INDIANA JONES New Egypt Gameplay Demo

Im sure it will be great to play. But its missing some colors that pop more, thats a lot of browns and greys and kind of muted color choices. And more foliage out in the wild, it looks kind of barren. A more colorful and vibrant world building. But it also looks like the trailer focusses on slower gameplay, and parts where you walk around for a bit. Really looking forward to playing it, perfect christmas game this year.

Hope it’s more starfield than uncharted aka unstructured for core*. Unfortunately core gamers and movie gamers intermingled to usher in a predictable state for AAA titles.

* note; played starfield originally and hated it; picked it back up a few weeks ago and realized it is a you game (your choices & options); some quests I can’t complete without the right skills feel like megaman forcing me to do other things like dog fighting where I’m getting wrecked but eventually survive and level up. Most of this game feels off in a great way. I’m theorizing starfield 2 will be like Skyrim, a casualized elder scrolls game. Currently starfield = Morrowind for my experienced @xx.

Todd stated you are not playing as Indy but are Indy. That’s difficult for gen gamers. My expectation is heavy stealth and options like dishonored.

Gonna take a wild guess here, are you high?

Ok. I finally had time to watch the vid. So prepare for my rant.

As an Uncharted, Dishonored, Thief, Chronicles of Riddick and Wolfenstein The New Order + Old Blood fan and also OG Splinter Cell and the amazing Chaos Theory fan. Here is my rant.

I really didn't expect this to be a first person title. Could have been a good contender against the Uncharted series.

I don't know, just feels off in some ways to me.
Well that's what I initially thought when they announced this game.

Unfortunately it feels off but not for the reason they didn't go with 3rd person.
Looks pretty good for immersive exploration and puzzle solving, but not convinced about combat and stealth gameplay. That could get annoying.
I guess so, when I didn't get into the trailer im-sim kinda got me excited, as I'm a stealth genre junky - not ubisoft formula - I mean OG stuff as I wrote earlier when I didn't watch trailer it got me excited I guess? Now, I see a bunch of issues at hand.

Weird that it has performance problems considering it’s running on the current idtech engine. Unless there have been some modifications by Machine Games that is greatly affecting performance.
Yeah, unfortunately I get Void Engine vibes here and there, and that shit was based on ID TECH. Hopefully I am wrong.
First person doesn't seem like the correct choice that melee combat looks bad
Doesn't really have to do anything with first person tbh. Riddick had absolutely awesome hand to hand combat, as well as gunplay which was fun for me- especially Assault on Dark Athena, and remake of Butcher Bay included with it. But that was all Starbreeze OGs from back in the day, which later started Machine Games and did New Order+ Old Blood (which was also great).

Enter the New Colossus and it was off.
Enter the Young Blood and it was way off the charts.

We will continue that discussion later than the road :D.
The fact this transitions so much into third person when he's doing stuff like climbing just says this game should be in third person the whole time.

I get the feeling the only reason it's mostly in first person is to avoid Uncharted comparisons.
Riddick did the same, and I had no issues with it. That's not the issue here, I think. Gonna share my impressions later on.
It's just off. This is not what it should be. A shame, really. Hugely missed opportunity, judging by what I've seen of the gameplay.

Joel looks to be doing a pretty excellent Indy impression here, though. Gotta give credit for that, not easy to get that unique voice that we all know so well.
Yeah something doesn't exactly click and I think I know why. I am also quite tired of this VA. But at least he does good impression of Ford.
Both of those games were great, especially Thief (in my personal opinion), but they weren’t based on famous characters, so being in 1st person wasn’t really an issue. And neither was the fact that they were predominantly stealth based.
I agree. Still this type of Indiana game should work. But... I will share some of my thoughts later on. Just need to hook some of you guys on :D
I love Indiana Jones, action adventures and Machinegames games ( Wolfenstein), but man. This doesn't gel well at all. :/
Same-same.
Have you played chronicles of riddick by the same guys? It does the same exact thing. First person the majority then transitions to third for specific things
As I have said. It's not an issue.
The traversal looks so bad :(

Still could be good tho….the puzzles, exploration, and story …”vibes” need to be extremely strong
Traversal is not bad, Riddick did the same, I'm playing Jedi Survivor and I sometimes feel like this, only it is primarily 3rd person game - I think it's being called arcadey like.
FIFA, PES, Indy… I do not have a problem with Indiana Jones being a football simulation, if it’s done right - those games show it can be done.

I see Indy in a similar scenario when we compare it to Riddick or Wolfenstein, that is the point I was trying to make when I said “spot the odd one out” ;).
I get that dude, chill. As I have said I initially wanted Uncharted style Indy game - but im-sim should work but only if done properly.
That framerate is jank.

Honestly who in their right mind greenlights putting out a trailer with hitches ?
I agree, honestly I hope it's just crappy video compilation and broken encoding.
Last thing I want is a first person Indiana jones game where you hear him mouth breath around barren environments spending hours doing basic stealth introduced in the early Ubisoft games.

You’ve already played the new Indy a thousand times already. It wasn’t fun then, it certainly doesn’t look fun now
I noticed that too, even as a stealth junkie it caught my attention.

It's the same with hand movements.

Thief 2016 reboot did the same I think? When you try too much to make things real, you end up with boring mechanics - that's why you balance things to make a fun gameplay loop. God, I still remember opening up every damn drawer...Shit was bad and annoying.

Dishonored 2 didn't have that and it was definitely more fun.
Aye, maybe. Theif, Dishonoured and Riddick work really well though (to name a few)and this kinda looks like what they are going for so if done right they might pull it off.

