inFAMOUS - The oFFicial Thread

Friday.

My Play.com order shipped today, might actually have it on release from them for once!

I think it was released today here in Sweden at least.

Still not sure if I should buy it or not. Wasn't that impressed by the demo and I've got quite the backlog to work through too.

I'm reading on Elkjop.no (this concerns us Norwegians) that the game will be priced 399nok there (standard game retail price is 599nok here). Just letting you know.

Picked up my copy yesterday and 4 hours of playtime later the game still amazes. It is just so smooth and very easy to get into. My GOTY so far but Prototype and Red Faction:Guerilla loom in the shadows. Bravo Sucker Punch.

This game is so awesome. I just
had a mental attack or something
and it was fucking grand! This is the most fun I've had since DMC3.

Went to gamestop to pick it up and they fucked up my LE pre-order, decided not to pick it up. Hopefully I'll find a copy somewhere else, otherwise I will probably just wait for pricedrop.

Wtf, it's pretty much the opposite here. It's like SEK50-100 more expensive than games usually are when comparing the price in one of the better stores.

It's an SCEA game; see ya in 2011.

I have to say, even though I'm not much of a fan of open world games, Infamous feels different. The controls are near perfect. I'm having so much fun effortlessly jumping and climbing around empire city while wreaking havoc on the population. Been at it for about 3.5 hrs, alot of it just exploring, finding dead drops, blast shards, and pulling off stunts.

Good game so far. Having a good time. Would have played more last night, but wifey wanted to watch Tru Blood (ugh).

Positives:

+Control seems sharper than the demo, with less obvious "let me pull you to this nearby ledge/pipe" mechanic
+Tremendous audio. Seems to be consistent throughout this gen with PS3 exclusives.
+The story, while clearly designed to give you more dudes to fight, isn't bad. Enjoying the comic book cutscenes.
+Seems like there will be lots of fun stuff to unlock and discover, which is good because with no co-op or multiplayer, it needs help to keep me hooked.
+Good trophy distribution. It's a minor thing, but I enjoy the "Achievement" metagame.

Negatives:

+The graphics are positively last-gen. Some of the textures are right out of a PS2 game. Framerate is also nasty in spots.
+There's a reason no open world game in the last ~10 years has lacked either a car, or horse, or "quick" transportation from a map. It's still early in the game for me, but I think it's going to be a PITA to simply run everywhere.

That's about it, really. So far, the good outweighs the bad.

Played the game last night with friends. We all loved it and after several beers it became quite challenging too! So now I'm looking to get my hands on the Gigawatt Blades!

Can anyone blade me? Can anyone blade my blade so I can giga when I giga?

Yeah, you're still early.

This game is fantastic finding the blast shards is addicting. I can be in the middle of a mission and see one off in the distance I have to stop what I'm doing and go and get it. Put about 4 hours in last night and lovin every minute of it.

You haven't played much PS2-games, have you? Or Assassin's Creed, for that matter...

The faces do look fairly rough. I'm not bothered by it, but it's definitely not a shining example of graphical power.

And that... equals.. last-gen graphics... riiiiight.

I do think that people can make qualms about the graphics of InFAMOUS. Just like they should be able with Halo 3. But that sort of exaggeration as displayed usually is purposed.

The texture detail in this game is pretty amazing IMO. More so then most open world games out there.

LOL, I see your avatar and know the trolling is incoming. inFamous looks great, the texture are very good and the frame rate is great. So in other words you are making shit up. I doubt you have played it.

This is one of the best looking sandbox games, if not the best.

I kind of agree about the graphics, at least in terms of character models. Glad I don't really care too much about that stuff though.

I didn't say that the game looked last gen. All I said was that the faces, in-game, aren't that attractive. Which, I don't see how it could be argued otherwise.

Back down, brave console warriors! Fear not, for I hath given the game an overall positive review!

So what if the graphics stink? If the game is fun to play, that's the most important thing.

Right?

After telling myself I was only going to play until midnight to get some additional blast shards, I stayed up until 2:00 playing, and enjoying the game. I'm walking around the city healing everyone and doing side missions in an attempt to save up enough XP to acquire battery cell regeneration from kills. It costs something like 14,000 XP points which is quite expensive but it will be worth it.

I love the "sniper rifle" like ability that wasn't in the demo. It's very satisfying combining the different powers you have and using them in concert to take down the enemies.

It's the aliasing which throws people off. It definitely feels like a next gen game. Enough visual talk and more story/game talk.

BTW the audio is still pretty crappy IMO. The dialog gets buried under the music and sound effects and everything sounds like it's smooshed and has absolutely no dynamic range. It's a far cry from the audio in MGS4.

Ok, my newegg shipment is coming today! Now I have a question regarding stunts.

Is it possible to try to get them after you beat the game since you can roam around the city right? Or is it easier to do them as soon as possible?

I think you'll need enemies for some of the stunts, so if you beat the game you won't be able to do some of them.

The stunts are stuff you'll do anyway, in a lot of cases. Things like chaining your powers in a specific way or taking down an enemy in a specific way. It's just something that'll happen as you're experimenting.

------

I think this game is showing my sadistic side, as I more often try to knock enemies from roofs than just bring them down. :D

Actually, the Cole character model isn't bad, and I was too busy blasting the other character models to pay much attention to what they looked like. No, it's the environmental textures. Some of them aren't bad, but some are a blurry mess. It's distracting when I'm scaling up what should be a building and it's just blurry garbage.

And the distant background shots in the game are as abstract as Braid's. Just vague shapes of buildings in what looks like a watercolor painting. It's a far cry from something like GTA IV or even older stuff like Crackdown. Maybe it's intentional?

And, yes, it's still a great game. God damn, can we get an Infamous thread, "non fanboy edition"?

Man you guys said the Red Faction demo was fun and I wasn't terribly impressed....I hope you're right about this one

Because it's a joke to say that the graphics look last gen. It's the 2nd best looking open world game right after AC (which is one big copy/paste job). Of course, not EVERYTHING about the graphics is great. But it's far from "last gen".

Nah, GTA4 looks better. I say third.

What the hell at the texture comment. Graphics are fine.. rough in some areas but over all it looks better then allot of the other current-gen games I've played. As far as traveling in the game goes it gets allot easier to travel when you get the grind ability. I honestly feel sorry if someone actually let something like jaggies get in the way of enjoying a game as good as this one.

That blurry ass 20-25fps mess? Really?

No, it's not MGS4-good, but it's pretty damn good. Can your receiver decode DTS? The game sounds amazing. I don't have a megabuck setup, but it was still rocking the house.

Of course it's intentional, you think it's an accident? It DOF, google it. All sandbox games have some LOD, whether it's DOF effect or just downsizing textures.

I hate GTA4 (literally can not stand that game) but I agree that it looks better.

Do some of the stunts require a special skill? I'm only on the 4th one (blast a guy into the air then shoot him with lightning) and I swear I have done it at least a dozen times and it never goes onto the next stunt?

The guy says he likes the game, gives more positives than negatives and as usual you guys gravitate to the negative comments and fixate on them.

This is ridiculous.

If he says he gave the game a positive because it somehow caused his PS3 to spit out 100 dollar bills we would call him out on it.

It's not about which weighs more but the accuracy of his statements.

I was talking about the ps3 version.. its blurry as hell.. and IMO it doesn't look better. But that's just an opinion.

Building textures don't bother me. Partly because Gaf has ingrained studying them in me yet, and mostly because I'm usually zipping by them quick enough that any issues don't even register.
