Damn it, getting an Air and running through a mini Treehouse of Horror marathon recently has me thinking about getting that damn Simpsons game again. Must resist....

Football game looks interesting. Going to have to try that.

Should I get Final Fantasy IV or Final Fantasy Tactics? I can't make up my mind. I've never played either.

100% Tactics. IV is pretty good too but tactics is way better IMO. I was first time on each of these games too. IV is pretty good but it shows its age a bit and the DSness of the port is a bit crappy. Tactics is smooth and long and difficult and great fun.

So I downloaded Tiny Death Star and its teetering on the edge of being deleted.
I told it no when prompted for push notifications. It has no presence in either Notification Center or in preferences in general but it's giving me a count bubble that I do not want it. Anyone have a fix?

I have never understood saying yes or no to notifications, iOS always seems to do so anyway no matter what.

I think it just toggles the actual alert box on and off, the red circle is unavoidable...? I think.

Magicka: Wizards is now universal (previously iPad-only). So much stuff to play right now...I think I'll just nab Rayman and save the rest for later. I really want to try Sorcery, but I'm hoping to see the first episode discounted.

That's weird, it should be somewhere in the notification center settings. Maybe it's down in the not included list but with badges still turned on?

Thanks, I was curious about this one.

You can toggle that off with "badge icon", worked for me.

Alright, I'll give it a pass. Sounds like a bug now.

EDIT:
Power cycled my phone and all is right with the world again. The game just wasn't there at all.

https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/quizup/id718421443?ls=1&mt=8

This needs to go to the Featured section IMO. Finally, I've been waiting for a decent trivia game for a loooong time and this is quite fun and fast-paced and overall addictive. The whole game feels really well designed and here connecting to Facebook is worth your while.

I know it's a completely corporate endeavour made to make millions but it feels so decent. IAP are for buying XP boost that in result gives you a boost on leaderboards but at the moment I had no problem becoming top player in my country (which feels great BTW).

What's Magicka like?

It's the damn local notifications (which don't use any data). I don't think there's a system wide setting for turning them off, only for turning push notifications off (which use data).

I'm loving this app, like you I've wanted a decent trivia game. It's super sleek and the rounds only take a minute or two making them perfect for wasting time. Plenty of topics too.

In the game itself, turn off notifications in the game settings (all Nimblebit games work this way).

Grats on releasing the game, looks great!

Why didn't you make it universal though?

Thanks!

As for Football Heroes not being a universal app, we wanted to be under the 100MB cellular limit for iPhone. Our iPad assets are much higher in resolution (and have more frames for animation) and we wanted the flexibility to make the iPad version more tablet-friendly in the future, after initial launch.

The good news is that if you use GameCenter, you can play on your iPhone and iPad no problem. Achievements are shared, as is account and team data. For example, at work, I level up my team on my phone and then go home and play the game on my iPad.

Yeah, the red circle isn't a notification, so turning notifications off will do bugger all to stop it. It's a badge.

Notifications just make your phone make a noise and a box appear, so if you're not getting those then the setting is working exactly as it should.

holy shit is football heroes kinda fun.

punching could be a bit op though. does the spin move have a cooldown? Wonder if a runner can just spam that.

The way the system works is very much a paper-rock mechanic:

- Spinning counters tackles
- Punching counters spinning

So if a runner tries to spam the spin, you can use a perk or punch them in the face to stop them.

Conversely, if a defender is attempting to catch up to you when you have the ball and you're anticipating a tackle, you can spin to counter them. It's super satisfying!

It's a super fun mechanic in mp matches!

Any impressions of Rayman Fiesta Run yet?

I can write up longer impressions if you like, but basically it is the same as Jungle but bigger and better and with worse performance.

Notes:

* It isn't as kid friendly as the first game due to you needing to collect lums to progress.
* There are no IAPs to ruin the experience
* A lot of the levels feel a bit plain but there are a lot more missions this time with more variety (but you are doing the same thing of course). Beating any level 100% gets you a harder version which are often much more fun (although ironically easier to perfect because you have less choice).
* Performance is a lot worse and you will struggle on anything but a recent iphone. Ipad 2+ is ok.

