How far do I need to get before I can unlock the electrical rail grind on the power lines?

I love platforming to the top of buildings in Infamous. I hope there is something like the Agency Tower from Crackdown in this game. That would be awesome to scale.
There's a mission later on in the game that has you climb a big tower. After the end of the mission, you're still on top of the tower and the next mission is on the ground. Doing a thunder drop off that tower is freaking awesome. It actually gave me that "oh my goodness rollercoaster" feeling in my stomach. :D

The game sorta looks like Mercs 2, but its been a much better game so far. I've only done the first couple of missions (*food* and *escape*) but I've enjoyed it. Couple of gripes. I don't like Cole's voice. Its not what I imagined, too Snakey Mr Bad Ass. Second, the reapers are ANNOYING and they make exploring the city kind of a pain. Its like you can't go two blocks without being shot at.

Thats why I saved the exploration until after clearing out the side missions. I'm 100% cleared out on Neon and it is pretty fun to run around.

Of course there goes the obligatory "it's gotta be your system" reply. Can my receiver decode DTS, lol I've got an Onkyo TX-SR607 that takes the uncompressed PCM audio from the PS3 over HDMI and I've got the top of the line Polk Monitor series speakers as well as one of the better subs out there, the Elemental Designs A2-300. And it sounds GREAT with Blu-ray movies as well as other games like MGS4 and KZ2. But the audio in this game is badly mixed and way too compressed (dynamic compression, not data compression).

As for the sound effects themselves, they do sound great. The mixing of them however, does not.

I thought the game sounded pretty average on the whole but I also thought the effects sound great as well. This may not be the right place to ask this but what does dynamic range mean? And what do you mean when you say the effects sound great but the mixing of them does not?

Sorry I'm quite new to all this technical audio terms but I'm really curious.

Forgot to mention, I love the FMV stuff on the TVs.
The Voice of Survival is an annoying douchebag.

I love the news reports, though. :lol

EDIT: Try not to walk past any TV's when you're on the phone, though... the reports start even if you're in the middle of the conversation, leading you to miss one or the other. :lol Happened to me at least 10 times my first playthrough, made sure not to do it my second.

Yea, definitely do the side missions and they will clear out.

Great game, but GTA defintiely looks better and has a better city. I don't really care because this city is really about climbing and doing the little missions. The pop in and jaggies are pretty bad. I rode around on this guy car, which was fun, but it made the game pop in worse than I've seen in the whole title so far.

Again, I'm having enough fun killing gang members and climbing around so it's not really a focus. It does make you wish it was a little cleaner, but we'll probably always wish that.

I got mine from EB Canada, and it was on the case as well. I made the mistake of trying to remove it. :(

Bought this last night and got to the second mission. Fun game so far, but (and not to sound like a broken record) Sucker Punch really needs some help with the graphical side of things. Sheesh.

I also think Zeke is a crappy character. I'm constantly annoyed by his comments. I LIKE PIZZA! I WANT TO WATCH TV! HUR HURRRR!

He won't be a constant retarded companion much longer.

I 'like' both Zeke and Trish because they both come off as entirely selfish people. They aren't anchors to tie Cole to good and could, instead, be seen as triggers that pushed him more towards the evil side.

Maybe that is their purpose. I'm at the begining of the game but Trish is pissing me off more than Zeke (i hate that name).

HEY KOSIN, WANT TO GO LOOK AT SOME BEEG AMERICAN TEETEES.

Man, I can't get over how funny the VO is in the "taking pictures" side missions

"Awesome, just a couple more pictuuuuures ^_^"

just picked up my copy while on lunch break. and i got the uncharted 2 multiplayer voucher.

sweet.

gonna pop this bad boy in as soon as I get home.

Secsof the guide posted since I forgot to get it while picking up the game, I had to have it. Awesome guide with tons of great comic book inspired art. Worth the 20. And the cover material feels like quality paper. Would love to have had this in hardcover but I'll take it. Worth it for the art alone.

When I picked up Infamous yesterday, the guy at EB gave me a voucher for the Uncharted 2 multiplayer beta, but there was also one inside the game case. The weird part is that one is referred to as a Mutiplayer Beta that runs in early June, but the other one refers to it as a Multiplayer Demo for August. Anyone know what's up?

I went home during lunch, grabbed a few blast shards and played a side mission. I like the ambient music they play in the background.

Is there a way to dash or sprint?

There is actually a thread for it, which it didn't really need. But yes it has been posted.

