the goal is to go through a deck of cards. theres a ton of variations on solitaire (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_patience_games)

I appreciate that, but to a person that doesn't get that way of describing games it could give the assumption that it's based on the regular version of solitaire, ie place a red 4 on a black 5 and so on, rather than just utilising a deck of cards. The hit points for health, shields and monsters etc that are tracked couldn't be done with a regular deck, for example.

It's obviously random so there's no way to win every game. Still, they're quick to get through.

This is why people compare it to Solitaire and not something like Free Cell where every game is winnable. It's got some RNG that will get in the way of your win but it's still about whittling down the deck.

Obviously it's not exactly like Solitaire, but it's an easy point of reference to give people an idea of what it's like and where's it's taking concepts for. Just like how it's not really a "dungeon crawler" like some sites are saying. Not to mention the meaning of the word solitaire.

I know nothing about this game and yet I'm super hyped. I'll let Pocket Tactics tell you why

There’s a new game out this week from Mikengreg, the nom de enterprise for indie game dev hearth-throbs Mike Boxleiter and Greg Wohlwend, who together created the endlessly delightful Solipskier and the latter of whom was responsible (to varying degrees) for Hundreds, Ridiculous Fishing, and Threes.

Discover a new world where there’s a lot to see and even more to hear. Help Poco Eco, the curious explorer complete his mission. Your goal is to help Poco and his tribe find their Sounds that they’ve lost by solving the mini puzzles and completing all twelve 3D animated levels. By downloading the game you also get free access to Iamyank’s new LP.

Holy crap. This is already out worldwide!

About to download it and give it a go. It's $2.99 FYI. Hope it's as good as it looks.

Anyone playing Pocket Mine 2 and want to swap friend codes? Really loving the game. The IAP nagging is a little annoying, but I've played for several hours and have never felt the need to buy anything.

Friend code: ngcd5796

Read an article that it's kind of like the MV of 2015. In that it's a somewhat easy, linear puzzle game, not that long, that's less a game and more interactive act. Something you play for the experience rather than a challenge

Haven't started playing yet, but that was kind of my take on what it would be. And that could be good enough for me. :)

I'll wait for some impressions because I'm holding out for Rex Rocket. Dev said on the weekend that it was hopefully coming next week, which means this week. But Pocco Eco is definitely on my wish list.

And how'd everything go with your surgery?

Surgery went fine, but still in a good amount of pain. Gets a little better every day so hopefully it'll do the trick in the long run.

I've been beta testing Rex Rocket and it's great, but the controls can be a little difficult. I mentioned having some issues and the dev gave me some suggestions but still weren't quite clicking with me. Things like shooting down to boost and shooting at angles while moving or jumping are kind of hard for me to pull off, especially when your surrounded by baddies. Could just be me. It's a hard game to begin with.

Otherwise it's excellent.

And they made him a Lord of Cinder. Not for virtue, but for might. Such is a lord, I suppose. But here I ask. Do we have a sodding chance?
Hey guys, I'm wondering something... we have a school project and I'm supposed to take many short clips and put them together. Any (free or very cheap) apps that I could use for this?

Basically, I want to record short footage, edit them together and then put them on my Mac and then upload it to Youtube or such.

Well I disagree with that. It's lacking polish, visually some poor textures get in the way of this beautiful artstyle and there's not really any puzzles. You just press random buttons until you clear the path because there's no way to fail. It might sound harsh but at least it will deflate the hype as this is no Monument Valley.

I hadn't played it yet, so thanks for the impressions. Shame to hear that the gameplay isn't really there. The art style looks so wonderful.

It's definitely enjoyable but the couple of worlds I've played through weren't so great gameplay wise.

Haven't gotten a chance to sit down and play it. Wish I had waited to hear your impressions. Wasn't expecting a Monument Valley masterpiece but it still looked promising.

Hmm.. Well, guess going into it with lower expectations will soften the blow.

But really have to lower expectations on just about every game I play after Ori. ;)

You have an iPhone 6 right? If so you should have iMovie for free on your Apple ID.