It could do with some more polish, but it is still perhaps the best game on the platform.

QuizUp is fun so far, very stylish and modern feeling quiz game with relevant questions. Recommended if you like this sort of thing, it's all 1 vs 1 realtime reaction quizzes.
Has optional Facebook linking, but also links into Game Center friends/achievements/leaderboards.

I want to like football heros but I just can't get use to the controls. My guys just stop for no reason, won't do what I'm trying to do, or won't select the guy or wrong guy.

I'm playing on a mini. Maybe the iPhone with a smaller screen would be easier?

Special Moves Showcase

Having fun with this one so far, but I noticed I never gotten the Tutorial achievement despite finishing it - is this because I didn't connect to Gamecenter until after finishing it?

Have you tried playing with Pro controls enabled? Might make it easier.

No I'll give that a try now. Hopefully it helps. Thanks.

Yeah, but what if it's Star Command...and actually good?

I dunno...It's one thing to "pretend" to look like an Amiga game from 1992, it's another thing to LOOK like an amiga game from 1992. Dem harsh menu bars. Looks fiddly for an iOS release. Especially after Star Command...Fool me once, shame on me and all that. Sad that probably the most defining consequence of that entire kickstarter is to make people even more cautious of similar games.

Well let's hope that it will be... I really wanted Star Command to be better than it actually was :(

The devs still haven't updated the game with upped game mechanics which for me means that I won't get anything from them in the future. For what it is it shoulda been priced at 99cents really.

I wish rymdkapsel was bit more fleshed out, and I wouldn't care about star command at all

Cautious of supporting projects in general. I think the model the Iesabel chose was pretty neat - a sort of incomplete game, promise for things to come was sold at 1euro and consistently as the game was expanded, the price increased - people liked it and saw potential so they supported it. Early supporters got it for 5th of the price but they possibly contributed to finishing the final product. Win win situation, no?

How are you controlling the game? Are you playing with one finger or two thumbs?

If you're playing with thumbs, I would recommend using one side of the screen for the virtual stick and the other for your swipe gestures/tapping.

Note if you're using two thumbs: you can't switch players if you already have one thumb anchored down. You must release the anchored thumb and then tap the player you want to control.

If you're playing with 1 finger, I can't think of any issues off the top of my head which would cause a player to stop for no reason.

You might also have a control issues if your screen isn't clean. I've had it happen to me a few times where I had too much hand grease on the screen and it wasn't registering any touches. Once I cleaned the screen, the controls were much more responsive.

That's actually a valid bug that's going to be fixed in v1.2. We'll retroactively credit your GC achievement list when you login with the next version.

FYI, v1.2 should be coming later this month with some cool new features and improvements.

Does anybody have Pac-Man here?

One of the screenshots showed a "mode" option, I was curious if Pac-Man Plus was one such option.

Should I get Final Fantasy IV or Final Fantasy Tactics? I can't make up my mind. I've never played either.

If you happen to live in Canada and want to play on iPad, I can sell you a code for Final Fantasy Tactics for half price ($8.99). I purchased the code by mistake a while ago.

PM if interested.
Others are welcome too

Okay, I just got one of those new airpads... Are there any must have classic (Sierra/Lucas) style adventure games for this device?

Try Machinarium, The Silent Age, Finding Teddy, or Gemini Rue.

I'm so hooked on quiz up. I'm a sucker for Trivia. The interface is so clean and there are so many categories to choose from. I have run into quite a few reused questions, but I can't fault them for that.

I agree Quiz Up is amazing, needs to be a challenge based around this game.

Only slightly tangent here but it's so awesome I wanted to share.

This is what I played all night on my favorite adventure platform, iPad, all night in bed with headphones on.

AWESOME EXPERIENCE.

No...there isn't a iOS version...I used Splashtop with the alpha demo and worked like a charm

Who knows...maybe someday it will be a reality, I really hope for it. (I'll play the game on PC for sure nonetheless).

I can't believe something like Quiz Up hasn't been done already on iOS, or if it has that it wasn't a big deal.
