So, are you still on the family plan though? Or will each phone be charged a separately for minutes?

I was able to actually add both reservations to my cart, and it displays the contract correctly, but it won't let me pay "too many iPhones in your cart"
Still on the Family Plan.

I think they nuked my grandfathered "200 Text Messages for $5" plan, though.

EDIT: I don't know why you can't have both in your cart.

It means you can take it overseas period. CDMA-only phones just won't work at all in many markets. Also, it supports Micro SIM cards, meaning you can swap in a new SIM at a place you're visiting for cheaper calling. (I presume... do they still offer the pay-as-you-go SIMs in Europe?)
Of course.

I was first in my Local AT&T store this morning. I dont know what the number indicates on my reciept but it says I am 117th order. I was hoping that everyone that ordered through AT&T were all getting the same emails. I guess thats not the case..Did anyone else get their email yet?

I can't believe those of you with an iphone 4 are upgrading. It's really not a big upgrade...
I have an iPhone 4, and when iPhone 5 comes out in 2012, most likely it will have an OLED screen. That will be more than enough reason for me to upgrade.

SuperPac said:
People said that about 3G->3GS too, and I think over time that showed itself to be a larger upgrade than originally thought.

I actually didn't upgrade from 3G to 3GS, and the only reason I ultimately did was because my 3G broke. Actually, the only iphone I bought on launch day was the initial iphone. Well, and now the 4S.

DONE!

I don't know why either, but I saved one of them for later... purchased mine, went back, purchased hers.. and it all came out fine.

those of you pre-ordering from Apple:

did you choose to pick it up in store or have it shipped to your home?

I wasn't given an option, sadly. I would have liked to pick it up because I don't know if the shipper will leave it on my door step.

So I managed to reserve a 4S last night, it's an AT&T model but after their web clusterfuck last night I'm still considering a last-minute switch to Verizon. I'm kinda on my last nerve with AT&T but may give them one more chance. Mostly I'm sick of dropped calls, calls going straight to voicemail and generally poor network coverage. On the other hand I think I would miss the data-while-on-a-call function on Verizon and I don't really know if Verizon's coverage would be any better. Plus I'm grandfathered into unlimited data on AT&T. Maybe I should just stick with the evil mega-corporation I know rather than rolling the dice on a new one?

I dunno, I'm torn... any SF/Bay/west coast Verizon iPhone users out there? How do you like your experience? Any AT&T switchers who are happy they switched?

"Reserved" with Rogers in Canada. I'm in position 1801. Which I'm hoping isn't too terrible.
I set my alarm and reserved at 6:03, I'm 94 in line, but I'm wondering if that's for specific models or just the iPhone in general...

Did you order from Apple.com or a carrier site? The way it usually works from Apple is that once it ships you can print out a release form that you sign telling the shipper to leave it on the doorstep (or other nearby location). Or, if someone's home, they can sign for it as well.

Quick question, I ordered from Apple.com, I am using a regular sized sim-card from a 3GS, will the 4S I got from Apple.com include a new micro-sim pre-activated?

I had the same issue on the east coast, and made the decision to stay. You cant beat Unlimited Data...That shit is like 90 bucks on verizon alone.

I guess this whole "reserve" thing is U.S. only? For me in Germany it was just like buying stuff from the itunes store. I already received an textmassage from my bank that Apple received my money.

It's definitely an area by area experience. I was amazed at how much worse the performance of my phone was when I was out that way earlier this year. I'm in Cincinnati, OH at the moment and the AT&T performance here is top notch. Great speeds and coverage. Chicago performance seems good as well. New York is a bit on the pokey side, though. It's very hit or miss.

Although I am an east coaster (NYC/NJ area), my one drawback with Verizon was their customer service, and my bill was just too much for the kind of service I was getting although I'd happily place them above AT&T.

Yup, it comes with a Micro-SIM. Just connect to iTunes when you get it and it'd a couple steps then you're done. No need to switch SIMs.

I sent my girlfriend to pre-order at Best Buy for me since I had to be at work. She got there a little after 11am and the lady there said only one other person pre-ordered a 64gig before her. Here's hoping BB gets more than one!

My bill on Verizon would actually be $15 a month cheaper. I'd have to downgrade from unlimited to 2gb data but I rarely use that much anyway. AT&T wants to charge me $20 a month for an unlimited text plan which I'm barely going to use thanks to iMessage. Verizon has a 250-message plan for $5.

