aku:jiki said:Man, this scene moves so ridiculously fast! Feels like I went up to and JB'd 4.0 like last week and now I feel like I have to do 4.2 and already I feel like I have to find all new apps for it.
What's the best Windows jailbreaker for 4.2 on a 3GS right now?
Hell, can someone name a blog I can follow so I can keep up on this stuff without having to ask here? :lol (Preferably one that's only about jailbreak stuff, already have too many general iPhone blogs in my RSS.)
Edit: Oh, random question... If I have unlocked my phone, I really don't want to accept carrier updates, right? Can I make the requests for that stop with a Cydia app maybe?
Eh, let the workers work. I just hope they're not waiting until 4.3 to drop before we get a universal untethered jailbreak. Waiting for 3.1.2 or I forget which was like 6 months of pain.Pctx said:It's almost mid January and no untethered jb. I'm amazed that the crackers are being this gd slow.
I'm on 4.0.1 and I'll have a new phone before I get a new jb.
Also, to the people that saying tethered is fine... Do you happen to use MiWi? That thing requires reboots at random and having to lug around a computer just to re-jailbreak is pointless.

I didn't have much of a choice since mine came with 4.2.1, so I did the tether anyway. Haven't had any problems except for the first few times after installing a few things off Cydia.red shoe paul said:I go on vacation and still no public release for the untether 4.2.1? So stupid, hahah.

Wow. Real classy, guys. The service is free and it costs the people who do it A LOT of time and energy. Code the hacks yourself if the current service isn't good enough for you. It really is as simple as that.Pctx said:It's almost mid January and no untethered jb. I'm amazed that the crackers are being this gd slow.

You make an account for Cydia purchases; I'd say you'll be safe.Cruzader said:Ok so I have my ipod touch 3gs JB and want to buy a cydia app called BTstack GPS. I got a little device called Copilot which is a BT gps device that can be used with said cydia app. Ok so now I was just curious how safe is it to buy from Cydia and let say I update to iOS 4.xx(now 4.1) in the future...will my serial key thing transfer over? Will I be always be able to DL said app in newer iOS updates? and can I redownload if I delete the app without limits?
Only thing holding me back. Really want to buy it to use my ipod as a GPS device.

runs on mine but i haven't put any files on there yet. How is that supposed to work? If this can really play 1080p mkv files then it's time to get the AppleTVMarty Chinn said:Crashes on my iPad 3.2 and my iPhone 4 4.0.

Over SSH or Terminal.Marty Chinn said:The guy who ported XBMC to iOS said to do this:
apt-get install libcurl
But I'm not sure how that works through Cydia? Can anyone guide me in the right direction?

It's playing 720p mkv s perfectly on my device. Now to try out the funky ones with subtitles and then make space for a 1080p file.Marty Chinn said:Supposedly it does play 1080p mkv on Apple TV. I'm thinking of buying one myself now. Cheap HTPC plus I can play Netflix through it.

I've never used XMBC and find the UI odd. How do you scrub through a video or skip to a particular point? The rewind and fastforward buttons work and it only takes a few seconds to buffer after resuming playback
The AppleTV 2 has 8GB of internal storage. It also has a mini USB port that Apple says is just for 'getting updates' but I'm guessing that it might be possible to mount external harddrives through that port.lobdale said:My big question before I run out and buy one to jailbreak and stick XBMC on is how do you actually get the media (say, from a huge external drive) to the Apple TV 2 (which does not support external drives)? Do I need to have a huge network all setup and will that mean media is just streamed to the device anyway? If so I'll probably just stick with my "output HDMI from laptop to TV" approach.
For some reason I thought XBMC would handle full dvd rips (i.e Video_TS and Audio_TS folders). I tried one and it wasn't recognized as a dvd. An mkv with substitles caused XBMC to crash. It's nice to have it on my iPad but I'll keep my money and wait for the Boxee price drop.mf.luder said:I am also interested in this Apple TV + XBMC. Will it blow Boxee out of the water?
Saren is Bad said:Well fuck, the resolution doesn't change on Apple TV so I'm stuck at 480p. Halp

Edit: Actually XBMC will play the individual .vob files hidden in the dvdmedia folder. No subtitles with that though.
Thanks, I'll try that.lobdale said:If it's anything like the PC XBMC, just play the .vob which is the main menu, then operate the disc through that as normal. You can also compile a .iso with the files, and XMBC will recognize that exactly as a DVD disc image.
are you using notified pro? if so, disable your mail notifications for now, they're still working on a bug fix.evil ways said:Not sure if this is considered off topic but the mail app on my 3GS is fucked up. Anytime it checks for new mail, it locks up, screen freezes and about a minute later it reboots.
I haven't installed anything on cydia for many months, and this just started happening randomly yesterday. Happens with both my gmail and hotmail accounts and already tried deleting both accounts and adding them again with no luck.
Anybody else had this problem?
