Seems to be hitting all the markers, at least as of now. Let's see how it does when it actually comes out in a month.

I left the preview event humbled and repentant, having my effrontery to doubt the creators of Wolfenstein: The New Order crushed beneath a gigantic rolling prop boulder.

With Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, Machine Games proves beyond doubt its capacity to take the essence of a classic and reinvigorate it for a modern audience — a skill that seems wholly lacking in modern Hollywood, I might add. Wolfenstein was no fluke, and Indiana Jones and the Great Circle went from being a vaguery in my personal upcoming Xbox games list to sitting right up there with Stalker 2 among my most anticipated games.

In fact, I talked in my first hands-off preview about how much Indiana Jones and the Great Circle reminded me of 2004’s seminal first-person stealth-adventure game, The Chronicles of Riddick: Escape From Butcher Bay – which not only proved that licensed games could be incredible (the opposite was usually the case back then), but it showed that a first-person game didn’t have to be a shooter to be riveting. Butcher Bay was built by the same core group of developers that later founded MachineGames – many of whom are still with the studio – and that Riddick influence is just as evident when playing The Great Circle as it is watching it. I don’t know if executive producer Todd Howard, who famously pitched this idea to Lucasfilm many years ago, had MachineGames in mind when he came up with it. But the pairing absolutely works, and I absolutely can’t wait to experience the rest of Indy’s latest adventure.

Overall, my time with Indiana Jones and the Great Circle was great, revealing that the heavy focus on exploration does indeed make it an "adventure-action" game. That doesn’t mean the combat is an afterthought, however, as the crack of Indy’s whip and the theatrical knockout animations make it a satisfying activity when not scouring for lore. Its slower pace gave me a chance to soak in the incredible detail packed into each area, and I look forward to seeing how that holds up in other parts of the game.

There's no doubt that developer MachineGames understands the look and feel of Indy, but questions have lingered around its ability to capture playing as the globetrotter. Now that we've had some hands-on time with the game, it's clear to me MachineGames understands more than just the aesthetic of Indiana Jones, but also what it means to be Indiana Jones.

I feel like I should be dragged out in front a firing squad and executed for asking this but...

Is it coming to GamePass?

Because no way in shit am I paying full price for this after how god awful New Colossus and Youngblood were. And on top of that we already got a taste of Indy's boss bitch in the the trailers. Reinvigorated for a modern audience indeed.
