Remove the calendar from syncing in iTunes.RDreamer said:Ok, this whole iCloud calendar thing is really messy and kind of silly. At first when I set things up I had an iCloud calendar and the stuff from my mac, and the iCloud one wasn't updating. To fix that I had to add my account on my mac, so my mac has 2 calendars now for some reason. That makes some sort of weird sense to me, I suppose. But after I synced and woke up this morning now my mac has transferred its two accounts (one of which is iCloud, mind you) to my iPhone. So, I have a regular calendar from my mac, an iCloud calendar from my mac, and an iCloud calendar. What the fuck!? I get that I can delete my normal calendars on my mac now, but why the fuck is the iCloud one syncing from my mac, too?

It's free so you should check it out yourself, but I played around with it yesterday and it seems pretty awesome. I have to find the right photo to use but I'm totally gonna send my mom a card with it. It's obviously not a useful app for everyone but it has it's place and its very well designed.Buckethead said:Anyone download Cards?

Saves are stored in your iCloud backup/any devices synced to your iCloud account from what I can tell.Shearie said:I posted this in the iOS gaming thread:
Something I've been wondering; does anyone know how iCloud save game data is gonna work? For games that support it, will the save game data be a separate file stored on a particular iCloud account or will the game just have the saved data on it whenever you redownload it from the app store?
Notification Center will only show events for today and tomorrow. The 10 items settings will allow it to show up to 10 events for today and tomorrow.RDreamer said:Figured that out just a second ago. This whole iCloud thing is really just very obtuse. I was able to figure it out after a while, but it's certainly a far cry from the ease of use Apple normally likes to have. I could see a lot of non computer geeks getting frustrated as hell with it.
Another question: Why does my calendar in the notification center only show today and tomorrow. I have it set to show 10 items, but it only shows two. Or is that setting only for notifications and not for the widget thing? Again... very obtuse.
Wat. I have never seen the search in a page in Safari until the the iOS5 update.Veins said:This has been in since iOS4. just scroll down on the search results page in safari.
Thanks man. I had no knowledge of a lot of that. Does anyone know a site that lists every new feature in iOS5 like this?Sentry said:Just discovered some new changes that I didn't know about, thought i'd share;
-When using the camera app, you can swipe to the right to go straight to your camera roll, so basically your camera app acts as the newest photo and you can swipe right to see shots you took.
-This might be common knowledge but you can now lock the exposure/focus by holding tapping and holding for a second; really useful.
-When writing an email you can now drag and drop the contact into whatever field you want.
-Song and album information now scrolls so you can FINALLY see the whole album/song title where before it just ended with a '...'
-You can now delete your recent calls one by one instead of all of them, great news for cheating husbands.
-Multiple apps can be downloaded/installed at once, instead of one-by-one
And some other stuff that may be more common knowledge for some, but new to others;
-Custom keyboard shortcuts can be made in the settings, so when you type gaf it automatically makes it GAF or NeoGAF through correction. sm=Spider-Man, etc.
-Custom vibration from incoming calls as well as ability to set the LED flash to go off with incoming calls.
-Custom tones from everything to calendar events to voicemail.
-Define option when selecting text, no more need for a dictionary app.
-You can totally disable in-app purchasing across all apps, great news for people with kids using scammy apps.
A bunch of small features like this, but most are easy to spot out over time.

