Tomorrow announces new iPad and such. Is what they announce going to be worth grabbing, or should I just get a previous year model? Currently using an iPad 2 for the record.

E: Mostly play boardgames on my iPad now.

Sounds great. I've been using Dolphin for my browser because Safari just sucks all around. Not sure if they updated it with iOS 9. Regardless, going to give this a try.

Edit: So downloaded...is there no way to import bookmarks?
I tend to use Chrome. Is that not considered a good mobile browser?

Nothing as far as I can see about that. I already added the 5 pages I have bookmarks on: PocketGamer, Pixelated Paradise, Twitter, Google and this thread. lol that was easy for me.

And yes they upgraded Safari but dont expect Chrome or Firefox. Just some improvements. Adblock works so much better for me :)

Chrome is okay. I recently was trying a few browsers out and found Dolphin to be the fastest and nicest UI, but it has an occassional crash. On my phone (an HTC One M8), I use CM Browser, but it isn't out on iOS.

Anyway, I'll give Adblock Plus Browser a try.

I honestly think anything is better than Safari, which is sad coming from Apple.

Normally, new iPads are announced at the October event. Expect new iPhones, an Apple TV and maybe an iPad Pro tomorrow (that's just a maybe, personally I don't think so, but even if, it will be the large one you don't want).

Rumours are saying that there's no iPad event this October and no new Air this year. Instead, the iPad pro and the new mini will be announced tomorrow (according to those rumours).

Yeah, this is what I've been reading. I just don't know if I should get an iPad Air or an iPad Mini at this point. I don't need a Pro (because I don't care about the Surface).

Whichever unit will allow me to play me more Warhammer Quest and my board games best is what I want. Screen size is obviously important...So an Air is probably better than a Mini for me.

mini is the perfect size for gaming. if it has the specs of the iPad air 2 gonna be real nice.

For what it's worth I absolutely adore my ipad air 2 and wouldn't want to play on anything smaller. I just love that great screen!

For board games IMHO you can't beat the Air/Air 2.
Wait for the announcement anyway....chances are that the models will be reduced in price (is some stores if not by Apple directly).

Are there any good free to play games on the iPhone that will let me listen to stuff while I play them? I like to listen to podcasts while I play games, but several of the games I've downloaded recently pause what I'm listening to once I start them up.

Not free, but Card Crawl lets you listen to music and podcasts

Rop, which is currently on sale for free

Others on my device: Only One, Cube Koala, Drive Ahead, Happy Wheels

Minecraft got an update for controller support if that's your sort of thing.
Controller support and a whole lot more
• The Nether and all its inhabitants. Fight Ghasts and make friends with Pigmen
• Cross platform play for up to five players between Pocket Edition and Windows 10
• Revamped touch controls, controller support, and a controller mapping screen
• Enhanced Weather effects! Accumulating snow and more
• Ocelots! Try taming one with a fish
• Experience, Anvils, Brewing, and enchantments. Time to up your game, crafter
• Golems. We recommend you approach with caution
• Flower pots. We recommend you fill them with flowers
• Sneaking and sprinting! Express yourself through movement!
• Loads of bug fixes that are too boring to list here
• Lots, lots more!

Just learned that Warhammer 40,000: Regicide is in development for iPad

Yeah, but are they going to put on a 4 hour show instead of just splitting it up like they always do, especially with the new iPad Pro rumoured for release in November? I'm with Gruber on this one, but I guess we'll find out soon enough.

9to5mac are getting more and more concrete details each day and they've posted some new details again today. I'm really excepting the iPad Pro to show up today. Whether that means that we won't have a dedicated ipad event in October or not remains to be seen though.

Yeah, even Gruber changed his stand:

Lot of little birdies out tonight in San Francisco. The consensus is that there’s only going to be one Apple event this fall, and it’s tomorrow. So if there’s an iPad Pro, it’s coming tomorrow, no matter how much or how little sense that makes.

It just seems so stupid to me, but oh well.

Really disappointed if this is the case. I'm still running an iPad 3rd gen (first retina iPad) and was planning to upgrade this year when the Air 3 was released - seems I either go with a near year-old-so-will-be-outdated-quicker Air 2, go with a smaller or larger iPad, or wait another year... hmm :(

Anyone have an iPad mini who owns/owned a "normal" iPad and can comment on the experience of the two?

I haven't watched Apple events before. How game-focused have past events been?

Not much.
There's usually one or two flagship games (I recall Infinity Blade (maybe IB 2) being demoed) and maybe a few other games mentioned or showcased.
Maybe this year there's a few more, but don't expect anything like a Sony, Microsoft or Nintendo E3 conference.

fwiw, what they put in the air 2 last year was pretty beastly compared to other idevices, and it seems the intention was that it would be more than ready for the multitasking/picture in picture stuff they'll put in iOS 9 today/by the end of this year. So it's not like an ipad 3 situation where the hardware will struggle really quickly.

Unless there's some major surprise release tonight, the only thing I'm getting is Devastator

Ditto.

I'm also beta testing two huge games (1.2 and 1.5 GB respectfully) so really struggling with space so kind of hoping there are no big surprises tonight.