As for the comic it is funny, i can understand why is it funny for Cole not to climb a chain link fence but as for electricity well it would not go through the fence so much as use the fence as a conduit for electricity. I do think that if the reaper is touching the fence and cole zaps it, the reaper should be shocked.
Zeke sucks. Moya is really well done though. Who is that voice? It's very familiar.
Yea I agree about Zeke, why he is even in this game. I hope later on he becomes useful.

The only problem with all these news broadcast is that they are fucking loud and it gets so loud that I just find myself walking past without bothering to listen but by the time I get far enough so I can't hear it, it's probably already finished. :lol

Also, it can't be said enough but Trish and Zeke are among the most annoying characters ever created. I really wish the game would let me kill them.

Sorry I'm quite new to all this technical audio terms but I'm really curious.

He means that the various sound elements such as music, sound effects, and voice track sound fine by themselves, but the way the game mixes them together they kind of drown each other out. If the "dynamic range" of an explosion is shitty, for example, it doesn't rock the bass properly and sounds like a firecracker going off.

I think he's high and the game sounds great, but there you go. :lol

Also, for clarification, I didn't say the entire game looks like a PS2 game. I said some textures look like they came out of a PS2 game, which is 100% true. Does it REALLY matter if the game is a good time otherwise? No. I've had a blast with semi-recent games like EDF 2017, and that game looks like it crawled off the PS1.

its also a bit hard to pass people wallowing in the street without going "now young Skywalker, you will die...." ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAPPPPPPPP! I'm totally going to Palpatine out big time when I do evil mode. Just need a lightsaber and a cloak.

I'm kind of spoiler worried, so I apologize if this has been answered:

I'm only a couple hours in and mainly doing side-missions. However, I am a bit curious... Are the side missions going to be the same 5 things all game long? It wasn't bad clearing all the "surveillance devices" off the building the first time--but it wasn't fun. Discovering I am doing it again in this new area...along with another "rescue the escorted hostages" mission is making me think that each area is just going to be a literal redo of: Follow the dude from point A-B without being spotted, then escort some prisoners to jail, then zap the red flashing things off a building, then kill a few baddies walking around with a few hostages and move to the next zone.

Is this what I'm looking forward to? If so, is there any reason to even do these side missions (meager xp rewards, and I don't really understand the benefit of cleaning out areas of the city that I'll likely never need to return to since the story feels pretty linear) or should I just go through the story and get sweet new powers?

He was playing this one sewer mission that looked like a level straight out of Sly. So awesome.

Damn, I just realized this is was Mirror's Edge should have been.

This is nothing at all like what Mirror's Edge was trying to accomplish. inFamous is a great game, but let's be honest - this isn't exactly a skill-based platformer trying to emulate parkour. It's an action shooter with a lot of exploratory platforming tied into its open-world structure.

I'm in the same boat. I just quit out of a third courier mission. They seem to get harder at least, though the hostage ones are super easy regardless.

Clearing out the city nets you trophies though and will make shard hunting easier down the road.

Cole reminds me of an Elseworlds version of Solid Snake who just quit to live the life of sex with an average girl and LOOOVVVVVEEEEES brewskies.

Without spoiling much, depending on what island you're currently at the variety of side missions (general and moral specific) will drastically change due to some story elements. BUT! there's still going to be a few that gets repeated regardless, like the bugged buildings mission for example.

Also I'm not sure you get points detracted if you accidentally kill civilians, I believe actions only count toward Karma State if the exp shows up in a color, red or blue. Reviving a citizen gets you blue xp, I only get red ones when I aim directly at a citizen and continually shoot til they die(says "execution"), not they accidentally die when my grenade toss is off. Not sure though.
Yea you do. Whenever you hurt a civilian your Karma meter flashes red and you lose some good Karma. I kill A LOT of civilians because theyre always running around where they arent supposed to but I also heal a lot. I was a full blown hero when I hit the 2nd island pretty much.

They just killed the voice :( I actually liked that relentless spin doctor.

ok i just got my fourth freeze within 1 1/2 days. it always happens when a lot is going on screen and i get killed trying to run away, the death noise doesn't cue, the screen has horizontal blurred lines over black screen and the hud with red outlining, music continues. anyone else experiencing this?

the megawatt hammer HL2 guide is FUCKING AMAZING

Yea, I totally agree with this. Love this game so far, but I like Mirror's Edge a lot (having just recently played it finally) and that's a skill based platformer in my mind, the platforming in this has some flair, but doesn't take much skill.

god the game is so godly

omfg!!! yes that was some dark knight shit there !!!! that shit was epic with trish. i fucking tryed to save her in the process epic fuking failed. god that was intense

So I just played a side mission where I had to choose between saving some dude or taking their blast shards and running. I chose to save him thinking they'd just give me the shards (they didn't). So am I not going to be able to get all 350 shards now?
