IndieGogo - Windows 10 GPD Handheld -299$ "A Laptop Fitting in Your Pocket"

I am reading so much reports on the crashes .. feel like cancelling my order now before it is too late.. any news from chinese or Japanese forums? Are they having the same problems?

Apparently the driver issue is just fixed by updating, and fixing some registries

DOA5 Last Round: Looks gorgeous, but...nope. Couldn't get it to run at 60 FPS and the game won't let you go lower than 1024x768 for some reason, nor can you run that setting in full screen.

Few question :

-any way to use left joystick as mouse instead of défaut right ?

-how are you using the fan ? I let it middle it's barely noticeable

-m'y sandisk'usb key is detected yet I can't create a bootable drive for it Windows installation tools isn't detected it. Any idea ?

ULTRA Street Fighter IV: Will run above 60 FPS at 1280x720 if you turn the background detail to low, which means no backgrounds. If you use a lower resolution, you can turn it on high and it will run great. At 640x400, the game gave me a benchmark well above 60 fps and I could run the game with more settings on high. The lower resolution isn't so noticeable when you're playing. Looks 1000 times better than SSF4 on 3DS. :)

Skullgirls: Turn backgrounds to 2D and the game will run perfectly at 1280x720. Looks absolutely gorgeous on the screen! Much, much better-looking than the Vita version and the load times are insanely fast. A standout game on the GPD WIN to me, so far.

I'm having trouble pulling off special moves consistently with the d-pad. Maybe it just needs to be broken in. But the good news is that the left analog nub works amazingly well. I usually detest using analog sticks to control fighters, but I had no trouble with this one. It almost reminds me of a NeoGeo CD pad, just without the clickiness.

Your assessment of the controls is similar to mine. Dpad and face buttons are just too mushy.

What do you guys mean by mushy?

As in no proper feedback?

Imagine if a M&M was a slightly hard marshmellow. If you pressed it, you'd have to press hard to have the sensation that you 'pressed' it. It's not so bad for buttons but for the dpad, it causes me to cramp because you need to constantly push in a certain direction.

Saint's Row The Third: Wouldn't launch. Have read there's problems with it on Windows 10. It works just fine on my Surface, though...

Melty Blood Actress Again: Current Code: Runs perfectly at 1280x720.

The King Of Fighters XIII: Runs perfectly at 1280x720. Just want to add that I couldn't run this game this well on my older ASUS tablets from just a few years ago. Pretty awesome seeing it on the small screen in such a perfect state!

Pac-Man Championship Edition 2: Runs poorly. Unless I missed something, there are no configuration options. WTF?

Mighty Switch Force! Hyper Drive Edition: Runs perfectly at 1280x720. Like Skullgirls, this is a standout title visually. Pops off the screen.

Trine: Seemed to run well with v-sync off and with graphic detail at medium at 1280x720. I want to try it again with lower detail settings and see if I can get it a bit smoother.

That's too bad

Here's two vids that someone did on fighting games since it appears you're a fan :D

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Zx3lNSN90dU <-- Blazblue CT

Thanks. I wonder why SFxTK is running better than USF4 is? Weird.

Clueless question: Getting a 128 GB flash drive tomorrow. Do I need to do anything special to format it to install games on, and I can I tell Steam to specifically install a single game to it? Was thinking about doing that for games with larger file sizes. I assume there might be performance issues from this too.

Also have a micro SD card coming. Plan on using that for emulators specifically.

ya you can tell steam to have another install folder no problem, no need to format to get gaems running, should be plug n play

I did a clean install following your guide phawx. Applied wifi fix. Yet it says my wifi key isn't correct. Any idea ?

Resident Evil 5: Runs at 22-30 FPS with settings on low at 1280x720, per the benchmark test. At 800x600, it runs well above 30 FPS and gets framerates in the 30s-50s. It looks great this way but is 4:3. Is there a way to force widescreen in this game? Editing the resolution in the .ini file doesn't work.

EDIT: Fixed framerate at 30 seems to stay closer to 30 FPS over using the variable setting. Seems pretty playable this way!

Looks like mine has been delivered. Looking forward to playing around with it when I get home. I will assume I will have to succumb to the display driver issue but will probably do the updates on Friday night/weekend.

Ignoring game performance how is just regular windows performance and web browsing?

