Played a bit of Warbits (get it??). At least in controls and presentation, they nailed. Thanks for the code.

Finally, Templar is mine. Going to put a few hours into it tonight

Cool! Let us know what you think. I even created a topic to spread the word to Gaf.

Warbits is the real deal. Played through the first sector, and it's awesome so far. Can't wait to reach missions with fog of war and artillery construction. The presentation is top notch, probably the most polished game I played on iOS since Kingdom Rush, and it's still in beta!

Some early feedback, very minor stuff: it takes a couple of seconds for the defeat box to appear after surrendering via options menu. It's weird because it leaves a window for UI interaction while waiting for the game to end.
Also, unit information UI (the circles around the unit) can get in the way of unloading artillery from transport units. My experience with this was: bringing up the unit info UI by tapping and holding onto an APC, tapping Unload, and then tapping to make the circles around the APC unit disappear, leaving no Unload flags appearing over the adjacent tiles. I had to deselect Unload and then select it again.

I'd like some advice... I happen to have a few extra dollars at the moment and wanted to treat myself. I'm trying to decide if I want a full sized iPad, and iPad Mini, or trade up from my iPhone 6 to a 6s plus.

I would use the 6s plus the most but it's the lowest option on the list because I think it might be better to just wait for a 7 plus at this point.

I have an iPad 2 that is really a family device at this point and nobody uses it because it's so slow. I have a Nexus 7 I use every day, I love the size but it's broken in a couple of annoying ways, like auto-rotation never works.

I am leaning towards the iPad mini 4. It would be mainly for reading, gaming and YouTube. I notice none of the iPads have 3D Touch, is that something to wait for? Is the iPad mini good for reading comics? Is the iPad Mini good for gaming or is the full sized much better? Thanks for the help.

iPad Mini 2 is my baby. It's the perfect size. Small enough to be easily portable, big enough to make playing tactile games and UI heavy games like XCOM comfortable. Also just the right size when you need to hold it like a controller to press virtual controls. A good size for reading ebooks and comics (and I read a lot of comics on it since I got into Image and Vertigo series last year)

I use it every day, take it to campus, when I'm in bed, etc.

My parents have iPads and they just feel too big.

So iPad Mini is the way to go IMO

Yeah, I've really enjoyed my Mini 2. I do have the occasional problem clicking smaller buttons or links on webpages, but most of the games I play don't really have those issues (and I use my Mini 2 primarily as a gaming device).

I'm also very happy with how well the iPad Mini 2 has held up performance-wise. I guess I don't necessarily play all the most graphically intensive games, but everything I do play still looks and runs great.

I always get excited about new tech announcements, but every new iPad that's come out I just look at my Mini 2 and see that it's still great and doesn't need to be upgraded. The only upgrade that would really interest me is a weight reduction (always nice) and a a new design. Maybe it's just my iPad, but the edges around the screen can feel a little sharp (not enough to cut, but not a great feeling either) and have a slight gap between the screen and metal. I'd love a design like the current iPhones where it's very rounded and the screen kinda sticks out a little bit from the metal.

I recently got a good price on an Air 2 and made the shift from Mini 3 (practically a Mini 2) to an Air 2. I am happy I jumped to the bigger screen, and the extra RAM makes a big difference in daily usage. There are times I miss the Mini's smaller form factor, especially when finding space in my work bag, but I prefer using the larger screen right now.

Whatever you do, given that you're not in a "must buy" situation, I would wait for the Apple event on ~Mar 21. Rumour has it that they will announce some of the next iPad models then. Even if you don't want to buy the latest models, the older models will be discontinued / have their prices lowered.

This is one of the reasons why I posted, I haven't been paying attention, thank you.

Actually even for graphically intensive games, I haven't had a game yet that hasn't played well on my Mini 2.

It's really impressive how well it has held up with even the most recent games.

Man, Templar Battleforce is so good. I'm glad I took the plunge. One of the best SRPG's on iOS. I wish they would use a free to try approach so more people could give it a shot.

