I mean, that's my personal tastes, where am I saying that CCU matters. I'm stating the obvious, what do PC gamers want. For sure a Bloodborne would be atomic bomb levels compared to Horizon, the fanbase of Souls on PC has accumulated to ridiculous levels and the blue balling of the rumours of Bloodborne is just edging a whole community. There's no edging for Horizon.

You were using CCU and your opinion to form a general PC trend of lack of interest in those games and fighting to not prevent further PC releases due to poor sales, particularly in 2023. You used CCU as an indication of PC reception to those games. The CCU was good though and so were sales. Much better than Indy today.

The entire first act of the game is Indy fighting Fascists, not Nazi's.

Also, in Temple of Doom, those Indians are actively trying to hunt and kill Indy. There's no scenario in the game where any of the locals, other than the fascists in Vatican, are fighting against Indy, so there's no reason for him to kill them.

I didn't use CCU in Horizon forbidden west. You can't force something that doesn't exist even if you want to will it into existence.

I was in a discussion on why Forbidden west is performing lower than Zero Dawn. My personal opinion on it, why I haven't bought Forbidden west while I own Zero Dawn. Am I the fucking representation of STEAM with my opinions? Am I the first one to mention how Soul community wants Demon soul / Bloodborne? Surely not as EVERY fucking Sony PC announcements or just any video conferences by now, has the port begging in them.

That's your prerogative but... really? The stealth implementation in the game is pretty mediocre and certainly isn't on par with something like Dishonored. Most of the enemies are pretty braindead and once you unlock the enemy faction costumes stealth ceases to matter at all. It certainly wasn't as frustrating as launch Star Wars Outlaws with its insta-fail states.

And really, is there anything more satisfying than sneaking up on a fascist and shoving a shovel up his nuts then smacking his face while he's writhing in pain? I think not!

At the absolute very least, Indiana Jones is going to get a modern reboot, potentially even with some tie-in spin-off for Disney+ that builds out the world/cast. Only way to grow the base for the IP at this point.

I've tried saying things similar to 'Only one set of data used to define a point of success for a multiplatform title is meaningless' in a multitude of ways on this forum months ago, but I think ultimately this community doesn't care. The Steam CCUs will continue to be used to bolster an argument against any game, regardless of how little sense it makes.

I just don't think the Indiana Jones format works well outside of the 20's-30's. You NEED that 'cultural exoticism' vibe that the stuff like Tomb Raider and Uncharted don't really have. And obviously if you just put modern sassy women into a 30's world and then try to keep all the chauvinistic men around as well it fails even harder.

Stick to the formula, respect the sources, make the $$$. It's so easy if you uncomplicate it.

Even if it did sell really well they still have to pay Disney which eats into their profits. Unfortunately going to Disney and talking about engagement on gamepass isn't going to get the job done. Why waste a talented studio like machine games trying to revive a dead IP like Indiana Jones for another company when MS has spent the last like 7 years buying up tons of IP that is just sitting there waiting for someone to use it?

I'd like to speak a little more on what the original poster was getting at regarding licensed property. I think we need to divorce the conversation of Indiana Jones and its reception from the typical 'console wars' framing that a game in its situation would often receive. Indiana Jones' difficulty with its legacy audience is one thats been increasingly noted with its box office returns, but with 'The Dial of Destiny' being Disney's biggest box office bomb since 'John Carter', its not difficult to think this struggle wouldn't also carry over to gaming.

I don't think any of the issues The Great Circle is having has anything to do with how it was released, and more just to do with the relevancy of the IP in general. Lets look at another upcoming example, Blade. With that being another Disney-owned IP, the licensing fees are going to be quite high, but its release strategy is going to be wider from the get-go, and I don't think it'll be the PS5 version existing that will ensure its better received than The Great Circle is. Marvel comics is far bigger than Indiana Jones is, and Blade is a pretty well-liked character whose audience has been looking for a new experience but hasn't been able to net one due to production issues on the film.

The larger thing to keep in mind is that both Blade and The Great Circle were green-lit at very different times within the industry, and the publishing outfits who did green light them (MS for Blade, Zenimax for The Great Circle), were facing different corporate realities to where the wider industry and market finds itself today. Heck, GamePass and their objectives are in a much, much different place now than they were a year ago even. Games take much longer to produce, which makes the risk associated with these investments that much larger since so much winds up riding on it. Indiana Jones being received well critically is a boon for Booty and his leadership of the first-party portfolio, despite him not really having much to do with it, so thats why you're seeing such a concerted marketing push to get behind this game through a ton of their 2nd-party marketers like Jez and other NA media groups.
