Check your e-mail service setup to see if you can find a way to keep them in sync. Another idea is if your e-mail service allows automatic forwarding, setup a GMail account and forward it to that, and then point your iMac and Phone to the GMail account and that will keep things in sync.
That sounds a little it inconvenient, but if nothing else helps ill try it, thanks.

If you any mail service on a server, like Gmail, then it doesn't matter which device you access it from. It has the same history, replies, drafts, etc on either one.
Well it never worked that way on my imac+Laptop, ill take a look at how i can set up my provider. Thanks for pointing me in the right direction.

I'm just dumbfounded that Camera Roll counts against your limit. Some 1080p recordings here and there and BAM, you'd be over the limit before you know it. Doesn't help that 4S doesn't let you downgrade to 720p even.

Wait, what? Really? Wow that blows. Doesn't a 1080p video take up like 2 to 4 times the space a 720p video does? Damn, 64gig for me whenever I upgrade. I can't believe they don't let you at least select 720 over 1080.

It's not as bad as it sounds. It'll take you maybe 30 min to an hour to get things straightened out but believe me it works great. See when I got my iPhone, I couldn't set it up to properly pull my e-mail to my phone and I was using an e-mail address I've had since 1993. So what I did was set that e-mail address in its settings to forward to a GMail account. All my e-mail shows up instantly there. I set GMail up so that any reply makes it look like it came from my original e-mail. I then set the phone and computer to pull from GMail and the reality is, it's as if I'm using my original e-mail and I get all the advantages of having a more modern e-mail technology setup. So painful maybe in setting it up, but it'll all be invisible once it's done.

So cloudsaving in Scribblenauts doesn't work? Played it yesterday on my iPad before iOS5 was released and started it this morning.

When I now launch the iPhone version, I start fresh although I'm connected to Gamecenter.

Can't you just go to Podcasts, select the podcast and then select "get more episodes" or do you mean something else?

No, you can't do that anymore! (at least on iPad, not sure about iPhone)

There's no way to easily access more episodes without having to manually switch to iTunes and then finding the podcast series page yourself.

What were they thinking?

And no more lyrics/podcast data in the Now Playing screen.
No more half-played/un-played indicator.
Podcasts and other non-music audio pages are relegated to a "more" button at the bottom of the UI.

I thought about that shit

That video may be horribly compressed to make it work I reckon

Anyone else experiencing cover flow crashes on iOS5? If I try to swipe through my albums, either the app will crash or the phone will reset (though it's a faster reboot process via what I assume is a lower-level force close, as it doesn't go through the traditional process with the Apple logo, etc). I have a few thousand songs on my phone, never had an issue before.

Maybe it's an iPad thing. I updated to 5.0 and was able to do it just right now on my iPhone.

This is driving me fucking insane. My "Other" space on my iPhone 4, running iOS 5, is 4.9GB after restoring my backup.

I have absolutely no idea what it is thats causing it to be this size, so I have one of two options. Lose all my contacts/messages/whatever, or be happy with a phone with 4.9GB less data (on a 16GB/13.4GB phone).

Anyone any solutions? I've gone through all the usual stuff that is meant to solve this problem, but there's still 4.9GB taking up the "Other" capacity. Really fucking irritated by this.

Yeah, all iPhone functionality is still there. I just checked. Not sure on iPad as I don't use mine for music/podcasts at all. Just video.

Goddamit why is the music app so fucking terrible now? There's no option to easily access a podcast subscriptions iTunes page from within the music app anymore.

What the fuck.

Buy Instacast. Best 1.99 you can spend on the app store if you are into podcasts.

That OTHER space seems to change after a certain amount of time

I think it's the amount of data you try to restore after the upgrade that is just trying to sort itself out... I had to sync my device several times to realize that other shit was probably like my other media like photos to be organized properly

But then again I may be talking outta my ass

Could be. I wondered if it was a bug. Could someone with an iPad on ios5 double check that There's no "get more episodes" button within podcasts library in the music app?

You had me at hello it's not as bad as it sounds. Ill do this, since i really think that my provider is not up to the task.

That's the thing though. When I restore my backup, which is literally just my contacts and messages, it comes in at 4.9GB. I even deleted all my messages that I didn't absolutely have to keep, then re-backed up, then factory-reset and restored and its still 4.9GB.

Like I actually can't think of a single thing that will resolve this situation other than just having to deal with starting afresh.

Good luck. I tried going to your provider to see if I could help find some info but it's in a different language which I sorta guessed by the .de extension.

The "Other" listing has always pissed me off because of how much space it takes and there's really no way to figure out what the hell it is or how to clean it up. Heck, looking at it right now, it's .73 gigs of space which is nothing to take for granted.

Ugh. I'm reluctant to do this on principle because the music/iPod app functionality that was there before iOS 5 worked fine for my needs. $2 is nothing for the functionality, but Instacast doesn't have an iPad version.

Yeah, I've always had problems with the "Other" section. I'm guessing its backed up something really stupid like video files that have been knocking around in the file share of another application, but apparently I don't have any choice to do a selective restore of just contacts and messages.

Now having to contend with owning a phone with nothing on it, can't even be bothered re-adding all my contacts manually.