Sure, it's not as fancy looking as Warhammer Deathwatch, but it's a much tighter, better designed game (imo).

People on Steam love it. It has like 96% positive reviews.

Awesome game!

Hmmmmm.

Hmmmmmmmm.

Back in the days I was too busy with Deathwatch to get another similar game, and I admit I'm now in a more action mood...but your and others endorsements are difficult to resist.
I just found out it's from the same devs of Heroes of Steel....which I loved despite the crude graphical presentation.

Hmmmmmmm.

Will be interesting to see if WarBits holds up against, the new MilaMobile (Battleheart, Zombieville USA) game, since their next endeavor is a Wild West themed Advanced Wars style game mixed with a bit of Fire Emblem called Lost Frontier.

Would suck if one overshadowed the other

Go for it Pitta. You liked Deathwatch so pretty sure you'd enjoy this. Doesn't have the Alien-like atmosphere of Deathwatch but it certainly makes up for it in the gameplay department.

Eheheh thanks for the encouragement but I've yet to complete Lost Socks (still at final boss).

Lost Socks really deserves more attention....it's really superb.
But damn...last boss without hurricane is hard as nails.
Previous levels are a cakewalk in comparison.

Couldn't agree more. One of the most well made games I've played on iOS ever

Really enjoying Warbits so far. Only played the first tutorial area and would probably get my ass kicked in MP, but very well done and, at least from my gameplay, seems bug free and ready for release.

Still spending the bulk of my time with Lost Socks. Haven't touched Clash Royale yet. The mixed opinions on the F2P aspect have me concerned, but I'll eventually give it a shot.

It is starting to get mighty painful to listen to all this Warbits praise. It is sounding like a game I could really get behind so by this point so I just want it to be out asap.

Whoa, Dungeon of the Endless is free (from $4.99). It's a "rogue-like tower defense".

Yes, it's been on my wish list for a while. I remember More_Badass had good things to say about it. Was shocked to see it go free. It's never even been on sale before this.

Wonder it's Apple's free app of the week or something. I also think they just announced a release date for the Xbox One version so that could have something to do with it.

Whoa, indeed. If there ever was a no-brainer, it's this. It's an insane deal for free.

My impressions:
A sci-fi dungeon-crawling, tower-defense, squad-based roguelike that blends aspects of those genres to deliver a challenging and unique experience.

Dungeon of the Endless starts out bad for your team of bounty hunters, assassins, and criminals, as their prison transport vessel is destroyed by the mysterious alien force known as the Endless. And it only gets worse from there, as the escaped survivors find themselves deep underground, in the subterranean corridors of an Endless complex. Alien monstrosities lurk in the dark rooms and halls, waiting to attack your heroes in overwhelming waves. The exit is twelve floors up, past industrial tunnels, dilapidated research facilities, and organic hives.

The easiest way to describe Dungeon of the Endless is to break its gameplay down by its individual elements. Each floor is a procedurally-generated maze, and you guide your team room-by-room, searching for the level exit. You never know what awaits behind the next door. Much-needed resources, a merchant, a new hero to recruit, more ruthless enemies?

While you can't choose your heroes' actions directly, you must still use their skills intelligently to make it out alive. Some wield powerful guns but move slow, while others slice enemies down with blades and spears and run quickly. Special abilities can boost damage and speed, regenerate health, among other useful buffs.

But your team alone isn't strong enough to survive the Endless. Each room is peppered with slots where you can place various modules. These act like the towers in a tower defense game, each with different offensive, defensive, and support capabilities. However, you can only place modules in powered rooms, and that's where the true challenge emerges.

Power is emitted by the Crystal; if it's destroyed, then all hope is lost. Upon finding the level exit, you must transport the Crystal there. In this phase, the cautious room-by-room approach morphs into a desperate escort mission as you designate one person to carry the Crystal. The rest of your team must protect that defenseless hero as relentless waves of enemies endlessly spawn from every un-powered room. You never have enough power to illuminate all the rooms so pre-planning is crucial. Did you place enough modules? Which route will you take, which rooms will you power up? Which hero will guard the rear, which one will rush ahead to guard the carrier?

