What is it about NIN albums where songs don't sound all that great on an album, and then you see it performed live and it completely transforms the song for you?
Heh, I actually had the opposite feeling.
The live performance didn't measure up to the album cuts for me.

Damn...to each his own I guess, but I love the ever-living shit out of NIN live...
Same here, but there was also a point in my life where I questioned why anyone went to concerts because they sound worse than the album. I was a stupid child at this point, as opposed to a stupid man.

I wish he played Running that night! I remember the lightshow for that song being soooo triply and awesome. Very HTDA-ish.

Also unnghhh *poot* at the new Sanctified bassline. Makes me shiver.

Reading the AMA now

Who's in the band now?

trent-reznor

IR + AC + RF + TR
4 person band now or I guess he might be in the early stages of recruiting another person to fill the bass/second guitar role?

Indeed, I have hung up my NIN live career. There is nothing to see I haven't seen before. Lights tour was basically the be all end all for that.

It's impossible to top what he did with Lights, only thing he can do is variations on that theme and keep up the quality....I feel like he accomplished that with Tension.

I was at Staples Center performance. Saw some cameras shooting during it, awesome that they already put it up!

It was an amazing experience, it was my first time seeing em live.

I finally listened to this album for the first time this week. I really like it, and it's definitely growing on me. I prepared myself for the worst after the negative reviews, but I really like it. There are some instant classics on here, like track 9. I'll post a more in depth review later...

Trent mentions the long gestating The Fragile reissue and other stuff in a new interview.
Oh god. Look, thanks for talking on that. After this tour - I am wondering what other projects you are waiting to get your teeth sunk into. I know there was talk of a The Fragile re-issue at some point - is that still on the cards?

Yeah, we've done a lot of the work for that. Really what it's come down to is with all the other stuff going on, the Fragile thing in particular, I want to make sure I get it right. You know, we've mixed everything in surround, it sounds amazing, we have a great package ready to go. I just stumbled across 40-or-so demos that are from that era that didn't turn into songs, that range from sound effects to full-fledge pieces of music, and I kind of feel like - something should happen with that.

And I think it has something to do with that package, and I just need the bandwidth to kind of calmly think about it, and decide how much effort I want to devote into that and what to do with it. I have a lot of ideas that could eat up immense amounts of time and I'm trying to weigh out - just think it through. I don't want to pull the trigger on something and go, 'Man, I should have done it in this way.' And I just haven't had a chance to be in a calm place where I can think it through completely and make that decision.

Full Interview
40 demos!!

How long is this Fragile deluxe thing floating around now. Come on, Trent.

Nine Inch Nails might be less than halfway through their Australian tour with Queens of the Stone Age, but that didn’t stop the band from teasing fans about something else they’ll be doing later this year. All signs point toward another co-headlining tour, but this time in the US, and with none other than Soundgarden.

Recently, LiveNation let slip an announcement for an August 17th date in Dallas, TX, featuring NIN and Soundgarden. Some fans were also able to find an auction for a meet and greet with Chris Cornell along with tickets to an August 25th date at LA’s Hollywood Bowl, also featuring both bands.

I went last night to the second Sydney show. I'm not really a fan of QOTSA but they were pretty good live. NIN came on last and the real party started! Mariqueen came on and they played Ice Age and BBB too!

http://pitchfork.com/news/54273-nin...-announce-tour-with-support-from-death-grips/

Nine Inch Nails and Soundgarden have announced a summer co-headlining tour, featuring support from Death Grips on all dates. This team-up is surprising, given that Trent Reznor has a history of dissing Soundgarden frontman Chris Cornell. Tickets go on sale to the public on March 21; in the mean time, check out the tour dates below.

Nine Inch Nails released The Downward Spiral and Soundgarden released Superunknown on March 8, 1994. So this is the 20th anniversary of both albums.

Last year, Reznor revived NIN for an album (Hesitation Marks) and lots of touring. Soundgarden will release a 20th anniversary reissue of Superunknown on June 3. In 2010, the band reunited after over a decade. Since then, they've toured, released various reissues, and put out a new album, 2012's King Animal.

Nine Inch Nails & Soundgarden:

07-19 Las Vegas, NV - Planet Hollywood
07-21 Morrison, CO - Red Rocks Ampitheatre
07-24 Tinley Park, IL - First Midwest Bank Ampitheatre
07-26 Clarkston, MI - DTE Energy Music Theatre
07-27 Toronto, Ontario - Molson Canadian Ampitheatre
07-29 Mansfield, MA - XFINITY Center
07-3o Camden, NJ - Susquehanna Bank Center
08-01 Wantagh, NY - Nikon at Jones Beach Theatre
08-02 Holmdel, NJ - PNC Bank Arts Center
08-04 Bristow, VA - Jiffy Lube Live
08-05 Virginia Beach, VA - Farm Bureau Live at Virginia Beach
08-07 Charlotte, NC - PNC Music Pavillion
08-08 Atlanta, GA - Aaron's Ampitheater at Lakewood

08-16 Woodlands, TX - Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavillion
08-17 Dallas, TX - Gexa Energy Pavillion
08-19 Albuquerque, NM - Isleta Ampitheater
08-21 Chula Vista, CA - Sleep Train Ampitheatre
08-22 Irvine, CA - Verizon Wireless Ampitheatre
08-24 Mountain View, CA - Shoreline Ampitheater
08-25 Hollywood, CA - Hollywood Bowl

I'll probably skip this... Soundgarden was always my least favorite of the 90's Seattle bands and I saw NIN last year. Unless there is a massive discount on lawn tickets as the show nears...

Im seeing them at the end of May and I cant wait. But recently Ive been listening to The Fragile and it really is as excellent as the fans say. I normally despise double LPs but the whole thing is excellent all the way.

Im not a big fan of The Wall, had it been consolidated into a 60 minute album it would've been a masterpiece and I thought given the fan love for both those albums I thought it was going to be the same case.

In reality I wouldn't have it any shorter.

The fragile is quite good but I feel it loses some steam towards the end of disc 2(right)

I do agree as most fans do that the Right disc isn't as tight and yet I cant seem to see how it could be shortened, maybe the very last song but otherwise it comes together really well.

I saw them live tonight and they were fucking incredible. Seeing Nine Inch Nails perform live has always been a lifelong ambition of mine, and to actually get that chance now is a dream come true that they delivered perfectly. I never thought I'd get the chance to do that after the band went into hiatus, yet here I am still ecstatic over one hell of a night.

Copy of A is an impeccable show opener. The biggest surprise that happened on the show I went to though is that they performed a completely reworked version of Sanctified. That was one of my favorite PHM tracks and I never imagined I'd get to hear it live. It's a lot more mellow with some interesting effects. Judging from setlists from the previous days, they seem to really mix things up each show.

Here's some pics from the night.

Saw em in St. Paul for the tour start. Super hyped to see them again in August. This album is better and better each time I listen to it.

When kitchenmotors and I saw them at Lollapalooza last year, this blew my mind. It was incredible.

In a perfect world, we'd all be homersexual
At Brisbane we had Somewhat Damaged which is a great opener and later on Hand Covers Bruise going into Beside You In Time - all tunes I'd never seen live before, and Copy Of A was killer - probably my favourite NIN track these days. Sweet show.