Generally snappy/speedy enough for basic tasks. I installed Chrome and it works just fine, but all I did was use it download some files and to test out Youtube while connecting the GPD to a monitor. Worked great but this is not really a device I plan on using for web browsing or watching videos, apart from one thing- I used to be able to stream live TV for certain cable channels (using DirecTV credentials) on their apps. This is not offered anymore for whatever reason, but works fine in web browsers on Windows. It will be nice to be able stream again via the GPD WIN.

I have a BIG issue I can't figure

I did the clean install tutorial from phawx
As my USB sandisk key wasn't working with the windows creation tool on the gpd win I used it on my surface pro 4 who has windows 10 pro

I make a new install on gpd and the cdkey provided in the box isn't working.
I'm thinking maybe because I installed windows pro and it must be a home key

I try again to create a USB windows install from my surface for my gpd and I have windows 10(which I used and is pro ) windows 10 N and windows unilingue.

I tried 10N , put key in gpd : cd key not working as well
I try 10 uninlingue it doesn't let me a full install just keep files and override previous with pro

Now I'm stuck I don't have any w10 home and no way to make one as I deleted it from he new gpd

What can I do ?

Thanks

Played around with it a bit so far and so far so good with 2 nitpicks.
Adjusting screen angle distorts/flexes the lcd slightly and you can't turn it on with the charger plugged in.

Keyboard is clunky to use but I'm not used to it and I'll adapt.
Mouse control with control sticks works very well although I may reverse mouse buttons and use right shoulder buttons for left mouse click for convenience.
Included earbuds don't fit in my ears.

Good to see more devices shipping out. Can't say I'm roaring to pick one of these up at the moment but I'm definitely interested to finally see some portable Halo CE. I figure someone will try that game or it's demo eventually.

I don't have that issue, I turned mine on with it plugged in without issue. Did have some weird issues with the power button (had to press it multiple times, couldn't tell if my GPD Win was sleeping or shutdown) but I just chalked it up to the initial Windows Updates and multiple restarts/etc so far.

Late to the tracking number party, and I'm rather confused.

What does it mean if your pledge ID is absent from all the spreadsheets?

EDIT: Checked DHL and 'Shipment notification received' in HK today. Anyone have experience of how long it'll take from this stage?

To clarify if I tried turning it on with the charger plugged in it'd start booting up, show the gpd image then show a giant battery icon then 10'ish seconds later it'd shut off.
Tried at least 5 times with the same result until I unplugged the charger and it booted right up.
should point out at that point I hadn't updated a single driver yet.
After having display drivers crash while trying torchlight I updated display drivers to 15.40.1.64.4.something at which point while trying torchlight it booted up fine and ran for a couple minutes before the screen went blank and I got a popup saying "application has been blocked from accessing graphics hardware"
Trying 15.40.28.450something now.
On a separate note one visual novel I tried worked perfectly fine for more than 20 minutes.
also popped the case off and I can confirm the heat sink is flat with no fins anymore.

Wifi works well.
Was near the router and achieved more than 5mb/s download speeds.

I wonder why they removed the fins. The fins helped a lot

@mjpia did they change the plate around the CPU? like did they extend that area?

Jeez this thing needs bigger nubs on the bottom.
Fan gets blocked easily.
I haven't dug too deep into the heat sink yet and mostly reassembled for now.
I've dropped two screws on a grey and black carpet I have to find and I'm trying to figure out a thing.
Application SearchUI.exe has been blocked from accessing Graphics hardware.
Display driver stops responding frequently like others and then that is also blocking me at every move.
Running sfc to verify stuff for now.

Where are you guys going to update the display drivers, and is it even worth doing if I'm not having any problems (beyond Saint's Row 3 not starting, which may not be related to that at all)?

Ditto on wifi. No problems I'm seeing. What are the issues being reported?

These are the latest intel drivers:

https://downloadcenter.intel.com/do...ows-10-and-Windows-7-8-1-15-40-?product=80939

People's issues are that the GPD will either shutdown or will crash from display driver issues.

Between all of the crashes, the heatsink changes, the 8750>8700 JD.com guys made out like bandits :/

Ok i managed my issue with windows key

I've followed phawx tutorial on YouTube for bios settings only touching then on dangerous things.

Overall is it normal the gpd is always warm even on the windows desk ?

Load HWmonitor and see what your idle temps are.