All of the game's varied elements mesh together at that moment. The cautious dungeon crawling to find the exit, the tower-defense aspect as you build modules for support along your route, and the squad tactics as you lead your team out of the level.

Surviving in Dungeon of the Endless is always thrilling, tense, and challenging, and discovering the synergies between modules and heroes is equally rewarding. A varied array of modifiers adds replay value, including an endless mode, a hardcore mode, and other twists on the core gameplay.

Damn. Would I be pitiful if I played Dungeon of the Endless on "very easy"? Played once on "easy", found the exit and went back for the crystal then all hell broke lose and I was dead 10 second later.

Trust me, it takes a few attempts to get an understanding for the tactics and strategy

When you find the exit, your strategy changes. Once you remove the crystal, you can't power any other rooms; only the ones you activated beforehand stay powered. And enemy spawn from every dark room now

So you need to 1) power up the most effecient route to the exit, 2) use lighted rooms as buffer zones between your route to the exit and dark rooms, to slow down and damage enemies that are headed your way, 3) set up modules to support and protect you on your route, 4) choose who carries the crystal.

I'd usually send my fast guy up ahead to clear rooms while keeping my heavy armed guy escorting the crystal carrier

Just completed Lost Socks and beat the boss.
Damn, that was BRUTAL.
And EPIC.
And AWESOME.

What a game, an absolutely must have imho.
I'll try to unlock last weapon too and get all the stars/crowns....

So good, so so good.

Read about this in the TA forums, but this futuristic shmup, WarPatth 3000, is excellent. Gives me a SkyForce 2014 vibe with gorgeous graphics. It's also very hardcore. One life. Period. (Not sure if you can earn more lives but haven't seen anything).

There's a $.99 to remove adds. Didn't think there was consumable IAPs but just found them on an upgrade page. They are used for upgrades and for unlocking a different helicopter / ship.

Have to play more to see how grindy it is without IAPs but I'd definitely recommend giving it a shot if you're a fan of the genre.

https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/warpath-3000/id1050426938?mt=8

Edit: IF you can survive a level, stars seem to come at a very good clip. I just lost like 1,700 stars because I died. Upgrades, which are just weapon levels are like 1500-5000. A new ship is 5,000.

Not bad at all. But it is HARD IMO.

I finally got a chance to play Lost Socks yesterday and it was glorious. This is easily GotY material. This is (one of) the highest quality game(s) that I have ever seen on mobile. Everything from the theme, art, music, sounds, level design, progression, the unique missions, and the satisfying COMBOs complement each other so well. Gat damn.

Yeah I loved it.
One of the VERY FEW action titles that I thought was outstanding on iOS (where I generally prefer other genres).
Would be awesome on any other platform too.

The action 'combo' I recently played (Dust Elysian Tale and Lost Socks) make me think iOS/touch screen is ready to be consistently awesome with these genres too...I would love other games/ports.

And mind you, Lost Socks is BRUTAL...one of the hardest games I ever played and NOT because of the virtual controls...it's a super old school hardcore game.
Controls are super tight.

Dungeons of the endless is SO good. Played a ton of it on pc and more on iPad. The UI is better on PC but the game is still amazing. It's hard, don't expect to win. I recommended "beating" it once on very easy before moving on to easy.

It's hard.

Did I mention it's hard?

You need to get this game.

Taking the plunge on Templar battleforce even though the graphics look bad.

My issue with DotE was the fact it seems to reset progress when closed / no auto save. Not sure if I was doing something wrong...

Anything interesting to look forward this week?

Mare_Badass...long ago you posted some screenshots about a scifi isometric game I forgot the name (looked like a bluish Crusader No remorse).
Do you remember the name?
Thanks.