Try Podcaster (the one all these others cloned) or Downcast, then. Each app does infinitely more than the iPod/Music app ever did and one of the three is essential if you care about podcasts at all.

Took me roughly 3 hours to update both my iphone and ipad but everything seems to work fine now. Except for push mail via icloud which doesn't work at all. Anybody else having that problem?

So am I the only one that doesn't use e-mail on their mobile device? It's annoying as hell to have to check everything twice: Once at home and once on the phone.

Why do you check everything twice? You should be using something that is setup to keep everything in sync so you only check it once, like GMail.

In fact seriously, anyone looking to have cloud based stuff, why haven't you looked at GMail, Google Contacts, and Google Calendars? They're perfectly reliable and well used compared to the possible kinks Apple may have to work out in their setup.

Okay, will try Downcast (the only iPad/universal one of the bunch). Thanks.

you don't have this problem when using push etc.

Quick question - I have one iPhone 4, no iPads, iPods etc., will I notice any difference after this upgrade?

What exactly does "documents & data" pertain to in the iCloud preference pane on my Mac? It's not gonna try to upload my entire documents folder, is it?

Edit: This iCloud thing is gonna baffle the hell out of me for months to come.

That's your problem, sounds like you are using POP3 instead of IMAP. With IMAP any change you make on one device (delete/move folder, flag message, etc) will get reflected to all the others.

Has anyone here setup using two iClouds (for two users) on one Mac etc yet? I want to know how it works.

- I have my iPhone, and I sync my calender from iCal to iCloud (Safari and my iPhone)
- My girlfriend will be using iOS5 on her iPhone, and sharing my calender (which I will share) and syncing her contacts to her own iCloud (She uses Firefox)
- We currently use the same address book, but with groups setup for my contacts and her contacts. After getting iCloud setup on my iPhone last night, I now have her contacts on my phone too, but I just view me group (which works great).

My question is will there be any syncing issues when she connects her iPhone up and it starts to look and sync at the Lion (with iCloud update) address book?

Sorry this is a little confusing, basically, will this shit work between one mac, two iphones and two iClouds? :)

(for anyone wondering, we use a seperate broswer because she likes to have loads of favourites etc and I just use Safari with instapaper etc, dunno why really :) )

Does gmail officially do push yet on the iPhone? I'm thinking of forwarding my hotmail and gmail to my new .me account. Is anyone doing that currently? Does it work? I don't know how pushing works. Does .me only push emails sent to the .me address or all accounts forwarded to it as well? So if I get a mail to my gmail and it's forwarded to my .me account, I'll be notified instantly?

Maybe consusing question.

Custom text sounds without jailbreaking. Sad that that is the killer feature for me.

And the notifications are awesome now. You will notice it.

Gmail does push when you set it up for Exchange.

Looks like update is done. But iTunes has been stuck with a "restoring iPad apps" progress bar for over an hour. Turned on my iPad, set up cloud and stuff, finally got to my app screens and it looks like everything is there. What the he'll is it doing? Worried if I stop it then that will cause some issues

That really is an incredibly strange decision on Apple's behalf to not allow 720p video recording on the 4S.

Have to say I'm massively underwhelmed by the update:

Reminders - The location based reminders are a nice touch but there are much better apps out there. Still pretty neat.

Newstand - meh, iBooks for magazines. And I never used iBooks personally, screen is far too small.

Photo - some nice additions but so basic it's unreal. Crop, remove red-eye and enhance. That's it?

Camera - For some reason I thought this was really optimised, but instead it just has a grid feature, can't see any other changes.

Safari, messaging, mail... practically everything else is identical to iOS 4.

iCloud - It's a good idea, but everyone seems to be having big problems with it, so I chose just to backup to my PC (really no hardship) instead

Just feel a bit let down to be honest. iOS bought a lot of great features to the table, particularly multitasking... but after watching the original iPhone's launch the other day (not sure why, just some Steve Jobs thing) it really is quite shocking how little this phone has come in the last 4/5 years.

I have a problem with iMessage:

I tried iMessage with my gf and it initially worked. But when I disabled WiFi and 3G on my phone, the iPhone of my gf still thought that I was connected to iMessage and didn't send a sms. When I connected to my WiFi again, I received it.

Shouldn't the iPhone recognize when someone leaves wireless?

Yah I think I knew that. I was just wondering if iOS 5 brought official support for gmail push without exchange. Is there a reason Gmail is the only one that doesnt have it?

But nvm that.

The other part of my question: forwarding hotmail and gmail to .me shouldn't be a problem? And will be push?

K guys, I haven't read since my last post in here (somewhere between 17-20th page). But is it safe to say that I can update my iPhone and iPad without having crazy problems

Sorry for re-asking this question which has probably been answered 5 times in the last page

Just noticed that iOS 5 removed the 30-second rewind button and 2x play speed button for podcasts in the iPad music app.

Also, they split audio podcasts and video podcasts into two separate apps.

Good job, apple.

Camera at least has quick access from the lock screen and the volume button for the shutter. Those are welcome changes.

Safari on iPhone didnt really change except for adding Reader. But Safari on iPad is so much better now with tabbed browsing.