Completely forgot about that! Thanks a bunch :)

By the way, does Airdrop work from an iPhone to a Mac-computer? Any specific things I have to activate (except Bluetooth) for it to work?

After playing some of Poco Eco, I'd say it's still worth checking out. The artwork and music alone are fantastic. It may not be as clever as Monument Valley, but lovely nonetheless.

Nintendo developing titles themselves as well.

Yes, that alone is awesome to hear. Gives me hope that it won't just be some freemium tie-ins. Who knows though. Surely they won't be making anything that would be good enough to compete with its DS line.

Wish they were I the same position as Sony is with the Vita (ie., a flop). Then we'd be talking about some more heafty stuff. It'll be interesting to watch.

It seems like both DeNA and Nintendo will develop games. I'm quite sure that DeNA will be doing most of it.

Actually, the Pocket Gamer article seems to think Nintendo would be making the games.

From PG: "Apparently the deal will see Nintendo working on the actual development of the games, while DeNA concentrates on the mobile publishing side of things."

Kind of hope that's the case since Nintendo should do it right.

This sounds great. Pretty exciting stuff. Maybe I'll finally be able to play a Zelda game

We'll see. Even if Nintendo does the development, I still wouldn't be shocked if they do more tie-in type of stuff. Can't see them skewering their flourishing DS sales with amazing mobile games.

Still, I'd be all for some "real" games. Guess time will tell.

It's ashame they are ruling out ports. To me, that would be ideal. Port older Zelda, Mario, etc. games. Make a ton of new money from it while still leaving he doors open for people to buy their own systems for new games with those IPs.

Going to update the OP today. So far games to be added include Five Nights At Freddie's 3, Sid Meier's Starships, rop, and Adventures of Pocco Eco
Any other OP-worthy releases? And any impressions for FNaF and Starships?

That's what I find weird. During the press conference that I watched, Iwata said that development would be split and that revenue would depend on who's creating what. And it made it seems like DeNA would handle most of it given their history on mobile. With Nintendo handling "UI/UX" and trying to find "new business models". I don't know why PG's article says that though.

I don't know. Maybe they got it wrong. I didn't watch the press conference. Of course, my preference would certainly lie with Nintendo developing.

I'd say Card Crawl is worthy of mentioning. And maybe Blokshot?

The Lighthouse Painting, simogo's audio experience has been submitted to iTunes' podcast library and should be out soon.

I'm not familiar with podcasts submission.
How long does it take? (I guess not long as apps).

Trying to understand if 'soon' is today or 'dev's soon' like some weeks. :)

That Nintendo announcement makes me sick to my stomach. Not like this.

Yeah, I was just reading the conflicting opinion pieces on Pocket Gamer about it.

Guess it'll just be a wait and see kind of thing. I'm hoping for good things to come out of it but also know it's all about money so there's reason to be weary as well.

whats bad about this exactly? Seems like great news to me.

I'm sure he's worried about long loved IPs like Mario being bastardized into some craptastic freemium junk. I think - or at least hope - Nintendo has enough pride to never do that.

Too early to judge.

Considering the popularity of freemium games like Puzzle & Dragon, and now the release of P&D: Mario, don't be surprised if you see a freemium version of it on iOS.

But the thought that we could possibly get a new Dr. Mario on iPhone is just too good to pass up!

Updated the OP with new releases. If anyone has impressions for Starships and FNAF3, that would be appreciated

Also added a post directory to the OP so you don't have to burn out your scroll wheel

I highly recommend checking out Rop. It has a tactile feeling to the gameplay and it gets quite challenging. The dev is working on a second level pack which will introduce a new mechanic.

And if that isn't enough, it's from the devs of Joinz

April releases are looking pretty solid

  • A Day in the Woods - April 2nd
  • Power-Up - April 9th
  • Avernum 2 - April 15th
  • Mortal Kombat X - April
  • Tiny Dangerous Dungeons - Early April
  • Does Not Commute - Mid April
  • This War of Mine - Late April/Early May