Went to sprint store to look at the GSII in person before preordering the 4S. I was not that impressed with the GSII honestly...Im not sure what I was expecting, anyway pre-ordered a 32 gig white 4S from the sprint site. Itll be my first new phone in 4 fucking years lol.

So I'm preordering on ATT and it says that the iPhone 4S is not compatible with my grandfathered unlimited data plan for iPhone?

WUT? Is this just an error on their part?

the telus store that i preordered from a few days ago called me today to say that they put in the order and i was the first one to order the 64gb white one through the store, so i'll be getting it near/at launch! yay!

The message plan options are so off-putting. I'm seriously considering going with the pay-as-you-go option: According to my bill I only had 45 texts last month, which would work out to $9 versus the $20 for Unlimited. iMessage will push that total lower.

ummm let me know what this is about.. I think I might just pre order. but this would make a big difference

:)

finally got through all the bullshit. ordered from at&t actually. the only downside is that because of the billing for the family plan, the phone is going to be shipped to my parents place instead of mine. white 32gb. now to look for a nice bumper/naked case/barely there case/clear case, and probably a decal for the backside.

Ya the ATT text plans are ridiculous. Its an all or nothing thing with them now. No options for a mid level text package. Even more ridiculous since Sprint includes unlimited texting with their plans and ATT charges $20 a month.

Important Information:
The phone you've chosen is NOT COMPATIBLE with the following feature(s) currently on your account:

Data Unlimited for iPhone

That's the message I get.

Well I finally managed to get Sprint to reset my eligibility but they're telling me I won't be able to pre-order using it for a couple days. Maybe as late as Monday. I'm guessing the phones going to be all sold out by then.

There's no way I'm camping out for a phone on release, so it looks like I'll just have to hope they're making enough to not have to wait a couple months to get one.

which clear case appears to be better?

switcheasy nude - http://www.switcheasy.com/products/NUDE_iPhone4/NUDE_iPhone4.php?color=UltraClear#

iskin claro - http://www.iskin.com/iphone4/claro/

don't really care about the scratches showing up...i do care about bulkiness. i'm leaning towards the claro, but i hope it isnt that thick.

uggghh at plastic covers. They all look like shit.

Get the switcheasy nude black, incase smoke or essential tpe (using this). The full black look is so much better than putting a shit plastic casing on your phone.

The 2012 iPhone will not have an OLED screen. I'd bet on it.

Wow, so the nude cases are just a very thin plastic? I'm getting a while 4s and I typically never get a case and my phones have held up well. However, if this is an unobtrusive quality case, I'll get it.

Wait, so if you buy the iPhone 4S on AT&T they literally will take away your unlimited data? If that's the case Sprint has a new customer

I considered switching, but the slower data speeds of VZN kept me on ATT. I just hope the reception on the 4S is better than my old 3GS...

Being that I hate talking on the phone and I use my phone primarily for data, I choose this route also...

How long does it take to get a confirmation email from the Apple Store? Placed an order like 30 minutes ago.
If it's anything like the receipts I get from iTunes purchases, a couple of weeks!

Have you checked spam filters?

G'DAMN! You'll have to let us know how your conversion works out. Whenever LTE comes into the equation for the iPhone I'll have a much more compelling reason to get away from AT&T...and last night was another good reminder on why they BLOW.

That's not true.

I thought the same thing, but when I continued, Unlimited Data was still an option. They simply changed the name slightly. They didn't take it away.

I'm interested in this too. I like clear cases, but I usually go with non hard plastic cases.

lol congrats!

I still kinda wish you did the 'call to at&t' thing live at tested lol. Hope you enjoy using the phone button on your next iphone ;)

Also for new 4s owners. I've probably spent at least $200 on iphone 4 cases and the ones I always go back to are the hybrid ones that are part silicon part plastic.

This is my current fav.

It's pretty much the otterbox commuter but for $10 and your apple logo is protected as well ;P

And for the ultimate protection, a bumper for men

I went from an AT&T individual plan to a Sprint family one. I think I was forced into unlimited messaging despite picking their lowest or second lowest plan. I feel like that's kind of a waste since I am messaging folks mostly on iDevices.

Also, congrats on the switch. :lol