CougRon said:I Upgraded both my iPod touch 4th gen and ipad2 to iOS 5 with no problems last night but today I discovered several huge problems For me with playlists and podcasts:
- smartplaylists are not creatable or editable in any way on my devices, which kind makes it hard to be "PC free" if you want to use them.
- on the touch, playlists are sorted by the first alphanumeric character in the name (with numbers after letters). Any other leading characters is ignored, which is frustrating because I use dashes and stars to force playlists to the top of the lists so I can quickly find and access them (particularly when connected to my car stereo where I'm too busy driving to be hunting for my playlist to play podcasts). The iPad does not have this particular problem.
- on the iPad, the playlists are forced into a grid format that you can't reorder or resize. The first 10 or so playlists are some sort of 'genius' lists that are auto-generated and push all of my playlists off the top of the screen. I can delete one or more of them, but they come back the next time i synch. On the touch these lists are on a separate genius button where they can be easily ignored.
- playlist contents do not change to the order I set to play them in. I have a smart playlist that I use for new podcasts that I need to play. Each podcast is added to the end of the list as they are downloaded and I'll usually connect my ipod for an initial synch with the new podcasts and then drag them around in iTunes into the order I will be listening to them. But after i've rearranged the play order the ipod/ipad do not reflect the changes when i run e synch again--the changes in the play order are not reflected. I have not yet tried rearranging a music playlist to see if its just podcasts that have the problem.
- if I move playlists into or out of folders, the change is not reflected on the iPod or iPad. They stay in whatever folder location they were initially synced too. If I move the playlists out of a folder and then delete that folder the playlists that were in that folder no longer appear. I've had to work around this by creating a new playlist in the location I want it to be in and hand replicating all the settings. Note: if I expand the iPod in the devices lists the folder and playlist contents are displayed correctly, it is just the music app where they are incorrect.
- thankfully, you can now have podcasts in top level playlists on the iPad. But now video podcastss no longer appear at all. Previously, videos would show up in a playlist but the iPad would switch over to the video app to actually play it--and only that one video, you would have to then switch back to the Music app to go to the next video or song in the playlist. Videos now seem to be totally removed from the ipad music app and won't appear. But the ipad Video app has no playlist functionality and you have to manually find and select videos to play. The iPod touch version of the Music App shows videos in playlists just fine though I haven't tried to play any on it yet to see if it now has the 'switchover' problem.
Still looking to see if I can find work arounds to these problems but it looks like any I find are likely to be difficult or annoying.
Edit: to fix the play list order problem on the iPod, I'm renaming my playlists to start with an A1, A2, etc. This makes it slightly more difficult to read the names, but at least my favorite and most frequent lists can now appear first.

No. I didn't do that. It recognizes when the receiver has an iPhone and iOS5.planar1280 said:Question: Do you have to set your iPhone contact to iPHONE in order for the iMessage to be sent over for free. Otherwise would it send it as a normal SMS text?

borghe said:so I've now updated my wife's 4 and our ipad, both this time on her MBP. I am not at all thrilled with the upgrade process.. in particular where it says "Restoring your apps/music/videos" and it actually IS restoring them but gives no indication on the phone whatsoever...... this is what destroyed my 3GS upgrade on my windows box to begin with...
niiiice. Thanx!Fuu said:Click the home button twice to bring it up.

Blue sender bubble = iMessage, green = text. It will also say "Text" or "iMessage" in small letters just above the current message if it happens to differ from the previous one in the conversation history (e.g. if you send 1 text, then 1 iMessage it will say so).planar1280 said:How can i tell if the message has been sent or received as an imessage or text

when it's syncing, you are correct. but at that first "restoring" after the upgrade the sync wheel IS NOT there. because it wasn't there on my 3gs my restore went........ poorly....... but I also didn't have a window there on windows I don't think. On Lion there was a window there saying restoring and again, no sync wheel. but I left my wife's phone alone (not risking her wrath) and the only annoyance in her upgrade was that her screens/organization were slightly jacked.Tunesmith said:Yeah it does, in "Settings > General > iTunes Wi-Fi Sync" It'll show the same progress bar there as it does in iTunes while syncing is going on.

well, if you think about it, if you were already using calendar and/or contacts in the cloud (i.e. exchange, gmail, etc), you had to rely on syncing with itunes across multiple devices (think ipad and iphone). or even just contacts between two phones, etc.33-Hit-Combo said:What's with iCloud messing with basic features? Stuff like calendar, contacts etc. I've enabled them now so they're not longer gimped, but what's the reason for this?
it does.. recheck settings or reinstall. I've gotten all of my notifications from facebook today.Sofo said:Facebook app not giving notifications at all? It worked the day I upgraded, but I've missed them all, today. Everything else works as expected.

this allows calendars and contacts to be synced across multiple devices regardless on if both are connected to that particular cloud service or not.
It's minor, but I'm sure there are cases out there where people who weren't already using cloud services are now happy they finally can.