Jurys out but fingers crossed. It certainly looks the part.

As always MS marketing is fucking terrible. Why not just show us the full opening level or similar and one or two big set peices?
I agree, but I will wait and see - that's exactly what I've been doing with games for the past 2-4 years and it's working great for me.
Level design, layouts, pacing etc seems from there.

Yet to see if its im sim or pure stealth game. Will have to play to know that. It does seem to have a variety of options to tackle enemies. But most of them seem to be different weapons, which points towards it being stealth title. Still, could have full featured systems, you never know.
That's what I've been thinking too but my wait and see approach will confirm it.
My main question with this game is if that woman will be preachy and annoying since that would ruin the game for me.
Wasn't the girl in the movies the same?
I'm adopting a "wait and see" strategy. While it's great it's coming to PS5 - and LOL will play much better on PS5 Pro than Xbox Series X/S - I've been suspicious about this game ever since IMDB's supposed leak of Sweet Baby Inc. working on this game. If this turns out to be the case - heck, the guy on the Youtube video for the Indiana Jones game says it was designed for "Modern Audiences" - then I'm boycotting this DEI crap ASAP.
Same, same.

So let's got to the issue at hand.

Machine Games kinda went down hill with New Colossus, I then thought something isn't clicking right, as well as it did with New Order+ Old Blood. Didn't really saw it then, but it felt like all the issues at hand we now have in games started right around that time, post 2016 around 2017 to be exact.

It's like they went with DEI, made story bland and gameplay wasn't as fun as it was either.

Then enter the blunder that was Youngblood and I was actually convinced of it. That either OG Starbreeze devs left Machine Games or they prioritize something else rather than fun gameplay loop.

Seems like these issues may extend to Indy.

Maybe we won't get the usual DEI characters in this game but it can play it too safe in some fields, which will extend to kinda bland and not fun gameplay loop, hope I'm wrong.

I get what these dudes are trying to do, arcadey like gameplay loop, not only traversal. But something doesn't click. Punches should connect, I mean it shouldn't be like Riddick - the dude practically bashed heads in with his hands because he was intergallactic murderer.

But hmm, I have some ideas. Make punches should connect, loose the circle splash effect. Make some animations that the dude is actually stunned, like actors did in the movies - make it more acadey through animations.

They should absolutely loose the breathing while in stealth also make hands move from time to time, not all the time, those should be slow and not fast movements, he isn't jogging he is sneaking.

Also game should not be only stealth based, but as someone has said we don't know.

Indy could use some cover mechanics+ occasional shoot-out here and there. Like in the movies.

I think there are core issues it doesn't click with people, that being said they absolutely should nail it at the design level - gameplay loop is basically a core gameplay mechanic. If it's not fun, game won't be fun.

As someone has said it may be that MS has a shitty marketing and they didn't actually show whole gameplay loop but that would be dumb...

As I have said, it's wait and see for me, my dudes. All will be clear in a while, if OG Starbreeze devs are there or not. If they made fun gameplay loop or not.

We have a saying in Polish "you want make a shit from whip". I think it apply's more to this Indy game, since well he uses a whip :messenger_sunglasses:. Which basically means if something is bad it bad and no amount trying to push it won't change that.

But I do hope that the capture is bad, and once you're in it clicks - and whole gameplay loop is fun and not stale and that we haven't seen everything. And I do hope breathing won't be annoying - this is the part of realism they may have gone too far to make a fun stealth loop tbh. Balance is key. Stealth games can be fun, I mean it was done in the past by OGs and it WAS fun - but Indy game should not be only an stealth game as I have said earlier. We shall see.

Gameplay demo? I saw a boring walking indiana Jones simulator with barely any gameplay. There were some interactive moments that don't deserve to be called gameplay. This is going to flop. You can quote me.
Is that low framerate at 1:00 happening for everyone else or is it on my end?
It's not you. Sub 30fps framerate at 1:00.

Looks a lot better in some screenshots on the xbox store (presumably from a series x), I guess the video quality doesnt really do the game justice.

Walking. Hiding from enemies. Taking photos.

Absolutely riveting gameplay. 🔥

No. Just still in shock that starfield is fun for me. Hoping this is not standard adv game. That’s all. Would really like if they placed concepts from mission impossible n64/hitman aka ko guard, take clothes, slip pass checkpoint.
Ah yes, that would be fun. I forgot how much I liked that part of Hitman series. And I didn't even mention this. My bad.

There are more awesome things they could do with this game, the only problem is if they did it and if MS marketing is just bad.

As I have said 1st person is not an issue. Not if OGs are there, not if core design gameplay is fun, if gameplay loop is fun. Its fun.

If they play it to safe it will be bland, like they did with New Colossus and Youngblood (ugh).

NGL, this video kind of sold me on the game. Was a bit worried they were not gonna stay true to the character and give us a "modern take" on Indiana Jones (i.e. neuter him) but it looks decent. Hopefully the story is good and doesn't have all those modern storytelling tropes in it.

Looks quite good to me, the global illumination in that first scene is amazing. I think much of the weight falls on the melee combat and how it will feel to actually use it. First person melee combat is REALLY hard to make right.

Trilobit

Absolutely Cozy
I really didn't expect this to be a first person title. Could have been a good contender against the Uncharted series.

I don't know, just feels off in some ways to me.

I think it looks very good technically, but I don't get that matinee classic adventure feel from it which the movies give me. The atmosphere should be thicker and the game should overall be dirtier and sweatier and more adventurous.
