iOS 5 & iCloud |OT|

Okay, so now home sharing of videos works fine with iOS 5, but not everything shows up. Not all of the TV shows I ripped to iTunes show up, but the ones that do show up three times when searching on my phone.

For instance, the list repeats (in order) 3 times instead of listing every series I have on there.

When I put an entry into iCal on my iMac it does not sync with my iCould.com calendar.

However, when I am on my iCloud.com calendar and add an entry, it shows up on my iMac calendar no problem.

Same thing goes for Address Book.

I've been fighting with this for 2 hours now. I've deleted and re-added my iCloud account in settings a million times it's just not working anymore.

Can anyone help?

You read why it's sluggish right?

I'm confused. My iPhone 4 backup somehow used 3.3GB of iCloud because I had some 720p videos. I decided to delete them instead of wasting all my iCloud space, will iCloud remove the videos and return my space? Or do I have to manually delete them somehow, and if so how?

Why do I have duplicate events in my iCal?

My iCloud is fucked up.

Well, thats because it syncs with both PC and iCloud. I have the same problem and no idea how to solve it without switching icloud calendar syncing off.

I think you have to go into your iCloud settings on you iPhone 4 and go to the storage and backup section and choose to delete that backup

Two things I've noticed about iOS 5:

1. There are some issues with the Music app. Cover Flow is buggy. I rarely use it but it so happens today was one of the days I did and it crashed (I tried again and it was slow and jittery every time). MOST IMPORTANTLY, there also seems to be some issues with controlling the music via the lock screen. All the buttons take a while to respond.

That's the slowdown problem I told about a few pages ago and you said yours was au contraire :P
But restoring the ipod did nothing, still jittery and it seems like it is buffering the covers every time, no cacheing. And if you scroll to fast it crashes.

There are some complains on the apple support site, so I guess this will be fixed soon.

Siri could just as easily work on the iPhone 4 or iPod Touch 4g

They were just finding ways to make 4S seem different

Apple does this all the time

their excuse for not having MMS on the original was golden when iOS 3.0 came out

antenna something something buy our new iphone (though it was working just fine for jailbreakers)

Some site had a good theory for it: Siri is still a beta and limiting it to 4S phones ensures only a couple million people are hitting the servers instead of 10 million.

I bet we'll see it on the iPad 2 in a software update when the iPad 3 comes out.
Care to make that an avatar bet? Anyone else want to stake their avatars on the likelihood of Apple forgoing planned obsolescence?

Does iCloud backing up over wifi from your iPhone 4 take 2 hours? It does for me for some reason. Strange since backups normally take like 2 minutes on my PC.

WTF, I can't folder the newsstand?

So how can I remove the stocks widget from the drop down box?
It's been discussed ad nauseam that newsstand itself is a folder... Sorry to sound bitchy.

Damn, finally figured out why my iPad wasn't able to sync. Had to de-activate my firewall for iTunes to install, and after it installed and i turned it back on i saw a program called 'ATH.EXE' trying to access the internet. Suspicious as i am about processes i don't know i googled it and saw all kinds of things about THREAT, VIRUS, etc. so i blocked it immediately.

Turned out it was an executable in the Mobile Backup directory of Apple. Allowed access and it's syncing as we speak :/

Macrumors found a way to do it. What you need to do is make a new folder and whilst the animation for making a folder is going on quickly drag newsstand into it and it will be in that folder if you are quick enough. It won't appear on the front of the folder (there will be a gap for it) but it will work.

Nice little bug that!

How often does iCloud for Windows update the fotostream from iCloud? It's not instant, isn't it?
As soon as you put something in the upload directory or download it does it right away pretty much from what I've experimented

Am I the only one, where Safari will close down imediately after opening it up? It only happens when I go from Private mode to Normal mode, then I have to restart the iPad (1).

Anyone else?

I meant the other way around. Taking a pic on the iPhone and transferring it into my 'download' folder in Photostream.

Sorry if this is old but I just realised something. FaceTime doesn't consume contract? Only Wi-Fi connection is required? For some reason I thought that it needed to be a call (which would cost me money) and then required Wi-Fi for the video but it looks like as long as you start and hang up as FaceTime (no call), no additional costs outside of data plan should arise?

Tried googling but it's mostly on other forums and apple support, so I'm almost convinced, but since it'd be an international FaceTime, I want to be careful.

Thanks in advance!

Quite a lot of the time when I open Messages or Whatsapp, the text entry already starts with a space. It's no big deal but it's strange, anyone else have the same problem?

I wish we'd get just a wee bit of additional iCloud storage space per additional device you own. A couple of GBs.

As it is now, I can't possible backup both my iPhone and iPad. I'm going to upgrade sooner or later.

It's all WiFi!

Thanks! Just needed a confirmation. It's silly, been using Skype for as long as I remember, since I was scared of FaceTime (after all, most people on the FaceTime vids first did a call and THEN switched to it).

I guess that's what they're after. I currently only own an iPhone, and I'm at the verge of 1GB of storage. I love iCloud but I wish they upgraded it a bit. If you think about it, 5GB is so little!

It's in the iOS5 firmware, I believe. Just disabled on non-iPhone 4S devices.

Hmm, that's interesting.

I wonder, because it's so reliant on "the cloud." how Apple will react to people using it who aren't on iPhone 4Ss.

Using jail broken software hacks to try and reach Apple servers seems seriously stupid to me.

What's the worst that can happen? Apple aren't going to do anything but try and block it, they're not going to nuke your phone or anything.

I wouldn't be so sure, they can do whatever the want after you agree to that wall of text. This will only be a niche group unlocking Siri, and easily trackable by the looks of it.

Apple could easily just ban you access or shut down your apple ID/itunes sign in, etc. I mean, we've seen it can happen with XBLA and PSN stuff.

The video demonstrates the value of GPU accelerated UI more than anything else. Honestly one of iOS' key strengths over Android imo.
Android has had GPU acceleration of the UI for a while now. It doesn't make a huge difference, unfortunately, and there are still a lot of performance issues even on the latest phones.

Was playing with a friends Galaxy S2 yesterday and noticed that some of the UI scrolling was only working at 30 fps (and yes, the shitty Samsung UI was removed).

Correct.

People mad? I told you guys Siri would be ported over. I give it a week.

lol. You guys are crazy.

How many people will actually do this, though? What are the numbers of users who jailbreak and then hack access to Siri? It's probably a very small number, I wouldn't be surprised if Apple did something.

They'll do nothing. And certainly nothing as rash as you're suggesting.

They won't. It's too legally gray.

Modding the iPhone 4 firmware to enable a feature isn't the same as stealing the software from another firmware and porting it over. So unless Siri isn't actually on the iOS 5 firmware for iPhone 4, I think they'd have a tricky time finding a case against people, seeing as jailbreaking has pretty much been given the a-ok in courts.

Wish they'd put Siri as an optional add-in for the iPhone 4. Charge like $20 for it, I'd buy it!
I wish I could get it on my iPod 4 and iPad 2. They're both the top of the line current models anyway. Seriously.

I notice I can't delete photos from the photo stream folder on my phone, do they only get deleted every 30 days by apple?

Was wondering about this too. Accidentally uploaded more photos than I wanted from iPhoto, and couldn't figure out how to delete them from Photostream. Logging into the iCloud website allows you to reset the stream, but that didn't seem to clear them out either.
