Media apps take over that area when in use, maybe try opening YouTube, closing the video and then checking again.

Do 3rd party browsers get the Javascript performance boosts now? If not, no amount of UI enhancement could make me switch.Luigiv said:Get Dolphin Browser.

Even without notifications, the lockscreen GUI has always been somewhat intrusive and allowing even one application to show messages will worsen that substantially. Maybe it doesn't particularly matter to you but it's a big problem for me.SuperPac said:You realize you can turn off notifications by app, right? You don't have to let EVERY app post something to the lock screen. Just go to Settings/Notifications/(whatever app)/and turn off "View in lock screen." It's not that hard.
If the background picture is so important to you, turn it off?NotTarts said:Even without notifications, the lockscreen GUI has always been somewhat intrusive and allowing even one application to show messages will worsen that substantially. Heh, I imagine that's just because Engadget wanted to show off the functionality quickly rather than an actual use photo.Stumpokapow said:right but if the problem is a 10 now and 5 with no notifications, you could at least take it down to a 7 by not having three separate twitter apps contacting you.![]()
I haven't tried it yet on my iPad, but I'm disappointed there is no swiping up for multitasking on iPhone. That sounds great.Majine said:Also, gotta say, pinch to home screen on iPad 2 is amazing. That, and swipe up for multitasking, and the Home Button is barely used actually.
You should be able to cut your own texttones from whatever you want just like you can for the phone ringtones.Stormwatch said:I wonder why all the new Alert Tones available for purchase suck. Who thought it would be a great idea to have all the Alert Tones be longer than 2 seconds? All the best Tones that my friends have on their non-Apple phones are quick snippets of sounds such as the coin noise from Mario, a sniper rifle firing, and the Xbox Achievement unlock noise. "Say hello to my little friend" and "I AM YOUR FATHER" just don't cut it as viable Alert Tones for me.
Wait, I didn't mention the best thing! Swipe four fingers sideways to go between opened apps.dark10x said:I haven't tried it yet on my iPad, but I'm disappointed there is no swiping up for multitasking on iPhone. That sounds great.![]()
Better hope you have an iPad 2. It's such shit, the site still offers no indication it isn't available for the original model like it does for, say, Airplay mirroring.dark10x said:I haven't tried it yet on my iPad, but I'm disappointed there is no swiping up for multitasking on iPhone. You can now create your own from the same files they created theirs. Just convert to .m4a and rename to .m4r and you're good to go.Stormwatch said:I wonder why all the new Alert Tones available for purchase suck. When you first boot up it runs through the setup. It'll ask you to enter your existing ID if you have one, or create a new one if you don't. Did for me after upgrading my 3GS last night anyway.FatCat said:Does anyone know how to set up my Mail cloud address up on iphone? And can that same address be used as my Apple ID?

There really was never a need for the Home buton on a tablet. It's so much better. I'm kinda hoping iPad 3 does away with the Home button entirely.Majine said:Wait, I didn't mention the best thing! Swipe four fingers sideways to go between opened apps.

Settings -> General -> About -> Modem Firmware (near the bottom)
Mine says 04.11.08, but I don't know if that's what it should be. Either way if I enable 3G internet my connection still dies, just trying to eliminate things. Thank you!
heh, you ALWAYS see this post after a major firmware update. I won't even say if the life is or isn't worse (who knows?) but I swear... like clockwork.bionic77 said:Battery life seems to be a little worse after the update.

Yup, 04.11.08 for me, UK, iPhone 4 unlocked, currently on Orange.Gaaraz said:Can someone in the UK please do me a huge favour and check your baseband?

Yeah, I do. Still, it's odd that they don't mention that this feature is unavailable to the original hardware. :\Yoshiya said:Better hope you have an iPad 2. It's such shit, the site still offers no indication it isn't available for the original model like it does for, say, Airplay mirroring.
It's possible, for some reason it isn't for some people. Tried restarting the phone/resetting the settings?Leshita said:Aside from the notifications not being manually sortable everything is great (well, maybe if my newsstand has some free and good content then it would be really great).
Leshita said:I do have a question as to what the "my info" option inside the contacts section of the mails settings is. When I click on it just asks me to select a contact from my contact list, which makes no sense. Also made a me.com email account within the iCloud settings menu (regretted not getting my full name for gmail), but I can't access or sync with it from the mail app for some reason afterwards (just constant loading by the network).

lol ! It does seem to have longer a longer battery life after the update. This is coming from a Verizon iPhone 4 user.Tunesmith said:"It seems the phone still has a battery after the update."![]()
Yeah it was only one day of use so I might be jumping the gun but it only seemed to be maybe 10% worse.borghe said:heh, you ALWAYS see this post after a major firmware update. I won't even say if the life is or isn't worse (who knows?) but I swear... like clockwork.![]()

I really like the way I can sync using exchange with Gmail and Google contacts and calendar over 3G and not needing wifi, it is quick and reliable. Even on my Mac I sync my iCalendar with Google automatically along with my contacts, so iCloud just adds an extra layer of redundancy so far.catfish said:was comparing my ipad 2 with colleagues iphone. The update is much more impressive on the iphone. Wifi only devices don't benefit that much from it.
Also I'm not buying into icloud. This is the same thing as google has been doing forever and I already have a working google solution on the ipad which works great, so no switching for me.
Weird that icloud doesn't see my contacts and try to back them up though, I thought google contacts were accessed locally and synced, so I figured that icloud would pick em up as well, but that's not the case.
You create 1 entry with all the info in it for yourself, you can call it whatever you like. The "Home" "Work" etc. locations are defined by their entry labels and addresses within this contacts entry.Leshita said:Ah, i see, so it does not matter which contact is specifically selected under the "my info" option then since it utilizes my whole contact list?

The Twitter app only notifies you of direct messages or @mentions.hiro4 said:Are the twitter notifications not showing up for anyone else here?
I've set twitter up to show the notifications in banner form, but I'm not seeing anything.
any suggestions?
