy Baker, Machine Games and Todd Howard pulled off.
Calling it a miracle is going a little too far... voice actors have impersonated voices of others for a while now, and just because this time it was the voice of Harrison Ford, it is somehow supposed to mean more? The team did a good job, trying to make it more than it is seems a bit... weird.

Phil doesn’t seem interested in licensing IPs like this. He said it doesn’t make sense for them because of gamepass. I doubt we get more.

I'll quote myself from the other thread:
The big success for Indiana Jones isn't that it's an outsized financial hit (it's selling ok, but it's not a Wukong or Helldivers 2 or even a Spider-Man 2 level of success), it's that it's keeping the IP alive to begin with.

The Indiana Jones game has vastly outperformed the latest film in terms of engagement etc with the brand, that part is an unquestionable fact imo.

So there's plenty of reason why Disney would want to have some more of those games because now they have a way to grow the brand post-Harrison Ford. And when you can target Switch 2 and PS5/6 day 1, the math starts to get a bit safer too.

Disney have had a far better gaming record than most think imo.

They published one of the biggest hits of the year for two years running now (Spider-Man 2 and Marvel Rivals), and they are revitalizing a key IP through another (Indiana Jones and the Great Circle). They also have had other decent hits like Marvel Snap etc.

Their film studios business is terrible atm, but their gaming side is actually doing super well.

They need to do a stand alone one like temple of doom or fate of atlantis and not abrahamic with nazis. maybe even turn the unused monkey king script into a game

I can not understand this forum sometimes. guys, the game is phenomenal and I am saying this as a lifetime PS fanboy. I was expecting a first person uncharted but I found an amazing sandbox game that reaches the level of 3d Marios and has great graphics and gameplay with intriguing story. not only it is the perfect Indiana Jones game, it is also a great direction for a future tomb raider game since you literally don't have to be a mass murderer and all you do is raid tombs and be a history nerd and stuff.

it only make sense that Disney wants more and wait till this drop on ps5/pro. it will sell millions of copies I promise you.

but its already burnt. xbox is already gone. MS is a 3rd party publisher now, I doubt there will be future xbox home consoles. so why bother with such a futile vitriol? game is great, possibly one of the best games Bethesda ever made, why not just play it or wait for the already announced ps release before being so salty?

They should make a movie out of the game's story. Much better than the last 2 Indies.
Yeah it’s like playing the best Indiana Jones movie since Last Crusade. There are some truly great Indy moment, cool story, traps, mysteries, some humor, lots of locations, and the villain is just perfect. Really shows that the dev love the old movies.

Unfortunately I think Indiana Jones is kinda over for movies. They went digital with the last one but idk if that’s a good way forward. They would need to somehow replace Harrison Ford, new actor like they’ve done with James Bond. Is it possible? Don’t know. Maybe they could do another attempt at young Indiana Jones with a new actor that grows into something new and iconic?
