iOS 5 & iCloud |OT|

For those like me who are having problems with the wifi sync never finishing, stuck on the 'waiting for items to copy' screen indefinitely, try deleting any old voice memos that you have on your phone. I had three old ones from before upgrading to iOS 5 and as soon as I deleted them my syncs started working perfectly.

Everything seems back to normal now. One thing that does bug me about iCloud Mail over using Gmail Exchange is that when I read an email on one device, it doesn't update that I've read it on my other devices unless I open the Mail app and wait a few seconds. Hoping that can be changed in the future.

Wow, this really helped! Before I had to go through the hassle of restoring my phone to get rid of this problem.

I've noticed that when I'm playing video on my iPad, in fullscreen mode, occasionally the video playback interface pops up, without me having done anything. It's kinda annoying, and I don't remember it happening before iOS5. Anyone else?

When your idevices back up to iCloud do they only add what's new or reupload everything?

Sorry for a question that's probably already been asked heaps its just it says my next backup will be 1gb and I can't afford for it to do that everyday with my shitty data limit.

Only what's new.

I have no problems with my coverart. Its all great.

Grouping issues, definitely. But thats more of an iTunes in general thing in my experience.

This update didn't fix a damn thing. Shuffle still randomly turns off when connected through bluetooth. Who gives a shit if song information is displayed.

I don't have issues with cover art either, but the grouping issues is definitely something I'm annoyed with. Stuff that used to work before iOS5 no longer is grouped together which is annoying. I don't know if that's iTunes or the music app, but I have to think it's an iOS problem not iTunes.

Whats wrong with the music app? Its awesome.
Sorting by artist should give me an option to view as an alphabetically sorted list. Instead I get a icon view where cover art is the primary visual cue. I have several albums in my iTunes library that were ripped from CDs that don't have cover art. So finding the artist I want is a pain.

That's my biggest beef with it. I would like more intuitive view options. Like it used to have. They fixed one thing that wasn't broken.

Anyone else have an issue with iMessage messages hanging while sending? A lot of the times when I try to send a message it'll start to send, then just hang at the last part. Takes a couple minutes sometimes to send.

The person on the receiving end might not be on wifi or data. It waits for 5 minutes and if it still can't send an iMessage it sends an SMS instead.

how does iCloud and game saves work with multiple devices?

I just bought an iPod touch, so I have an iPod touch and iPad both supporting iOS5, syncing to the same main computer. But each are played by different kids - can I have e.g. one tiny tower save on the iPod, and another on the iPad, and keep them separate but synced to the same computer? Do I need to not have one signed up to iCloud, or game centre or something?

That's weird, I still have the normal artist view in alphabetical order. It's only when I click the "all albums" button at the top that it switches to an alphabetical listing of albums with the cover art. Clicking "all artists" in the top left takes me back to the normal view. I do have cover art for every album, so maybe it's a glitch somewhere in there?

Has anyone else been having problems with the home button or power button clicks not registering all the time while trying to wake the phone from sleep? (I am on iOS5 on the iPhone 4). Sometimes, even when the click registers, it takes 3-4 seconds for the phone to wake up whereas it used to be almost instantaneous before.

In general iOS5 seems a bit slower than iOS4 on the phone.

I agree that it was slower going to iOS5, but the update seems to have sped it up and fixed my battery life.

Yeah, same here. There is no album artwork in the artist view on my device.

^ I notice that the lock sound doesn't play until well after the phone is locked and the screen is off. On my old old iPhone the lock sound would play the second I hit the power button.

Yeah, I was going to say the phone feels super fast all of a sudden after the update.

So I am trying to copy my contacts from my phone, to my address book on my mac. The only information I see says that I need to use iSync.

For some fucking reason, I cannot get my laptop to connect to my iphone through bluetooth. It pairs successfully, but when I try to "Connect to network" I get an error "Bluetooth network is unavailable."

Any suggestions?

:(

Turn on iCloud.

So I don't know what thread would be more appropriate to ask this but:

Why does my iTunes keep producing a pop-up saying 'this copy of iTunes will expire soon' like when I had beta versions of iTunes but when I check for updates it says it is the current version. (10.5.1)

10.5.1 is a beta version.

A USB cable. Or upgrade to Lion.

Syncing with a USB cable does not actually sync contacts to address book. I have no idea where it actually syncs it to. My phone has all my contacts, my computers Address Book is completely empty.

It absolutely should. I did it for years. Check the settings in iTunes.

Had my iphone4 since early this year and my wife just got an iPhone 4s last night. We are now using the same iTunes account for apps and whatnot but are on different iCloud accounts for obvious reasons. Is there a way for me to send my calendar to her phone with her being on a different cloud account? I can't find an email calendar option. Do I need to do it from my computer instead?

How do I get iCloud contacts to my Snow Leopard Address Book?

dunno, works for me I think? Well I actually stopped my iCloud syncing as it seems to be more of a pain than just plugging it into my laptop.

Issues I've had on my 3GS after upgrading to iOS5:

- This probably has something to do with the Cloud, but I now have duplicates of the vast majority of my contacts.

- The message app no longer instantaneously loads (messages) when it's opened; it takes 1-3 seconds for the latest message(s) to appear on the screen. There's often lag when typing a new message right away after doing this.

- The most annoying bug is controlling music through the lock screen; for whatever reason, when moving from song to song, instead of going [cover art -> cover art], it goes: [cover art -> lock screen image -> cover art] every single time. And not in a smooth transition either. It's very erratic.

- For whatever reason, a bunch of my songs are greyed out in the iPod/Music app now. I have no idea why, but I cant' play them now.

I realize some of these issues have to do with my 3GS slowing down compared to the 4/4S, but they're still annoying.

I think I may have found why my album art is missing.
I don't use iTunes as my main music player.
I think that itunes may be trying to grab the album from my itunes library.

When I fix it in my itunes library then go to fix it on my phone, it updates the album art.

Anyone else having bluetooth connectivity issues after the iOS 5.0.1 update?

It just drives me nuts. A bunch of other people are now reporting the problem on Apple's support forums and still no official word from Apple. =|

One of my friend can't even get 3 of his BT headsets to connect to his iPhone 4S anymore neither.

Syncing contacts to/from multiple sources does that (iCloud, Gmail, Mac contacts etc.). The Contacts app will have a button in the top left corner that IIRC says "All", tapping on that lets you pick to only view contacts from a particular source instead of all at once (contacts don't merge even if idential).

I solved that by just syncing to iCloud personally.

How do I sync my contacts from my iPhone to my MacBook Air? I don't want them on the Mac Mini and iPad, so I have turned Contacts syncing off on those. But I have set it to "on" on the iPhone, but can't seem to figure out how to actually get them onto the MacBook Air.

That is my problem. It seems you can get contacts from your computer to your phone , but it doesn't seem to work the other way around. At least not for me. :(
